After breakfast, we stopped into Chicago Estates Advisors next door. Walking in, the shop is full of color and excitement. There was stuff to look at in every direction. My eyes were looking everywhere. The items were diverse and displayed beautifully. There were several vignettes that created their wares perfectly. I love all of the wine decanters. Unfortunately the pricing was extremely elevated. Although the items were lovely, I just felt the prices were a bit out of line. The owner was there today. She was very friendly and helpful. I wish I could have given her a sale' as I truly believe in small businesses. It is still a fantastic shop of unique items. read more

The best estate auction company! They helped log items and worked with me despite minimal income off the estate.

This review is for the physical location over in Wicker Park, but we did not have the best experience there. I'm giving a couple stars because the store was at least interesting to look at! We visited the shop for the first time a couple weeks ago because they were having a huge sale, as advertised on Facebook Marketplace. Most items were still expensive with the sale, but our main interest was the 75% sale for everything in the basement. There were multiple signs around the shop that stated the entire basement was 75% off. They have a small room in the basement that is all art, framed pieces, vintage ads, etc. and we found this super cool, large ad piece from some Italian shop that shut down in Chicago. The ticket price was $6000, but with the 75% discount it should have been $1500 give or take. We asked the staff to confirm the price, and the owner (I'm assuming she's the owner) unbelievably told us that that item suddenly wasn't part of the sale, added $2000 onto the price making it $8000 total, and moved the item from the basement to the shop upstairs! What kind of business does that??? I've never heard of a "sale" where the price increases just because a customer is interested in it. From that point we knew this wasn't an honest business, even the staff downstairs thought that was a ridiculous move from the owner. This experience was fairly disappointing and we will likely not return, but it was fun to check out the older stuff from various estates. Update: As per the owner's response, the person I interacted with was just an employee. However, unfortunately the statement that there was a hand written tag on the back is false. We searched the entire piece, there was no hand written note - which is why we asked about the piece in the first place. The employee most likely added it during this whole experience. The male employee downstairs even apologized to us because he was aware of what the employee upstairs did and said "that's not right" and that "she (upstairs employee) does this sometimes" but that he didn't have the ability to change the situation, as she (upstairs) decided sales and prices. I respect the offer to honor the price, but I do not wish to support a dishonest business model. Fabricating details of my experience (regardless of whether the female employee is being dishonest or the owner) brings my review to 1 star. read more

Their estate sale in Naperville last week was a shit show. Making the first 10 (then changed to 15) people pay $25 to get in first. You had to spend $500 to get that money credited to your purchase. I will be boycotting any estate sales that require an entry fee. read more

I was very impressed with their marketing and their team during set up and 'day of' helped put my mind at ease. I am sad to write a negative review of this company, because they did a great job with our estate / demo sale itself. The team running the sale were a joy to work with. Everything else around the sale, however, was horrible. The night after the sale ended, someone broke into the building and stole some items that had been sold, but not yet removed. We identified that during the sale, someone switched the settings on some doors to the building, so that they would not lock. Despite this happening during the sale where her "security" was supposed to monitor such things, Deborah blamed us for the break-in, because we were the last to leave the building after our end-of-sale meeting. (We were not present during most of the sale, according to their policies.) So, she refunded the buyer of the stolen items out of our earnings, rather than hers or even a 50/50 split. To add insult to injury, months later, her assistant called me to find out if we had paid the buyer yet for the stolen items. After the sale was over, Deborah offered to sell a some of the items in her store and put some of the other remaining items up for auction. She left with the items for the store, but we told her to hold off on the rest until we knew when the closing date for the building sale would be. When we reached back out about the auction and to follow-up on the items she brought to the store, she then ghosted me for 6 weeks until I said I would hate for this to be the reason for a bad review. We then agreed I could come to the store at my convenience to pick up the items. When I came to pick up the items during their business hours, the store had a closed sign, saying they would return at 2:15pm. It was 2:30, so I knocked on the window. Her assistant walked toward the door giving me a look like I was being rude. When he opened the door he first scolded me saying the sign said they were closed... when I explained who I was and why I was there, he let me in. I then discovered they had been selling some of the items without our permission. Deborah claimed she explained what she was doing over text, so I showed her the text chain where it was explicitly the opposite. We came to an agreement, and she was going to send the money over an app. Before sending it, I asked her to let me know what email address she was using, as this money was supposed to go to a different party than before. She insisted she was sending it to the right place. When it did not arrive, she showed me where she sent it - surprise, surprise - she sent it to the very place I asked her not to send it. read more

I cannot say enough good about Chicago Estate Advisors (CEA) Deborah, the owner, is polite, professional, thorough, fair, honest, and easy to work with. I have had to resolve two estates in the last 5 years. The first one I did myself and it was arduous, painful, confusing, and terribly time-consuming. The second estate was where I called CEA. They did one initial on-site interview where they accessed the belongings and set a date for a sale. They asked that I remove a couple of personal items but they would handle the rest. And they did! They promoted the estate sale, staged everything to look great and sold a ton! Then once the first sale was over my late family member had sooo much stuff they recommended a second sale. CEA marketed to a slightly different group and the result was the second sale went equally well as the first. And the best part was all I had to do is give them access to the property. They literally did the rest. I know resolving an estate whether from the death of a friend/family member or if its just time to sell is a hard and often emotional experience. CEA ownership and staff were all great to work with. They did the job I asked them to do in stellar fashion. Don't even consider calling anyone else. CEA is without question the best. read more

This past weekend I visited a friend in Chicago and had an interesting experience. My friend took me to a store called Chicago Estate Advisors located at 2021 W Division St in Ukrainian Village. This gem had a variety of items from paintings to glassware to furniture displayed beautifully. I was able to purchase various items for my home. Since I flew to Chicago I could only buy packable pieces. The store beautifully displays their wares. When I was there it was very busy because of the art sale. The help was knowledgeable and very helpful. My only regret is I could not buy any big items since I flew. My next trip I will be driving and shopping at the store. read more

After speaking with a couple of estate liquidation companies that simply didn't provide the service I needed, I contacted Chicago Estate Advisors. From my first call with CEA, I knew I had found the business I needed. And now that my estate liquidation is over, I can honestly tell you, I have never been more impressed with a business. This is the best review I've ever given anybody or any business ever & I cannot recommend CEA more highly. From my first call with CEA through the completion of my estate sale, CEA was prompt, honest, fair, kind, efficient & fast. I've never liquidated an estate before & knew nothing about the process. CEA's owner, Deborah Hernandez, explained everything without talking down to me & she happily answered all my questions. She & her small team organized & set up everything in my 3000 sq ft house for sale in about 10 hours. I couldn't have done that in 10 weeks - even if I had help. The sale itself was handled professionally & safely. CEA is alert to the possibility of theft at estate sales & effectively guards against it while simultaneously welcoming & helping potential buyers. Many friends & neighbors who came to the sale provided me with the highest positive feedback. Did I mention I also made much more money than I expected? I did - much more. I must also note that CEA cleaned up & removed trash after the sale, recommended a couple of document shredding companies, & even drove me to my bank so I could safely deposit all the cash I made on the sale. Decent stuff but extremely overpriced even with the "sales" that they routinely have.

After paying $25 up front to get in to an estate sale with only 9 other people, they added 5 more, so the competition went up to 15 people. Really not a cool thing to do to change the rules AFTER the first 10 people had already paid. NOTHING in the house was priced. The majority of the things I was looking for from the photos had been moved and instead of being able to locate them in the house, they had been dumped into a random bin in the garage with probably 50 other bins. I was lucky to find them at all. Staff was making piles of claimed items on each floor by placing papers signs that read "pile" on them - other shoppers were taking things right out of the piles. It was honestly chaos. Then when you go to find out the cost of your items, they are standing there google imaging your items while you wait. Come on. I can't imagine paying to go to another one of their sales unless I see items I really want. Other "free" estate sale companies do a much better job. read more

NEW BUYERS BEWARE- As a very regular customer of estate sales in the Chicago, I was looking forward to attending a sale put on by CEA. I had never been as it seems like this company is a bit on the smaller side. After arriving at the sale, I was met with lackluster customer service and was made to feel a bit like an annoyance. Regardless, the estate seemed to have some items that seemed just ok. I noticed a piece of artwork that was priced a bit high for an estate sale so I inquired about it and was met with the information that it was an original work and would bring a larger amount of money if I were to resell. Since I have been in this business for a while now, I was hesitant to believe the owner and came to understand that her statements were completely false. After taking a closer look at the piece, it was clear it was an utter reproduction and would not even be worth purchasing at the price it was set at. Bottom line, BEWARE OF THIS OWNER WHO DOES NOT KNOW GOOD MERCHANDISE FROM BAD. It is safer to work with more reputable companies that ACTUALLY know what they are selling to people and are honest about it... read more

Here's what I love about CEA: they often hire a security guy who also manages the door. He's organized, helpful and altogether awesome. They also have been selected by some very nice estates to manage sales so there can be some great merch. All the good just ended. Many if not most items aren't priced so you end up being sized up and charged by the whim of whomever happens to write the ticket. While the line of people waiting to pay grows, they'll dial up eBay to get prices and then charge you the high end price, not taking into account what things actually sell for. In case you haven't noticed, CEA, eBay is a national audience of buyers while your shoppers are hyperlocal. If you push back on pricing, they announce, 'We'll take it to our store and sell it there." I enjoy estate sales and admire the hard work that goes into managing them. In a lot of ways, CEA seems to phone it in. read more
