Stood there recently and it was a nice experience. I stayed in the all women's room with a restroom in the room. The only reason I don't give 5 stars is because I stood in July and it was sooooo hot in that room. No ventilation. I had to get out often to feel like I was getting air. I couldn't be in my bed comfortably cause of the heat. Bring your hand portable fan. I had it on to be able to sleep. read more

Actually really cute for a hostel. Wasn't dirty, kept clean for the most part. They have an open kitchen where you can bring your own food and cook if wanted. A little dinning room, few hang out rooms. There's a "bar" but I never seen anyone there running it nor did I see alcohol behind the bar so not sure if just seasonal? It's right in the center of Dublin so great price for location. The only downside was the walls were definitely not sound proof. Sleeping was difficult so make sure to bring ear plugs. read more

I wrote the previous review while I was still staying at the hostel. Everything had been great, so I assumed everything would stay great. Not so much. This will be long so it's divided into several parts. First Incident - I moved from a regular dorm room (where I'd been for 2 weeks) to the rainbow room (where long-term guests stay). I'd just put my bags in the cage, and a small suitcase beside the bed, and the owner comes in. He starts telling everyone this room is messy/not being cared for and because of people's luggage on the floors the cleaners can't get in and clean, and it's a fire hazard. He points to my bag and goes on a mini tirade, and I say it's my first night here, and I didn't know this. He offers a haphazard apology, and then says if there are any bags/items on the floor they'll be taken away and we'll need to pay €20 to get it back. I've worked in the hospitality industry and the owner treated everyone in this room (and everyone here was an adult) quite childish. It was jarring, but the rest of my stay had been good so far, so I put it out of my mind. Second Incident About a week and a half goes by. I'll admit I got a bit lazy. 99% of my items were either on my bed on the designated cage under my bed, but I did leave my one, small hard suitcase beside my bed. This was because 1. There wasn't room in the cage and while there is a locker room (in an open public space) for people in the rainbow room the lockers were either taken, or were unable to have a lock put on them (because of how they were designed). 2. No one, not one of the cleaners on any other day had made a complaint, or asked me to move my bag. It's a small wheeled suitcase, so I figured it's easy enough to move out of the way. 3. It was beside the foot of my bed, and not blocking the fire exit. I come home from work/flat hunting late one night to find my suitcase, and some things I had on my bed gone. I went down and they were being held ransom at the front desk. The suitcase I understand. I didn't follow the rules, but they never said we couldn't have our items on the bed. I know they change the linens once a week. Last week it was on a Saturday, this was a Friday. If they had said they'd be changing the linens on a Friday I would have cleared off the bed. I had stuff on there because it was first day at at a new job and I was rushing to get there one time. Then owner then proceeds to berate me when I tell him there's no lockers available in the rainbow room. He says we'll go down there and look and if he's right I'll pay him €20 and if I'm right I'll put my luggage in there. Really? There are three lockers, without locks but luggage in them. I assumed those were taken, but he says it doesn't matter because there are no locks on the locker and takes the stuff out. See when I see a bag in a locker (even without a lock) I don't touch it because it's not mine. I have common courtesy, but I guess that's not a thing here. He then tells me that at the hostel I'm not just paying for a bed, but I get the storage under the bed and the locker (for the long-term guests). If there were no lockers in this room the front desk would hold my bag for free (because I'm a rainbow room guest). Fair enough, but if I'm paying for the bed, then don't I have the right (within reason) to have my items on the bed? And it wasn't just items on the bed I had a towel hanging at the end of the bed (not on the floor) that they took off and threw in a garbage bag with other people's stuff. I didn't get to eat supper after hours of working and apartment hunting. I had to separate my stuff from other peoples' and do laundry. I was exhausted and rather upset. I came in the room after this incident and it was just as disorganized as it was in the morning (other people bags/stuff everywhere). I asked the owner if everyone else had their items confiscated like this and the owner and the head housekeeper said yes. I doubt that because - 80% of the people in this room are staff. It seems unlikely the staff would confiscate their own things, put them at the front desk, and insist on having them pay to get it back. - The items were in the exact same place they were when I left. Why would someone unpack all their items in the same messy way they were in before? The manager talked to me like I was 5, and didn't answer any of the questions I had. Like why the items on my bed were taken away and why my towel was taken away when it was hanging off the bed and not on the floor. The head housekeeper had also come down and explained how they needed to clean the rooms, which I understand, but they never communicated I couldn't have my own items on the bed I paid for. They kept making excuses for why they took my stuff. You can't just make up rules, decide when to apply them and then get upset/potentially charge people when they didn't read your mind and follow these rules. This was the worst hostel experience I've ever had. Don't stay at The Abbey Court. read more

I'm giving Abbey Court four stars based on my experience, although I'm pretty sure my experience will differ significantly from everyone else's. When I got to Dublin to study abroad, my program put us up in Abbey Court so we could get accustomed to the city during our orientation. I thought the location was great. We had an included lunch buffet (although, I think you normally have to pay extra for it). There is a lounge with a TV and other various amenities. We met some guys from Cork who were in town for something like the Irish version of American Idol. They were really fun to talk to. Anyway, my rooming situation was really good because I stayed with people from my program. I can't say what all the other rooms are like. I had a really good experience at Abbey Court. I think the location is perfect for anyone making a trip to Dublin. read more

This hostel was perfect for my solo trip. I was only there for a super short weekend. The wi-fi worked nearly everywhere, though the bandwidth too low/slow for me to backup up my phone photos over wi-fi to my Dropbox. The room (Female 8+bath) and other facilities were clean, though all the common and private toilets/showers are quite small. More importantly though, hot water and excellent pressure came spouting out with minimal delay. For someone like me used to traveling in developing countries, these are luxuries to relish. Free breakfast is quite limited in selection (toast/jam/cereals), but gets the job done at the price point. The staff making sure breakfast runs smoothly are definitely a hard working bunch who I applaud. The front desk staff is very attentive, friendly, and helpful. They'll answer any question and won't look bored in the process. There are more rules and policies here than I've ever experienced before, but nothing that isn't ultimately in the best interest of safety and sustainability. Location wise, I thought it was perfect. Not smack dab in the middle of tourist central, but a 5 min walk in either direction to the happening spots and close to multiple transportation routes. My only con would probably be the amount of stairs! It's a very vertical building, and climbing up and down all the time to get the things I need is exhausting when you've been walking around all day trying to catch in the sights. This is nothing that the establishment can change or anything, but if you're weighing options, you might want to take this into consideration. I'd be back again if I was desperate a short-term place, but I'd also be more than willing to see what other hostels have to offer in the same price range. read more

I stayed here for 1 night and I wish I was able to stay longer. I felt this was the best hostel to stay in after all the research I did before booking, and I knew I was right. The location is very prime - close to public transportation (such as the 31 line that takes you to Howth for a beautiful hike) or the 747 (which connects you to the airport). Temple bar area is a 5-10 minute walk, and you're right on the river so it's quite scenic the second you step out the front door. The staff here were fairly diverse and were happy to make recommendations. One staff member eagerly recommended I visit Howth since I only had 1 day in Ireland and I'm so thankful for that! I had the most amazing hike and it was easy to navigate getting there because of his recommendation. I stayed in the women's dorm, and the gals were quite social. We went out, and coming back late didn't seem to be an issue since there are curtains on the beds to block out light. Charger and light in each bunk, and a big crate storage underneath the bed. We had an en-suite bathroom which was nice, but there were more bathrooms right in the hallway if needed. Luggage storage is free and in a common space, but €3 if you have valuables. Kitchen is big, eating areas are big. Honestly would stay here again when in Dublin! read more

That picture of Abbey Court is outdated or something, because the building is purple now which makes it easy to spot. I feel like everyone's experience varies here at Abbey Court. And I definitely have mixed feelings about the place. My friend and I initially booked one might's stay in a 6 bed room. However, they overbooked and gave us two options: 1) Stay in the 6 bed room and be separated 2) Move into a 28 bed room (WHUT) We chose the latter option because it was my friend's first time staying at a hostel and the thought of being separated made her uncomfortable. We stayed in the rainbow room. Pros: 1) great way to meet people. I met quite a few people from different parts of Spain that invited me out to pub crawl. 2) There are lockers beneath the bed 3) beds are very comfortable and the sheets were clean Cons: 1) It was absolutely ridiculous trying to find my room. I've never been in a place that was more of a labyrinth. I got lost.. SOBER. I walked down a couple of flight of stairs, took a turn, only to walk up another flight of stairs. To this day, I really don't know where I stayed. I just followed the signs. 2) To get into the room, there's a code that you punch into a keypad and, because there's 28 people that was staying there, the door is always opening and closing. 3) There isn't an outlet for every bed. That's not to say that this is a bad hostel. ----The service was impeccable; the front desk gave us a huge discount on our stay for the inconvenience (we paid 12 Euros each which was a steal) and helped us find different attractions around town. -The continental breakfast was pretty good (and free): coffee, tea, cereal, orange juice, sausage rolls, toast.. -There are plenty of places to socialize including the dining room, computer room, hammock room.. The entire place was just a little crowded for my taste (it's so gigantic there), but if you want to meet people, this is a great place to be. Just make sure to bring a towel and a good pair of shower flip flops. read more

So I stayed here at Abbey Court for a combination of 4 nights. My first 3 nights I was in a single dorm with my own private bathroom. It was perfect. The room itself isn't that big, enough for a bed and a dresser and then the bathroom. However, all I did was sleep there so I didn't need a master sized room. The bed was comfy and clean, I had fresh towels each day for me, and the shower and bathroom was clean and always had hot water. There's no windows in the room I was in but a skylight which was perfect so you don't feel too claustrophobic. The cleaning crew accidentally took my own personal towel one day, but the staff was so nice and took me down to their laundry room and let me look around for it (it was already folded and dried which was great). The breakfast they provided each morning was enough to keep me good until dinner and they constantly were refilling the breakfast items. I was impressed! It can get crowded in their dining room but since I was by myself I always had a place to sit. :) My last night there on my return (I took a 3 day trip to Belfast) was in a 6 person mixed dorm. I was a little unsure at first about it since I'd never stayed in a hostel before my first nights here, much less in a room with strangers, but the people in it were so nice. I stayed with 3 gentleman from Germany, 1 woman from Norway, and another woman who didn't say where she was from. It was a room with 6 bunk beds. Again, just big enough for the beds and an aisle way with our own bathroom. Everyone was super respectful of each other and made my last night there nice. I was lucky to have a group where once we said we wanted to go to bed everyone was quiet. We chatted a lot and I was happy to be staying with such good people. We stayed on the side facing Bachelors Walk so we were able to open a window to let fresh air in. There's a pizza place downstairs (or next door, not sure) so the room smelled like a pizza parlor sometimes, which I think only made the room better haha. The staff was helpful each time I needed them or had a question and when checking out made sure I knew where I was going and if I needed any assistance. You need a key card to get in anywhere which I like. For the amount of people I saw at breakfast, I hardly knew that many people were staying there since I hardly heard anyone during the day or night. The hostel is very big. And the price was just right. I would 1000% come back here! read more

This was the first hostel I have ever stayed at and it was amazing. Incredibly clean, comfortable beds. My friend and I were very lucky to have kind roommates. The staff we so friendly and was willing to help us with whatever we needed and gave us great recommendations. The wifi was a bit spotty and the room got hot and night with the window closed but I slept comfortably. It is within walking distance of many of the sights and buses very easy to get to and from the airport. I would definitely stay here again. read more

I came to Dublin with my girlfriend for a concert and we needed a cheap place to stay. This hostel far exceeded my expectations and everyone we came across has been lovely. We paid only €17 each for a night and got access to all of their facilities including a hammock room, a games room, a cinema... and so much more!!! They offer free hotel standard breakfast every morning too. In terms of aesthetic this hostel is colourful and artsy, clean and inviting! Would highly recommend and I can't wait to return! read more

Abbey Court is a hostel and tourist apartment complex on Bachelor's Walk, right beside O'Connell Bridge. In terms of location, you can't get much more central, and most rooms have views over the bridge and the River Liffey. They are refurbished to very modern standards, are clean and very secure (you need keycards to get in and out and there are individual lockers in every room). Dorms have 4-12 beds with prices ranging accordingly from €19-31. Private en-suite doubles are €79-89, which seems a little steep... read more

BED BUGS EVERYWHERE. My friends and I arrived in Dublin yesterday. We were exhausted from a long day of traveling and couldn't wait to sleep. We were assigned the 'Guinness Room' and after a maze of hallways we finally found it in the very back. It was around 2 AM and we didn't want to wake our other roommates so we chose to leave the light off. I was about to crawl in bed when I noticed something crawling so I turned on my phone flashlight and sure enough, a bed bug was crawling on the duvet. My friend and I have dealt with bed bugs before so we immediately knew what it was. We went down to the front desk to see if I could get a new mattress or change rooms. After a brief discussion, they obliged. The employee came in with a rollaway bed and put the dirty sheets/duvet from the infested bed on the new mattress. Anyone who has had bed bugs before knows this is a major no-no. My other friend then found a bed bug crawling across her pillow on the other side of the room. Needless to say, we did NOT stay there. read more

The best part of the hostel is the location. It is perfect to be able to walk almost anywhere worth seeing. The staff are also kind and accommodating of issues that may arise. The cinema room, hammock room, and overall common areas are nice. When you check out, they still allow you to use these areas until your flight, etc. It was easy to socialize with other travelers here. The rooms were clean, and I saw many staff members cleaning throughout the hostel during the day. The only issue was some of the people staying in the hostel. It seemed like random people would come in off the street, and although it isn't the hostels fault, it made the stay a bit uncomfortable at rare times. My friend had something that she left unlocked stolen by such a person, so be sure to lock everything up each night. Overall had a great stay, and found the experience enjoyable. read more

The desk staff was very friendly and helpful! Stayed in a two twin bed room with ensuite. It was really nice and perfect for our stay. Plus, Tupac was painted on our door...that was pretty cool! The hostel has musicians painted all over the walls! I really liked it. I enjoyed that breakfast was included, and that they offered luggage storage. Also, a free walking tour is offered most days...you just meet up outside the entrance. The desk staff was very helpful with providing that information. Pretty good hostel, with nice beds and clean facilities. It is in a nice location and very reasonably priced as well. We stayed in the 24 bed room but I would recommend staying in a room that has fewer people since you can hear everything at night. Lockers are provided underneath the bunk beds, so be sure to bring your own lock to secure your possessions. read more

Eh. Some disclaimers before I start this review: 1. I'm almost 30 years old, LOVE to travel but am too poor to stay in a solo hotel in Europe and am also too old to stay in a hostel in Europe. 2. I used to work in a hostel in San Francisco (HI City Center, represent!), so I compare all standards to that hostel. My stay: The ride from the airport was pleasant enough. The bus was cheap and the walk from the bus stop to the hostel was short and pretty easy to get to from O'Connell Street. Check in was really quick and the staff seemed pleasant and enthusiastic. There was free wifi throughout the hostel, which was a bonus. The common areas were pretty clean, as were the bathrooms. Speaking of which, there were TONS of bathrooms spread throughout the hostel, which was a good surprise. I didn't have the breakfast, but I'm sure it was pretty standard. It was a cold weekend and the beds were super comfortable. Seemed clean enough with no bedbugs! I stayed in a 20 bed female dorm room. Read that: 20 FEMALES IN ONE ROOM. Never again homies! All in all, I'm not sure if I would stay in THIS hotel again, or ANY hostel. I would definitely never stay in a room with 20 other chicks again. I was only there for a weekend and the price was right, so meh. Hurray for Dublin! read more

Terrible place to stay in Dublin. Room was terrible and hot. Smelled like onions and body odor. Guests very loud when coming home and opening luggage storage. Had to leave a night early and book a hotel due to conditions here. Would not recommend. read more

We did not even sleep one night. After a late flight, we checked in around 0200. We never turned on the light in our room because we were trying to not disturb roommates. 2 out of the 3 of us could visibly SEE beg bugs in the sheets. You know if you can see them then there are a ton more eggs/babies around. I told the front desk and the man tried to tell me they had ways to tell if there was a bed bug problem and so we were fine. I brought the pillow down to SHOW him the bed bug and he just gave me a look. We got a full refund, so I appreciate the way they handled it. They threw the sheets from the infected beds on another bed, so I really don't think they understand how they spread. He also took the pillow I brought down and set it behind the counter next to the towels. Gross. read more

Nice hostel, amazing location, free breakfast (although I checked out early so I didn't try it) they have huge mixed rooms that are really cheep and are pretty much just a place to sleep. Shared outlets on the wall and space under bed to put things (but it's sort of rachet) . Staff is super friendly and helpful and The decor is cool and there is a room full of hammocks which bumped this review up one star. Over all would stay here again. read more

Our room was on the third floor and connected to the smoking area outside. When we would walk onto our floor, there would be a nauseating plume of cigarette smoke that would greet us. Also- the wifi would only work in some hallways and the ground floor, making stair wells a popular area for gathering and making it difficult for anyone else to move around. The staff was great and very helpful, can't see my self visiting again in the future though. read more

I asked to change beds, but the staff said that I needed to check out of the hostel and store my luggage downstairs and then re-check in later in the day if i wanted to move to one of the empty beds. Having stayed here every week for almost a year would have expected a better standard of treatment. Must point out that never had any prior issues with any staff member. The reason I say this is that upon reading previous reviews, have noticed the tendency of management to discredit every negative review with some slander. I was staying in Abbey Court every week but mostly not at the weekend and had gotten into a habit of leaving a lot of my belongings in a luggage room for convenience. I fully understood that it was completely at my own risk and returned after being away one weekend to discover that the luggage room had been completely cleared out and according to reception staff Lorenzo, whatever was in the luggage room was indiscriminately put into black bags and disposed of. Was extremely disappointed to put it mildly as had few hundred euro worth of clothes, toiletries, shoes, jacket, and a phone which was in the bottom of a backpack. When asking Lorenzo what I could possibly do, he immediately took an accusatory manner blaming me for having left my belongings there in the first place but said he would let me look through the bin shed for my luggage. Thought little bit of empathy wouldn't have gone amiss given the circumstances and fact that I would have been known to these staff. It was late at night and difficult to properly search through the bins, so I decided to get up early the next morning and talk to the head of cleaning Florian. Needless to say I never got any of my luggage back and had no choice but to accept the luggage was left at a certain risk and unfortunately was gone. However a week later I checked my Google account and noticed that my phone which had been in my luggage was now switched on and being used by someone in Moldova. When I showed this proof to the manager Reggie he told me that while he did not agree with it, the cleaning staff had emptied out all the luggage, taken what was of value and disposed of the rest. He also told me he would try and get my phone back for me, which he managed to do. The phone was handed back to me with no apology or explanation. I had to initiate a conversation with Reggie the following day and he offered me an excuse about one of the cleaning staff taking the phone and sending it to their kid in Moldova. Had my phone not been with my luggage, the original explanation (while distressing) of the luggage just been thrown out would have been accepted. The fact of the matter is they lied, and obviously if they took my phone I'm sure they wouldn't have passed up on my good shoes, jacket, clothes and everything else of value. Also the fact that the head of cleaning Florian allowed me to route through the filthy bin shed for half an hour while knowing that my luggage had already been divided up by his staff was an added frustration. At least if he had been honest with me could have saved me the hassle and subsequent sickness I had that week. This is my experience, I wouldn't recommend staying in Abbey Court. read more

Wonderful place to stay right in the heart of Dublin! The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hostel itself is so cool- there is graffiti and artwork all over and a hammock room for relaxing (personal favorite!). They run a pub crawl every night and walking tours everyday. Highly recommend! read more
