my check engine light came on and I took my car into Clifton Heights AAA. They did an overpriced $99 diagnostic that I was never told about. The salesperson called me about 2 hours after having my car to advise me that the tech said I need a new thermostat sensor which would cost me roughly $441 give or take. then they would need to run another test to see if that removes the check engine light. I immediately knew that price was inflated so I clearly told the salesperson do not touch anything on the vehicle until you can assure me that this work will fix the issue. he said he would check with the tech to be certain and call me back. I also asked him for the exact name of the parts bc the price was ridiculous for the service needed. I questioned him about it and this is when I learned about the diagnostic fee. his words, "oh if you subtract the $99 diagnostic that brings parts and labor to about 3 something ". he then apologized for not telling me about the diagnostic charge up front. he then said I'll check with the tech and give you a call back. when he called me back he said and I quote, "your total is $435.41 your car is purring and you can come pick it up. HUH??? what happened to you calling me back to approve the work and quoted price.. HIM: uh um uh I uh.. "BE WARE! these people are just as bad as any other scamming mechanic that's in it for the cash and banking on your ignorance. i'm calling corporate and BBB. I never approved them completing the work. I only paid so I could get my car off their lot bc they charge $25 per day if I fought the issue and had to leave it there. plus I didn't trust them at all. read more

I bought a car with a salvage title, I did the repairs, it passed the enhanced inspection. Bought all the required paper work to AAA to get the reconstruction title, AAA failed to properly submit the paper work, the state rejected what AAA submitted twice now. Not sure why I paid a fee to AAA for this service, since they don't seem to know how to perform this service!! read more

I was visiting Philly on a business trip from out of the state and ran into some unforeseeable car troubles. When I was ready to leave, my car wouldn't start. When I finally was able to jump start it, I noticed other issues which made the car not drive-able. Needless to say I was having a very rough day. Long story short, I had my car towed to the AAA shop in Clifton Heights where I dealt with Jim Welsher and his co-workers. I spoke to him on the phone prior to showing up and he ensured me that even though they are very busy with appointments, they will push me into the schedule and take care of me. I have never had such a great experience at a car mechanic in my life! They were extremely honest, caring and friendly. They worked hard up until 2 minutes before closing so they could get me back on the road. I just wish we had more mechanic shops like this one. Thank you Jim! read more

Lost all respect for the AAA in Clifton Heights, PA. I'm still steamed two months later. Went for an oil change in March and was asked if I wanted them to do a state inspection, I only needed a new wiper blade and one head light was out. Since I didn't have the time to wait that day, I declined. When I returned two months later I was told I would fail state inspection unless I got new shocks! Since my car wasn't riding any different than it had been in March, I couldn't believe that suddenly I needed new shocks! Well long story short, the manager made me feel like an idiot! And she was pretty arrogant about it. Nothing she said to instill confidence in this garage. Additionally, I had been using this facility for several months and if my car was showing signs of a problem, why wouldn't they let me know? I went to another garage for a second opinion and they showed me something very simple to demonstrate that my shocks were ok. However, the Hub Assembly was rusting and could become a safety issue, but was not urgent needing immediate replacement, just in near future. I did get the Hub Assembly changed and the shocks are still fine. I don't know what's going on in AAA, but I don't have the time or money to waste while this manager needs some customer service training. Finally, not to leave out the many other kind and courteous employees working at this location. Just this manager, and since she was in charge, I don't recommend this AAA. read more

First of all, I'm a 30 yr-old female and I'm not actually a AAA member. I got my car registered here when I moved to PA and they were extremely helpful. I ended up also getting my State inspection here at the same time and that's when I was sold on taking my car to AAA for my future auto repairs. The mechanics and desk clerks are so friendly and explain everything to you. Plus, their prices for State inspection and oil changes are very reasonable compared to quotes I received from other places. My fiancé needed a major service on his car and initially took it to the Toyota dealership down the street. He didn't like the service rep he worked with and they couldn't get him the part he needed for several days. So, I suggested he take his car to AAA. They quoted us a lower price for the service ($2,000 vs $2,500 at Toyota) plus the mechanic himself drove to NJ to get the part we needed, worked over-time, and had the car ready for my fiancé early the next morning so he could drive to Boston for his bachelor party. The woman we worked with, Christina I believe, was in contact with us the whole time keeping us updated on the status of his car repair. Highly recommend! read more

The service department of the AAA in Clifton Heights substantially overcharges its customers. I was charged over $1,000 to replace the rear shocks on my vehicle. The price for this work including the parts should have been between $227 and $363 according to the web. I was charged over $700 to install a new starter. According to the web, I should have paid between $389 and $562 complete. As part of that repair, I was charged over $300 for a remanufactured starter. I can go on but I will leave it at that. Take your car somewhere else. I suggest Pepboys. read more

I needed a notary public for my mother, who uses a cane and has a tough time getting around. I went in to inquire about it and told them I had to bring my mom back in but it may take awhile and without asking or hesitation, James, the notary public, grabbed his stuff and came out to the car so my mom didn't have to get out of the car and walk. He was so kind and pleasant and both my mom and I were so appreciative of his kindness, not to mention it was 90 degrees today! I booked a hotel through AAA - I noticed the day before my stay that I hadn't received confirmation from the hotel, so I called and they had no record of the reservation. I called AAA and was assisted by a young man who said he called Hilton Garden Inn and straightened out the issue with them, giving me the new confirmation number. I gave them my card upon arrival for any additional charges, and was charged for both the AAA reservation and another full room charge + parking. I emailed AAA, and was told they opened a help desk ticket to investigate the matter, that it'd take up to 7 business days, they'd be in touch with a resolution and I'd see a reimbursement in my bank account. Nothing for 3 weeks, so I circled back. Nothing. So I called, spoke to a man who asked for all of my records/interactions with AAA and promised to resolve it and follow-up with me. That was two weeks ago, and now he is not responding to my emails or voicemails. This is insane, and was a complete trainwreck from start to finish. 0/10 would never recommend booking a hotel on AAA. read more

In the past I have taken my car to the dealership to get an oil change/inspection, but I became a AAA member and thought I would try it out. I made an appointment. I need synthetic oil- at the dealership $59.99. At AAA $78. At the dealership open communication and updates as the situation changes. At AAA no communication. After 3 hours of waiting in the lobby, during COVID, I walk up to the counter where I learned that my car needed a new battery because they had to jump it in order to get into ,the garage. I have never had an issue with this battery but can also see how it would be possible as the car is 3.5 years old. No big deal... except they didn't tell me till after I had waited 3 hours. Here is why this is relevant: they can't do the inspection because the settings were reset when the battery died. Why did it take 3 hours to complete an oil change when it takes Jiffy Lube 30 minutes? Maybe it's a bad day? Maybe they were overbooked? All I know is that I don't have the time or the patience for a 3-hour oil change when I have an appointment. I also really value communications and being treated with respect. The final annoyance: I turned my car off, waited 30 minutes, and turned it back on with no problem. The battery works just fine. read more

Went here today to do the pre-verification for the PA Read ID. The lady at the front desk tells me "oh that hasn't started yet & we don't do that here". I tell her that I read it on the Penn Dot web site that this started in Sept. 2018. She hands me the Read Id in Pennsylvania brochure. I leave & look at brochure & there on the last page it says "Beginning in September 2018, you can get verified". Knowledgeable people would be a great help at this location. read more

After over 1200.00 for a new fuel pump, now I can't even fill my gas tank up now today is 2nd post repair visit and the shuttle can't pick me even though you dropped me off. You say that when my truck got there it would not start so you didn't know if the engine light was on on but that is way you charged me for the diagnostic. Now I have to bring it back the 3rd time because you have to remove the gas tank again. I would rather you say we made an error during the repair and we need to investigate it but do try and make it like it is a new problem it is related to the work you did you charge dealer prices give dealer swrvice then. read more

Terrible experience. As a AAA member, I decided this was the best place to get my replacement tire. Made an appointment and drove 30 min in the rain to the location, to be told the technician "thought" the appointment was for tomorrow. Too busy to "fit us in". Woman at the counter gave a weak apology, didn't seem to care that we walked out without rescheduling. Too bad I just renewed my AAA membership, since they have so little regard for their members. read more

I sent my 2007 CTS there for inspection and was told it needed an anti freeze overhaul. Now my car is in the Cadillac dealer with many problems. Seems whoever did the job flushed the antifreeze all over the engine causing severe elecrtical problems to some sensors. Now Cadillac tells me it was not due for this and was totally not needed.. I have done my car registration here after moving in PA, they charged me for a year but registration issued only for 11 months, secondly: gave appointment on 9th day from registration but at the eod, called me apologized that inspection can't be done on that day and asked me to drop Car after two days-hell. I drive an old car. My car is 10-years old. It's paid-in-full and it's all I can afford at the moment. I love my car and it operates reasonably well. I've NEVER had any major problems. My car has never stalled on the highway, or on the side of the road. I'VE BEEN VERY LUCKY. I am neither embarrassed nor ashamed that I drive an old car. During my last visit to the Clifton Heights AAA Auto Club Midatlantic, the gentleman at the auto service desk called my car...VINTAGE. Since when is a 10-year-old car considered VINTAGE??? Then I was to receive a call that following Monday with a estimate for job that needed to be done . Now 10 days later and 5 phone calls I'm still waiting. Without hesitation, and with utmost authority, the staff member who took the call confidently replied "yes". Do I really need to continue with the remainder of this review? What do you suppose I find when I drive all the way over there to renew my DL on Friday, the day after Thanksgiving? The place was open, but the DL Center was CLOSED. IDIOTS. And as if being an incompetent numb-skull isn't enough, the staff in attendance ostensibly had a combined IQ of 50, and a LOWER EQ. NO apology, no explanation...the only thing the barely human desk clerk could mutter was "...oh...come back tomorrow...they'll be open". Dickheads. The first time I had to wait for my car to be fixed, with my two kids, they had an area to entertain them, which takes some doing, and were quick with the service and kept me updated on the time frame. This review is about the insurance dept. Last week my family needed to take care of 3 different transactions. Being misinformed by the AAA information line, we arrived here on a Sunday and found out we couldn't be helped. But that wasn't the case at all. The manager persuaded a wonderful employee named Alice, who wasn't even working that day, to help us. It took her 2 1/2 hours to complete all the business we needed to because many steps were involved. She was professional, gracious, thorough, and extremely helpful. She needed to contact different agents, deal with a state system that was down, as well as an unreliable fax machine. I would highly recommend the people at this office. They were friendly and dedicated employees from our initial greeting, especially Alice. read more

More than once they have gone out of their way to assist me with, and reduce!, my insurance premium. Five stars December 20, 2013 to Decmebr 31, 2013. Repair work took eleven days but my vehicle ran well until Janury 11, 2014. When car was towed back for warranty work problrms develpoed with the Service Manager. My confidence level changed. significanly in less a month. New work was deemed necessary. No written estimate was prepared. Only a verbal price quote of $400.00 was provided by the Service Manger. He could not guarantee that installing this part (wiring harness) would return the vehicle operating. The completed repair from December 2013 has a current 24 month/24,000 kilw warranty whihc my membership provides that is not being honored. read more

AAA responded very quickly and provided multiple follow up and eta phone calls. I have been to this AAA location several times in the last year for automotive care. I have been very impressed each time. The 2 women Kristina and Stephanie who work the desk are extremely helpful, nice and knowledgeable. They have gone above and beyond to help me. I cannot sing them enough praises! And when I have brought my car here to be worked on, the mechanics have always been very kind and willing to explain my car issues to me. I find their prices to be reasonable. I also like that they have a really nice waiting area with tv, free internet, computers, and drinks. It is nice to not have to wait in a freezing foyer like I've done at other mechanic places. Also, they offer a complimentary shuttle back to your house while your car is getting worked on. That is really nice for me since my husband and I only have 1 car and if it is in the shop overnight, then I am usually stuck. Overall, I recommend this place 100%! I refer everyone I know here! I received an offer for the roadside assistance and decided to go ahead and get it since all of our kids drive. My wife has used the service a couple of times, once for a dead battery and once for a flat tire. Both times, the same technician came and was here within the hour stated. I really like the fact that we can track our service technician on our phones. Oct. 19th, our oldest son totalled our car coming home from work. We carry full coverage through AAA Mid-Atlantic. My wife started the claim before our son made it home. Bright and early the next morning, they had already arranged for a rental car for us and the rental company came and picked us up. The second day after the accident, they picked our car up and took it to their salvage yard to do the assessment. A lot of people think they should get replacement value of their vehicle when ALL insurance companies do ACTUAL CASH VALUE (what your car would sell for in your geographical area pre-accident). My wife did her homework in regards to our vehicle. The vehicle was received in their salvage yard on a Friday. By Tuesday, my wife was on the phone with the total loss adjuster. We have read that many people couldn't get in touch with the adjusters. We absolutely did not have that problem. That Tuesday afternoon, the adjuster called my wife and did a quick run down of the vehicle, which was in really good condition pre-accident. The numbers the adjuster ran by my wife were right in line with what my wife had figured out for our area. It completely paid off our car. AAA Mid-Atlantic had the check to our finance company within a couple of days and the finance company was able to send a letter of satisfaction to the finance department of the dealership we went to. The young lady driving the other vehicle was also promptly taken care of with a rental car. The day after the accident, she was a bit stiff and went to the e.r. to be checked out. AAA took care of the bill from that. They also took care of her car. On the 10th day, we were getting the keys to our brand new car and driving it home. From start to finish, it only took 10 days. The adjusters were in constant contact with us and they were very nice. We were never made to feel like we were beneath them, even though my son was at fault. The first thing we heard when we filed the claim was "Was everyone ok?" AAA really came through when we needed them with all our coverages. Oh and did I mention that the rental car was REALLY nice!
