WOW! This place was so incredible! Quite the spectacle and very nice to view. We were deeply enthralled with the many sculptures present here (both inside and outside). We unfortunately did not purchase anything, but it was very enjoyable to simply view the works of art and the plethora of antiques there. Will be returning for another viewing! read more

A different perspective If you enjoy strange or bizarre things, It just can't get any cooler than Aardvark Antiques. The owner has been called an urban archaeologist. That's an euphemism for junk collector. But incredibly cool junk. Where the hell does he find this stuff. Every time I go he has some new and incredibly bizarre things. Gigantic gates that look like they came off a castle. Huge urns that you could plant a Sequoia in. I have my eye on a giant 8 foot gorilla sculpture. I'll face it toward my neighbors yard. I bet that would shut up his barking dog. read more

This is one of the best antique places I have ever been in. Unfortunately it is also the most expensive. Truly feels like you're walking through a museum, with the exception of everything is for sale...at a price. The furniture alone, breathtaking. The staff is super friendly. My only regret is not bringing enough money with me or a car with enough room. We love it! read more

Beware. This business guaranteed they were going to buy an item I had for sale because they wanted to sell it in their shop, so I told everyone else who was interested it was sold. Then they just stopped responding to me when I asked a few times when they would be arriving to pay, and pickup the item. They didn't have the decency to at least reply, and say they weren't coming after all. That's incredibly rude, and unprofessional. read more

Pretty cool place - not traditional if you're an antique store comber. The place is big, first of all - you'll need a solid hour to wander just through the inside. Then there's an entire outdoor area that I didn't even get to because it was raining (thanks, tropical storm Danny). There are amazing, unique, fabulous pieces here. Intricate tables, mantlepieces, stained glass. Don't come if you're looking to pick up something small however - they do have some, but it seems they're more interested in the big pieces. I saw items in the $8500-$14,000 range, to give you some perspective. They have less expensive stuff, mind you - but the furniture appropriate to the golden age of Newport is pricey now. Also, some of the things they have there are actually from that period and legit. In addition to the antiques, there are random pieces of NOT antique stuff from China. Teak tables, chairs, and some sort of dragon statue originally destined for a Chinese temple. What are these things doing here? I couldn't figure it out. They were nice, but seemed out of place. Overall a great place to stop and gaze, browse, and drool. I'll be going back every few weeks from now on. read more

This is one wild menagerie! I'm no antique enthusiast but I do enjoy seeing cool stuff, old or otherwise. I loved this place. My wife and I were heading into Newport and she indicated she wanted to check this place out. I pulled into the yard and parked in their somewhat cramped but appreciated lot. Just walking around outside could have been enough. I can only imagine the mansions or locations that would have had some of the statues and fountains they have on display. Almost mind boggling. Then we went inside. I felt like we rushed through what we could have spent hours looking at. Room after room of things that I'd maybe seen in movies or didn't know existed. If it's old, unusual, or eccentric they probably have at least two. I would come back if I hit the lottery and wanted a unique conversation piece... read more

Coolest place eva'! I drive by Aardvark Antiques every time I cross the Newport bridge. I was always curious, but way too busy to stop. I finally made time this weekend. What a menagerie! I have never seen such a huge collection of outdoor reclaimed statuary in one place! It caused me to have irrational thoughts about where I could put a giant iron lion in my East Side yard. The good thing is that they do have smaller, more practical sized objects that I could find the perfect place for. I just wish I was more savvy about antiques, I had no idea if I was getting a deal or being taken for a ride. Still, got something unique for less than $100 for my yard and supported an independent business, so I am not losing sleep over it. I plan on stopping here again, before leaving the island! read more

This place is amazing. It is full of architectural artifacts from old churches and buildings. I have never seen so many huge stained glass windows in one shop. There were hundreds of chandeliers and lanterns of every shape and size. They seem to specialize in bronze figures. I saw a family of almost life size elephants that double as fountains with water spraying out of their trunks. I'd love to take them home but my yard is big enough!!All of this is not for the average person to purchase. They price tags were in the tens of thousands. You would find things like this outside of big hotels or office buildings. Nothing for me to buy but a nice way to spend some time. It was like a museum but a lot more crowded. Different, interesting. Nothing for the average home buyer. Think cranes to get anything into your yard. I think his customer base must be hotels, Las Vegas or Miami style, not New England. There's no doubt that ARDVARK has very cool stuff. But once you give them your money, the trouble begins! I purchased a fountain from the owner at the Newport Flower Show. On the day of delivery, they came 90 minutes late - no phone call. The delivery guys couldn't get the waterflow right. Water was gushing out. They said they'd come back with a regulator. To shorten the story, the owner's son Jay was due to fix it 2 days ago. He didn't show up, didn't call, and hasn't returned my calls. Nor has anyone gotten back! Now I have an $800 fountain that doesn't work, and no communication from Aardvark. I feel cheated!!!! Beware. read more
