Aaron changed my life. He is one of the greatest people I have ever met in my life. Sometimes I felt like I over-explained myself to him, but he always had a way of calming me down. One thing I really liked is that he had experienced the pain of being with a borderline personality disordered person himself, but really seemed to have healed and was really great at his own self work. He always offered me tea or water when I got there, & gave me tissues when I needed to cry, which was very much needed & appreciated. Sometimes the little things make all the difference in the world. He was able to empathize as well as encourage me to think rationally about so many situations. A master at breaking things down, he is truly the best of the best. I've been seeing Aaron for over 3 years at this point, and it has been the best thing that I have ever done for myself. I've seen so many therapists and psychiatrists throughout my life, and Aaron has helped me more than the rest of them combined. My quality of life has gotten better than I ever thought it could have ever gotten. COVID was an awful time for almost everyone, but I feel so incredibly lucky that I was able to work with Aaron during the hard times. I've never had a more consistent positive experience during the rough patches of life. Looking back at my life before I started seeing Aaron makes me shudder; I can't stress enough how much better my life has gotten through my work with him. We had a first session about a month ago. He said that we could work with him. I contacted him to schedule a session, this is his response "I'm sorry but my practice is become full since I last met with you two. I will not be accepting  any clients until the summer. Good luck in your search. Warm regards, Aaron" He didn't give us any full assessment (he gave us short assessment in the first session but he made it very clear that it was not full assessment) or instruction of how often we should schedule to meet him. Im a self admittedly picky person, and being brand new to Portland, I figured I'd naturally go through several therapists before finding the best fit for me. I was so wrong! Within 90 seconds of meeting Aaron, I knew there was an impalpable connection and vibe that I immediately gravitated toward. He allows me to share thoughts that can be critical and harsh. He doesn't sit with a notebook and take "notes" on what I'm saying; rather, he is intently listening and very focused on talking about and solving what I want to discuss. I've never felt like he 'wasn't listening' or that he 'didnt get it.' He doesn't force me in any particular direction either- instead, he has this really incredible way of making ME answer my own questions. I start off asking him to please tell me what I should do in a given situation, and while I sometimes just want him to give me the "answer," he says just enough until I realize that I just answered the question I was begging him for an answer for myself! He picks out strengths quickly, and I really believe him when he speaks. He is also refreshingly realistic- he knows life is tough and expensive and it can suck and he totally gets that. He relates and almost grieves with you as you admit defeat; he reminds you that healing is really painful without sugar coating; and he emphasizes that no matter how perceptive he may be, the future is an uncertainty we must all surrender to. I especially love how he doesn't try a technique or speak to me in a way he might speak to his next client- I can tell he really custom tailors each session in a natural way. He knew immediately what type of approach would work for me- and that is one that requires blunt honesty and a level of reassurance. I have even told him that giving me a yes or no answer will not offend me- and he has taken that and used it to help me. I have told him of job stresses, family issues, traumas in my life, my habits I wish to break, my addictions that have nearly ruined my life and of tragedies in my life with relationships that I just can't piece together myself. He doesn't tell me whether I will end up with a certain person in my life, because he is smart enough to acknowledge he simply doesn't know. Aaron has helped me understand grief and healing, even though those subjects are not ones I enjoy talking about. He knows they are likely the core root of a lot of my negative choices and behaviors, and so he brings up the grieving process cautiously because he knows I need it. I have ferociously resisted to him the idea of "moving on," and I have told him with conviction that I refuse to accept certain losses and for that reason, I will not grieve a loss I don't want. He accepts that. However, he still will remind me it's going to happen regardless. It's something I can't fight. Although he may disagree, I truly believe that he knows me and what is best for me more than I do myself. Another key factor is while he is calm and mellow, he is quick witted, charismatic and has a sense of humor. I often bring cynicism to my sessions and I often make a joke out of certain predicaments I am in, and instead of maintaining a straight face like a robot, he lets out the perfect amount of laughter that lets me know that not only does he understand me, but it's an acknowledgment that while we all want to live our best life, it's okay to not take yourself too seriously. Aaron checks in on me and emails me, and encourages me to email him or call him if I need to. I've shared quotes and songs and I've emailed him with questions, and I always can't wait for his feedback. When I leave his office, I truly cannot wait until I go back. Aaron has an uncanny way of making me realize that my job, relationship and depression will all sort it's way out. Anyone can say that, but when Aaron says it, I actually believe it. What is most intriguing to me is that he possesses this gift that comes so natural to him that I don't even think he realizes just HOW impactful he is. Because he is simply being himself, I sometimes believe he doesn't realize the extent of what he is even doing for me emotionally. For him, he may think he is just helping me sort out some issues, but for me, he's become this pillar of hope and inspiration and calmness. He is incredibly humble about his unique ability to create comfort just by listening, and because he really caters to my specific personality and my specific issues at hand, it's always a very obvious customized experience. Nothing is repetitive or routine or generic at all. I highly recommend Aaron no matter what age and regardless of your circumstances. To have Aaron in my weekly life is something I am eternally grateful for and I cannot stress enough to reach out to him if you simply want to talk to someone. You can thank me later :) read more

I spent a lot of time holding on to all the pieces without really knowing what to do with them. Working with Aaron has put me on the path to putting them together. From day one I felt incredibly comfortable, deepening my desire to continue working with him. I've been seeing Aaron for about 3 years now and to say he's changed my life would be a bit of an understatement. I carry his support, insights and understanding with me everywhere I go. The level of self awareness I've been able to gain from our work is invaluable. From a more logistical standpoint, Aaron has always been able to accommodate my shifting schedule and needs. Aaron has been the first psychotherapist who has transformed my approach to relationships in a deep and genuine way.  His approach is such that I felt truly heard and seen, and safe to explore the underlying patterns in my relationships. There's an underlying goodness and trustworthiness about him which I really appreciate and made me feel really comfortable.  Plus his extensive experience really comes through in the way that he's able to have understanding and find resolution in whatever I put out there.  He has a mixture of both intelligence and intuition, which makes him very effective in communicating his insights and his ability to perceive the emotions beneath the issues. As a result I was able to tap into my own insights about how I could improve my relationships, by seeing things in a new way with more sensitivity and compassion toward myself and others.  I was able to regain a more trusting and connected way of being in the world.  This was a huge path toward healing from stress and disconnection in relationships I was able to work through some of my most difficult emotions.  Aaron created a safe space for me to heal from deeply repressed emotions, and as a result, I was able to move forward again.  I highly recommend Aaron as a psychotherapist. read more

Aaron Jones is a therapist in the best sense of the word. He helped me through some very difficult times and I'm eternally indebted to him for the insight and understanding he wrought. Aaron is a fantastic therapist in every sense of the word. Upon sitting with him, I was immediately struck by how comfortable I felt with his unconditional presence. Aaron has a kind and calming energy about him and I definitely get the feeling that he's listening deeply. I am impressed by his questions, they go to the heart of issues. This review is long overdue. Aaron is an amazing psychotherapist. He was highly recommended by a close friend who had glowing reviews about his work with her and her husband during a difficult time in their relationship. I sought out for Aaron to help my partner and I learn to communicate in a kind and loving way. Its difficult sometimes to get caught up in the patterns we develop with our partners. We found ourselves in a point in our relationship where we stopped listening and hearing what each other wanted. Aaron was great, he offered a safe space where we were able to each talk freely about the challenges were having and offered helpful, unbiased guidance on the tools we could each use to take our communication to a new and positive level. When I met Aaron I was having a hard time. Life was scary and I was in a jam with my living situation. Long line of things people can get caught up in that can become detrimental to our mental health and spiritual well being. Aaron listened and asked the right questions that helped me find a solution in myself with techniques to focus on that kept my awareness centered and open to better possibilities. Simple yet out of the box in just the right way that I needed, he has a worldly view and is very interesting. I found his gift is highly intuitive and understanding.
