On Sunday, Sept 27, I was visiting Newport for the weekend with my family…read more We were shopping on Thames Street and happened upon a quaint little shop with very eclectic artisan crafts. We spoke with the owner who was very nice, friendly, and engaging. I ended up purchasing a hand carved and painted wooden wall decoration made by "Joe." I enjoyed shopping there. I'm glad I stopped in and got a chance to purchase a unique souvenir and meet a very pleasant lady.

The worst, most dishonest experience we ever had. We purchased an antique frame with a painting,…read moreand the frame needed a little bit of repair. The person who said she owned the place, Deborah, offered to repair the frame so long as we left the purchase price. We gave her $200, and she said she would call us in a week or two to let us know we could pick it up. Not getting a call, we called her, and she said she had been sick or something and would get right to it. We called again a couple of weeks later, and we got the same story. Then, we called again and she told us that she "forgot" we had purchased it and sold it to someone else (imagine that !!), and that she would immediately refund us. We awaited the check, and it turned out to be the proverbial "check is in the mail." We called (when she picked up it was "oh, I'm sorry, I forgot, I'll get it out right away"), we wrote, we even had a lawyer send her a certified letter. Bottom line - we got stiffed, never saw a penny in refund. Run for your life from this "business." We wonder how many others she sold it to . . . at least now we know what "friendly gifts" really means. Gifts from us!
