In November of 2025, I took my 2004 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer to A1 Transmission for a service. The service completed was excellent, and in good time. I had an appointment, A1 pulled my vehicle in the bay prior to my scheduled appointment. A1 Transmission had me back on the road while my Transmission continues to shift well. I have over 200,000 miles on it. If you can get past the humorous behavior of the guy's at A1 Transmission, the front desk, you'll be fine. The service completed. Filter and fluid replacement. no Stars... posers mechanics told me I needed a new transmission for $3800 and neglected to reset the TCM. After resetting the TCM and a new Transmission filter my Ford is running clean. Thank God for YouTube because mechanics like A1 are not Blue collar professionals. Took my 93 Ford Aerostar Van to A-1 Service to have the transmission fluid changed and a filter added. Usually with 275000+ miles shops will decline to provide service. The van ran fine for six to eight months and about 10,000 miles further, and then the electrical shorted out. Gave the van away, but the transmission was good. read more

Have gone there for years. In fact they rebuilt my transmission on my Rodeo years ago. Last time I took my Honda in for a regular service (fluids and filter) however I mentioned that is seems to be slipping or weak when shifting. All I got was "it is old" as a reply. Later took the Honda to my usual mechanic and he pointed out the 3 of the motor mounts where broken and the engine would twist a bit when shifting. How did this place not notice that? Once the motor mounts were replaced (all 4 needed to be) the transmission worked very well without any slipping or signs of weakness. Not going back read more

I called and made an appointment to have my transmission serviced. They asked exactly what car I had, the type of gear box, year etc. They say it will be $224 for a service. I say cool and I book an appointment. Day arrives and I drive from South Reno and show up alittle early. When I go to check in they say we don't work on Audi's and we definitely don't work on duel clutch gear boxes and we can't help you. I show them the phone call in my phone and even point out on their booking calendar on their desk has my name and the make and model of my car set for an appointment for the same time I said. Didn't matter they said they won't work on it and that was the end of it. How unprofessional to book an appointment and make me drive across town only to tell me they won't work on it. They have my number, so even if whoever booked me was wrong for booking why didn't they call me to apologize. This company obviously has communication issues and has waisted my time and money. read more

And found another problem that they don't do work on so they put me in contact with another great company (just rear ends) and those guys got my problem fixed in a day. I'm a car guy. Not a shade tree mechanic, or, if I am, I have most of the tools and know how to get most jobs done. I've rebuilt engines, exchanged transmissions and replaced clutches. But, life has gotten a bit too hectic for me to take the time out to replace a clutch in my 4X truck. In other words, I don't trust mechanics! My dad came to A1 for service for his Olds and was pleased with the service. I figured that I would try them based on his experience. Bill, the gentleman who had assisted me, greeted me nicely as soon as I walked in. He asked how he could help and I told him that my truck needs a new clutch and possibly new syncs since it's 212K miles old and it's the original clutch. He asked for the keys and told me to contact him in a couple of hours. He contacted me and told me that the clutch did need changing. I knew that since the release bearing was making noise. I told him, via phone, to go ahead and change out the clutch. He said it would be finished by Tuesday. I left it with him on Saturday and they close at noon, closed on Sunday too. I got a call from Bill on Monday at 5:03 PM. My truck was done. He told me that he did not think that the syncs needed replacing. He felt that they were just varnished. To combat that, he mixed ATF and gear oil for the transmission. I test drove the truck and it performed nicely. In about a month, Bill stated that A1 will change out that mixed gear oil in favor of 100% gear oil, gratis. The cost of the labor and the clutch together was $1,000. But, it's worth it. --------------------------------------- Bottom Line Considering that I don't trust mechanics, I trust A1. I wasn't taken for a ride, the work was done fast, I was treated with respect and I didn't feel like I do when I go to a car dealership. I recommend this place and will be more than satisfied to do business with them. It's not the cheapest place in town, but you get what you pay for. read more

So I went there from a referral from a friend/ co worker and needed to see Andy the owner... I made the appointment to get a diagnostic, I went in there thinking I was having some issues with my transmission because I had a leak which I thought was transmission fluid. 1/2 an hour later Andy comes back to me and "says nope you are good it's just a hose leaking and I'm fixing it now for you and then you will be good to go" so then after not to much longer he comes back, handed me the keys and off I went! Because the reviews were so great, I decided to call and see how much a standard transmission flush would cost for my 2008 Honda Fit. I was quoted $80 over the phone, and at that price, it couldn't be beat, so I dropped my car off first thing on Friday. The staff there was very friendly and they let me know they would call me when my car was done. Since I didn't have an appointment, I expected my car to be there most of the day, but they called me at 1:30 letting me know it was ready to be picked up. When I arrived, they gave me a bill for $135. I didn't feel comfortable bringing up the price with the less friendly man behind the counter, so I paid the bill and left. But the more I thought about it, the more the price difference nagged at me. So I gave them a call to discuss the price. They said that the price difference was likely because the filter needed to be changed but that they would have the person who performed the repairs call me back, but no one did. It's been almost a week with no call back. I'm happy with the work they performed, and I completely understand if the filter needed to be replaced, driving the price up a bit (still making it less than what I was quoted at other places), but I wish the customer service was a little more consistent. I would still recommend this place for honest, fair, affordable services, you might just have to nag them a bit if you have questions post-service! read more

I had a problem with my 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 truck where it wouldn't engage into any gear. I call a couple shops and described the problem. They both wanted to charge me for rebuilding the transmission without even looking at it. I talked to Andy at A-1 he said they'd look at it for free. The clutch is going out in my little car. I shopped several companies for the most affordable and reputable in town. Most quotes came in between $800-$1200. I know nothing about cars but wanted to purchase my own parts. Rich drove my car told me what I needed. I purchased my parts and it is being installed for right around $425.00. I do not have the words to describe the kindness and stellar level of customer service I received. I wish I could give them more than a Yelp review. Okay so first off , I went there with the coupon from the local advertisements that comes out each week... A transmission check for $70... I knew there was something wrong with my transmission , that's why I took it there. So the guys came to me and said oh well we can fix this for $650 it's a belt or gear inside the transmission... there's something that needs to be put in or replaced or something... So they took it apart and test drove it and gave it to me and told me it was fixed and I drove down the road ...same thing same problem.. I said okay, may I have my money back since they didn't fix the problem and they refused. But see they already charged me before giving me the car back, of course and now refused to give me the money back...so I had to go to the Better Business Bureau who wanted a letter from me explaining what happened, and after I wrote them a letter they refused to do anything or take any kind of action or whatever they do, which is nothing as far as I can tell...and they are in bed with the businesses...so don't bother trying to get your money back from them, and don't bother bringing your car there unless you want to give them a lot of money and have them never give your money back He did however say that they would charge me just about $2,300 for a new transmission, which would include the $650 that they already charged me but didn't want to be refund me... if I can give it less than 1 star I would!!! read more

I recently took my diesel truck into A1 on a recommendation by a friend for a transmission issue. The tech (maybe one of the owners?) took my truck for a quick drive (without me) and looked at the transmission fluid. With this limited info he told me that the ONLY fix was to replace my whole transmission at a discounted price of $2500. He said that he could rip the whole thing out and take it apart (the only thing he could do) and it would be the same price to fix it as to replace it. We own a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer. We had a frozen 4wh gear that was causing great concern about spending money for a new/used transmission. As most people know transmissions are very expensive when you don't have the dough. The gentleman we dealt with (I think his name was Albert) told us to leave our car with him and he'd get back to us in about 2 to 3 hours. Well, that is our only mode of transportation, however we were in a bind and needed that car! Needless to say, we got home and not a half-hour later, "Albert" told us to come back as he'd found the problem. We just needed to learn how to shift the proper 4wh gear into place. Thank GOD!
