We had a very complicated challenge involving three condos and Jim was able to solve all the factors and provide superb results. We were able to appreciate their expertise and skills when we(it was a 400 mile move)did the unloading/unpacking ourselves and experienced first hand the care and attention and ability it took to maximize the space(26 foot U-Haul)as you could not get a tea towel in. I employed Abbey's Smart Move to facilitate my move from Bedford to the Windsor area. The move was completed with minimum of disruption. The movers arrived om time with the individual workers very friendly and understanding of our needs. While there were some minor confusion everything was corrected immediately without any issues. I booked well over a month ago for a 3rd floor walk up and was moving to the first floor and over 15 apartments. The day I booked the owner told me over a certain amount of distance they load the truck and pull it around. Moving day comes and the owner had a terrible attitude and came with a full truck, so his guys had to walk it like 400 feet, and acted like it was my fault and said he didn't want to do the job but will get done what he can........ (so no guarantee the job will get done?) Then when I said I would get someone else because he clearly didn't want to do the job they left my stuff in the parking lot and all over the stairs well! It's disappointing what a couple of years can do for a business. This is a company I have moved with numerous times. My family and others. They still have the same great guys.. that's why it guts me so much to write this.. but I have been wronged. I booked a 12 noon (with an hour window allowed) move.. not that I should have to put this in there, when the company takes two bookings in a day, but a 9am move time was not feasible for my girlfriend who is in school... but more on that later. So the big day comes along.. and we're all ready for the move. Arrived at the apartment at 11. Waited around. Then we waited some more. Then we waited some more. So 1 o'clock comes around.. and I get a call. I get a whole bunch of excuses. The main one being, apparently the morning client asked them to do more than they were quoted for... somehow that is my problem.. anyways. I am not a jerk. And I know the guys are just doing what the boss tells them to do... so I begrudingly accept another hour delay or so. Then we wait. Then we waited some more. Then we waited some more. It's 2:45 now. I'm getting grumpy.. I have to work in 4 hours. I call the office and ask for Jim. Then it all breaks loose. He's annoyed with me and confrontational with me saying I should have expected this booking the evening move. That he warned us (he didn't) when we booked.. and so that we'll just have to deal with this. So, I stupidly back down.. knowing that they have me by the short curly ones.. if I want to move today. Then we wait. Then we waited some more. Then we waited some more. Then we waited some more. Then we waited some more. Finally, 5:30 comes along and a truck shows up. God love them.. the guys do apologize and get to work. Unfortunately, I'm pissed at this point. They're pissed because they know they won't get home anytime soon... and so we commence the job. I have to give up my work shift that night because of these ridiculous delays. A couple of minor stops along the way.. we're done. at 9pm. That's 8 hours. 8. 8. I ask for the dollar amount to pay. They check with the boss. $380.............................................................................................................................................................................. Once again. Against my better judgement because I am not dealing with the boss.. I pay the guys and send them on their way. I call the next morning to speak with Jim and once again get dismissed cause he knocked 75 bucks off the price... with his main point being.. "I was really only upset about the delays." Yes. My husband and I recently moved from our family home of 25+ years to an apartment in the city. Jim and his crew are to be commended, as they made the move very seamless! Jim provided packing bins and moving blankets prior to the move, which allowed us to be very organized. The day of the actual move went very smoothly; Jim and his workers arrived at the appointed time and moved everything, in a relatively short period of time. There were no damages whatsoever to any of the furniture ( including a piano) or any items moved. The workers were pleasant and efficient. Saved us when we had an emergency move for the first weekend of September. Only had a weeks notice, but they managed to fit us in. Moved our two bedroom apt, including a 60" plasma tv, to our new place by lunchtime. 3 guys, no damage, and super fast. read more

I am very disheartened after dealing with Abbey's Smart move. A co-worker who works for one of our storage companies had recommended them, so I called and spoke to Jim Abbey before booking the move. I explained who I worked for and who recommended him, he told me on the phone that I would not be charged for the return time to Halifax. I was quoted a rate of $95 / hr for the move (I moved from Halifax to Mt.Uniacke). The move only took 3.5 hrs as we had moved alot of the boxes ourselves. I was charged $509.86, which comes out to almost 5 hrs. I was not there when the payment was made or I would have questioned it then. It should have only been $382.37 as per what I was quoted. Also they do not even give you an invoice showing what you are paying when the move is done. When I called Jim back and mentioned this to him, he denies ever telling me that he would not charge me the return time. I am very dissappointed that he would be so underhanded. I learned my lesson thoroughly not to just trust a word of mouth agreement, as some people are dishonest and their word is worth nothing!! You would think that keeping your word, would be worth something, especially when you are linked to a storage company that can give him lots of recommendations in the future.... stupid move...word of mouth can destroy a business, but he doesn't care at all. read more
