Anne dug through a bunch of prints to find a sugar maple wood-block print from 1855ish for me since there was no maple included with the collection of North American trees on display, and didn't seem to mind when I left with a different print entirely. Ann Hall is the finest antique print dealer in the USA. I've been buying from her for over 30 years! I love her shop on Bowen's Wharf -- now I don't have to locate her at antique shows all over the country -- and I make it a point to travel from Ohio to see her inventory at least once a year. There is NO ONE more knowledgeable about print art than she and husband, Mark. They know the age, history, and artistic technique behind every print they sell. They have lower priced prints (including wonderful maps) for the casual art lover and the best of the best for the collector. They are delightful, wonderful, and welcoming to all!!! woman there had unkind vibes. my two friends were discussing a map between themselves and the woman said "we're not really a shop about research" and as I was looking at some really interesting prints I took my phone out to write the name of one of the artists in my notes, the woman said "we have a phone area" which is fine I told her that I wasn't taking a photo or video but she said "we're a shop about history" which was a completely unnecessary comment and contradicted the comment she made earlier. All three of us did not feel welcome due to the weird superiority comments. read more

I have no interest in antiques or maps and this was one of the coolest places I've ever seen in my life. Everyone should check it out. Run by a lovely couple who are extremely knowledgeable about everything in their collection. They were extremely friendly, kind, and happy to share their knowledge. I love Ann Hall's Antique Print gallery. I live in Seattle and the two or three times a year I visit Rhode Island I always stop in. In June this year I bought a pair of animal prints ( an elephant and a tiger) that are beautifully matted and framed. Ann shipped them to me, taking extra effort to wrap and protect them. On the back of each one, in a plastic sleeve, she writes about the print, how it was made, what materials were used and a bio of the artist who drew it. I stumbled across Anne Hall's booth at the Brimfield Antique Show, and I am so glad I did. We just moved into a renovated 1880s farmhouse, and we went to Brimfield to find some unique era-specific wall hangings to furnish it. These prints were JUST the thing. All the prints are of exceptional quality, and both Anne and Mark were incredibly helpful in helping me find prints of different subject matters. All the prints are now hanging in our breakfast nook, and they make me so happy to see every day. Can't wait to visit their new store next time I'm in Newport. read more

I was visiting Newport for the day and was intrigued by the name - Anne Hall Antique Prints - Antique Prints and Old Maps Gallery. It's up two flights of stairs - you have to look a bit for the entrance but there is a big sign up on the outside of the building on the second level. I was very glad I found it! The antique prints are absolutely stunning! The owner was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. She described how the prints were made. Many were of birds, plants and insects. The detail is amazing, the colors spectacular! Many are from the 1700's through 1800's. The maps are also amazing. I was looking for maps of Michigan, where I grew up. The owner quickly showed me many maps of Michigan, some taken from larger books, but available as a single page, from many different eras. This place is a true treasure - I highly recommend a visit! read more
