My updated review is based on how many times I've had to get service being a "club member" and not getting what I pay for. Also I've been trying to reach this company all morning, I'm out on hold, then disconnected again. "Curtis" the customer service relations reached out but the last voicemail he left was very short and felt kinda rude. The tech was just out a few weeks ago and there's been many issues since then, that I can't get resolved because they don't answer the phones and the club membership line doesn't exist but I pay for it. Had garage door installed on March 23, 2022. They had to come back on April 8 because the wall 0ad quit working. I bought very good door and opener. Today is April 16 the the garage door failed today on a Saturday and the best they can do is come on Tuesday. The door is not shut....I cannot open it. And I am beyond angry at this situation. For as much as I spent on the door, opener and installation you would think it would be done right the first time. I literally have used the door 5 times. It's a second garage. A1 is the garage service previously used on the house I bought. I figured I'd just continue to use them. Big mistake. They do not disclose prices ahead of time, and the labor fees are outrageous. What a disappointment. I scheduled a new garage door motor installation confirming the model and price twice. The tech showed up and he told me that he hasn't either of the Liftmaster 8155 or 8355 on his truck, but he could sell me the more expensive model. I was ready to sign off and then he added he couldn't warrant the new motor because my springs don't qualify and need to be replaced as well. I pressed him on the warranty and he stated " the warranty is voided" because of the springs. Then he start pushing a new garage door on top of it.....what a scam. I declined the installation and called Loren Vickers overhead doors and they installed the Liftmaster 8355W the next day and included a complimentary overall tune-up. Needless to say I have the Liftmaster warranty. Stay away from A1 Garage doors. read more

If you don't read anything else, just skip to the bottom and call BK Garage Doors first. After having some damage done to our door about a year and a half ago, we started calling around to get prices on a new door. A1 came in at the best price for a mid to high level door. The installation went fine and the tech was very professional and good to work with. Last week, the arm that connects the drive to the actual door broke completely off. It pulled out of the door, shearing off one of the bolts. I'd never noticed till now, but the bracket was simply screwed into the door panel. No reinforcement, no steel. So now there are 4 holes in the door panel through the sheet metal and the insulation exposed in each hole. Makes no sense why it was done this way as we've verified that most new garage doors come with hardware to reinforce that linking bracket. I called A1 assuming they'd take care of it. First up, we're told there is no warranty or coverage for this (even though I'd view it as their error). It would be a $100+ charge to come out and service it, plus parts, time, etc. We're then told it will be over a week to get there as they no longer have anyone in Flagstaff. It's middle of January, snowing, and now I have to manually open and close the door and juggle cars as my wife too short to close the door herself. The last straw was when they called a week later, on the day the repair was supposed to happen. The told us there were some "emergencies" in another town over and they wouldn't make it. They thought they could be there 2-3 days later. We said we didn't want to wait anymore, but no changes. Again, we came to realize there is no one in N. AZ, and they have no help to cover the top half of the state. On a referral, we called BK Garage Doors. They were local, quick, and charged us $100 to install all the steel hardware that was supposed to be on the door in the first place. I should have called them sooner. Jerrod was awesome and informative. Prices were way, way lower than expected. Though it would be cheaper to get a good quality door from Lowe's or Home Depot and have a affordable handyman do it but the price was about the same. All things being equal, I figure why not go with a company that specializes in garage doors and has great reviews. They don't have any "cheap" doors and there was a good selection. Have installation scheduled for next week and will update review then. But for now, everything about the consultation was top notch. read more

This review is late as I had a new garage opener installed almost 2 months ago. D'Aundre was the technician and he showed up on time and was very polite and professional. I had problems with my garage door not staying closed, the door would bounce back up after touching the ground. My house was built in 1984 and I believe the garage door opener was the original. It was pretty quiet and slow and got the job done. D'Aundre did his inspection and told me that the springs were in great condition and asked if I didn't use the garage much. I use it everyday as I do park my car inside but I believe the prior owners didn't use it much and used the garage more as storage. I was willing to buy a new unit for the sake of feeling safe and secure at my home. Since buying my house 18 months ago I have come home a handful of times and the garage was open. :( I knew that I had been lucky that nothing was stolen. I didn't want to test my luck any longer. D'Aundre went through the options of openers, he tuned up the springs and oiled up everything. I ended up getting the mac daddy of garage openers but I felt really great about my purchase. D'Aundre made me feel confident that I was making the right choice. So two months later my garage door is uber quiet - thanks to that tune-up - and I have an awesome new unit that closes after 5 minutes in case I forget to close it myself. With all the bells and whistles. I'm happy with my choice of unit and happy that I decided to go with A1 Garage Doors. They're professional, courteous and just great to work with. A-1 was exceptional. Good customer service. Take note: your home warranty policy MAY NOT cover the actual door, rollers, springs, and cables, but ONLY the motor. These guys offer an 'insurance' policy of their own that could save you money. I signed up for it after calling Fidelity National, my policy, to see what my coverage was. I love the opener but am writing this review because my service technician, Jerrod (Flagstaff) was hands down one of the BEST customer service experiences I've ever had. As a REALTOR choosing a vendor can be tricky - I need someone that is on time, does good work and has reasonable prices. A1 meets all 3 of those needs. I have been using them as my exclusive go-to for garage doors, from new springs to door replacements on new homes or remodel jobs and have always had good service. Had a garage spring break with 2 cars in garage and needed immediate fixing. Was quoted $350-$400 over phone. To their credit, they were able to dispatch someone to relace the spring. However, I was charged twice what any other reputable company would have charged me. $800 later I had a functioning garage door. I was originally scheduled to have my garage door opener replaced between 2 and 4 today. A1 called and asked if I could accommodate their routing and move my appointment to 4-6 today. I agreed, but asked to be sure it would get done and they rescheduled me. Today at 6:05 I got a text that the tech was on his way. No one had shown up by 6:50, so I texted back asking if they were having problems finding it. No response, so I called them at 7PM. They said they would look into it and call me back. Tech called me back at 7:30, saying he was just leaving Flagstaff, I was in Munds Park so I figured he was on his way. He then asked if I could've rescheduled since he was in Prescott! (was he in Flag or Prescott?) I said tomorrow early would work , he said someone would call to reschedule. I got a call back at 7:50, telling me that Wednesday was the earliest they could reschedule! This repair is for a vacation home and I made a special trip to get this fixed. Very frustrating that A1 dropped the ball on this. read more

Our garage door was damaged after someone tried to lift it to break into our house 2 weeks ago. We had Shavers garage come out, it took them 35 or forty minutes and they charged 75.00, they did a great job ! When we returned from camping today, our garage door came off track, because my husband had latched it incorrectly. Called Shavers, but their guys were all busy, so we called A-1. The Tech was on time and called to let us know he was on his way. He looked at it (less damage than 2 weeks ago), said well, it is a hung door, that is 199.00, plus 60.00. Highway robbery ! I googled service for the door on monday. Found this place. When i called. The woman who answered the phone im assuming was having a bad day. She was a little short with me. Easy and quick to get an appointment set up. The following day. The tech called me saying hes running a but late but gave a me a time he should be at my house. He called a little before the scheduled time. So i was pleased to hear that so i could get other things done. When i met up with him. Told him what was wrong with the door. He had all the supplies he need in his truck and ready to work. He got the door fixed in about 30 mins. He noticed an issue with the wheels as well which was an additional 150 bucks. Ouch. But none the less he did a great job. Oiled and lubed the entire door. Its runs amazing now. He gave me the tube of lube he used at no cost. Told me to keep up with the lube every 3 months. He was really nice, friendly and professional. For the entire project, maybe 45 minutes. Definitely recommend this company to anyone. read more

I was so disappointed because I have never been duped in Flagstaff. The tech came out and said he might be able to find the part that needed to be replaced. However, because the garage door was so old, it would be very difficult. I said to him to just replace the opener. He gave me a quote of about $550.00 and I said fine. He then asked me if I get my garage door serviced regularly. I mean, "Who gets something serviced that isn't broken, so I said "no". I do grease it up every few years. So then he says that he will have to get a renter of my house, oh it's a rental, to sign a waiver that if the new garage door doesn't work after a week, they won't fix it because I hadn't had it serviced regularly. At that point, I told him to leave my house. He then said that I would be charged $20. I said "fine", just get out of my house. I had Canyon State come out and they charged me $228.00 to fix the problem and grease up the old door. Awesome Canyon State! Bad A-1!!!!!! read more

Garage door was frozen shut this AM and when I went to open it the opener broke. Called A1 Garage Door Service and made an appointment after I finished work in the evening (the process of making an appointment was very easy and convenient). At first, I thought about just having my old garage door opener (Genie brand) repaired, but then I spoke with the technician, Brandon, and decided to replace it with a more reliable Guardian model. Brandon replaced bearings, rollers, brackets, and even added a spring (had just one which seemed to always make the door imbalanced when opening and closing) so now there are 2 on either side of the center bracket. Despite 16 degree temps this evening in Flagstaff, Brandon thoroughly explained what he was doing and why he was doing it. He told me that he wants to have a highly reliable and effective system in place, so I won't need to have him out there ever again. The DC motor on the Guardian just hums and that's all I hear now (not all of the old creaks & moans). Also, the force on the Guardian can be adjusted, so you have a very smooth up and down motion. Having just completed a month of training in Tempe, and only being his 4th day on the job in northern AZ - Brandon is an outstanding technician! read more

Do not waste your time! The day of my rescheduled appt, I left work early and sat in my car in front of the home that I have as a rental for the tech person to arrive. There was a 2 hour window from 3-5, so at 330 I called to see if everything was going to plan, and to make sure I would not be waiting out in my car any longer than I had to. The customer service tech said everything was in order, the tech was in the area and would be there before 5. At 430 I got a call from the tech that they were 150 miles away and not finished with their job. As a side note I had already been rescheduled to this day the day before, no big deal and not out of the ordinary, it happens, but it added to my overall impression of poor service issues with this company. I called back to Customer Service to complain and a manager contacted me to apologize (he, customer service and the tech were all polite and professional I will say) he asked me to reschedule and said this was not A1's MO. I did and the next week again left work early again, went to the home and waited outside. 46 minutes after the scheduled appt I got a call from Customer Service saying the tech was both sick and behind on his schedule. If I had known that earlier I could have stayed a work and not lost wages. I felt that this company's ability to accurately schedule and communicate with clients was extremely poor, I will be finding another service. read more
