Ask what the stones are; lab-created stones are not separately labeled, and the sterling case had a couple of CZ's, though the jeweler was happy to tell us when we asked. He offers several lab-created gems in sterling, and there are a lot of white sapphires instead of diamonds, so many pieces are quite affordable - a sapphire bracelet I looked at was either set in stainless or at least the catch was; I have not seen that before. (One stone was chipped and the box he put it in actually had the padding upside down, so take a close look if you're gifting.) There are some very interesting designs, and several of the lab emeralds are gorgeous. If you want something showy at a reasonable price point, you should take a look.
