Archadeck of West Central and Southwest Ohio

    (1 review)

I do not take posting this review lightly. We hired Archadeck of Southwest Ohio (Tim Stephens) to…read morerebuild our deck in September of 2019. I made it clear that the previous deck had slid down the hill due to inadequate support and I wanted to avoid this at all costs. Tim agreed to work with our structural engineer to provide the additional support needed to avoid a repeat of an unstable deck. We provided Tim with signed and sealed engineer drawings of the engineer designed deck supports. In short, these drawing were not followed. The deck that was built doesn't have the additional support specified in the engineer drawings that we spent over $1400 to have drawn up. The workmanship was poor on what was built. The footers were placed below grade, leaving wood supports sitting in mud and water. The support beams are not in contact with the footers. When this was pointed out, they placed a block of wood to bridge the gap. The footers were supposed to be 6 inches, but were installed as 4 inch posts. The footers were not dug to an appropriate depth - leaving it very prone to , once again, falling down the slope. Not only did his contracted employee not follow the plans, but his project foreman didn't confirm that the deck was built according to plans or even appropriately. I have been negotiating with Archadeck's parent company, but Tim has not been willing to do what is necessary (pay for the additional engineering work necessitated by him not following the provided plans and fix according to the engineer's instructions), we have now contacted a lawyer. There is demonstrable dishonesty with Tim Stephens. I have tried for months to fix these issues without involving lawyers, but have been left with no choice. update - still working through the lawyers and now trim pieces of the deck are just falling off - it hasn't been there more than a year. LOOK AT WHAT IS BELOW THE DECK BEFORE SIGNING OFF ON THEIR PROJECTS. DO NOT TRUST TIM STEPHENS TO BE HONEST. He agreed to follow our engineering drawings, in writing, and then, knowingly, did not follow them. We would have never known had we not looked under the deck before signing off on the project - and I think he was counting on us not comparing the engineer drawings to the actual structure. It was deliberate dishonesty and poor quality workmanship.
