But recently, I'm hearing from the 'big tree' companies, "Sorry, we don't service Center City anymore". So thank God for small businesses like Santos! He responded to my text within hours, came and looked at the tree the next day, and gave me an estimate on the spot. Based on past experience, I really was expecting the estimate to be twice what he offered (which I would have regrettably declined). But I feel his price was fair and reasonable, especially for today's predatory pricing climate. In our brief interaction, I found him to be a model of what the old fashioned 'small business' owner is supposed to be: responsive, professional, experienced, grateful for your business, and dedicated to delivering what you need. Estimate accepted on the spot, Santos showed up three days later as we arranged. It was just himself and a young helper with a pickup truck living the American Dream with not even a ladder on the truck. I thought, "Oh no, did I make a terrible mistake?" But no mistake! Like a professional mountain climber with ropes and pulleys, he scaled the tree while making it look effortless. My yard in Queen Village is close quarters, full of smaller trees and planted pots and a pergola, close to the neighbor's house and power lines. Regardless, within a few hours they extracted several LARGE branches (plus LOTS of smaller ones) and lowered them with ropes and pulleys in a very controlled manner. Only one tiny little branch from the top of a nearby Japanese maple was snapped off. Over all, a miracle! Thanks, Santos Tree Services!

It ripped through the polyurethane fabric of our outdoor storage shed & broke the corner metal frame. (It broke the metal pipes, it came down with such force.) Smaller branches left holes in the ground. While one of the workers immediately acknowledged the damage & apologized, the owner never contacted me like I was told he would. At 7pm I contacted him. He didn't seem to understand the extent of the damage because he only offered to replace the "tarp." I asked him to come assess the damage himself but he wouldn't give me a day & time when he available. I explained that valuable items were now exposed to the elements. He insisted on involving the elderly lady who hired him & eventually hung up on me. He offered my son a mere $250. His crew didn't even clean up the fallen mess. The elderly lady who hired him drove 2 hours to come assess the damage herself (I hadn't spoken to her so I assume the owner contacted her like he said he would). I was shocked when she texted me asking if she could drop off a check for $150 as the 1st installment of the $500 that *she*, not The Tree Connection, was going to pay! I told her absolutely not! She did not do the damage, the company did, & they're the ones responsible for it! I've never heard of a company expecting the person who hired them to pay for damage their crew did! Make sure you have a written guarantee that you will not be responsible any damage this company causes should you decide to hire them.

I cannot rave enough about RIchard Wills and his sons!!! We had 3 HUGE trees fall on our home…read moreduring Storm Sandy. My husband was on a boy's weekend to Vegas (yeah, I know... I'm such a good wife to allow that!) when this happened and it was just me, my 12 year old son and our pups at home, braving the storm and dealing with all of the damage, including broken windows, power outage, and the garage doors that were blocked from the fallen trees so that we could not even get the car out. I put in a call to our contractor, Joe Kirkner. He was out within hours to access the damage and cover our broken windows for us (at no charge, I might add! He's another great guy!) When I asked Joe for a reference on a good tree guy, he recommended Richard Wills. Now keep in mind how widespread the damage was in our area from the storm. They must have been pummeled with calls. But within hours of my phone call to him on the day after the storm, My heroes Richard and his sons were out here with chain saws, chopping those monster trees up into chunks and piling them up, out of the way of my garage door and emancipating my little Honda, and thus my son and I with it. They chopped the wood up perfectly so that our friends with wood burning fireplaces could come and get it. They were back within days to thoroughly grind up the remaining stumps and clean up the entire area so that Bob could get to work on the house repairs. And Richard's bill for the entire thing? SO amazingly low that I had to tell him to re-write a higher one! He was actually charging me about $1800 LESS than another company charged me to take down just ONE similar tree the summer before... and that guy didn't even take out the stump for us! If you are looking for a good tree service, look no further! I promise, you will NOT be disappointed by these "good 'ol hard working, honest and dependable country boys"!
