Since Ms. Chartier took over as principal, it feels like the school has unfortunately started to fall apart in several areas. Academically, many classes seem to be falling behind, and there are growing concerns from parents about the quality of education students are receiving. More importantly, many students no longer feel safe or supported at school, which is extremely concerning for families who trust the school with their children every day. Another issue that has become very noticeable is favoritism. Many parents and even staff members have expressed frustration about unequal treatment and the lack of consistency when addressing concerns. I have personally spoken with several staff members and parents who say they have repeatedly tried to resolve issues, but their concerns are often dismissed. Many describe Ms. Chartier as rude, unprofessional, and difficult to communicate with. It is especially upsetting to see front office staff having to apologize to parents and students because of the way situations are handled. No staff member should feel responsible for smoothing over embarrassing or negative interactions caused by school leadership. Overall, it is heartbreaking to see such a decline in the school environment compared to how things were under Mr. Ewald's leadership. I truly wish Mr. Ewald would have remained principal because the school felt more organized, welcoming, and supportive during his time there.

There is no residential treatment facility that is "perfect". You can go to any site and find…read morenegative reviews. You need to dig deep and look beyond and figure out the best placement for your child. We did that and are beyond grateful for the Barrasso's and In Balance Academy. Our son thrived there! We were told 12-14 months and he was there a total of 13 months. He had a few setbacks (some poor decisions, i.e. a shoving/shouting incident and intentional rule-breaking) which kept him there for a few additional weeks. He loved the food and the cook, who took the boys who were interested in the kitchen and taught them to cook! In Balance physically cannot accommodate more than 50 students and the most that were ever there was 48. (Because the Barrasso's are committed to getting kids healthy and not just in it for the money, they always tried to have a few beds open for emergency placement. Also, re: how they are just in it for the money, we are still paying for our bill 5 years later. Jobs have come and gone and NEVER ONCE have we gotten a call or a letter requesting payment for what we still owe. We have whittled our debt down but they couldn't have been more understanding.) My son excelled in the school program and was accepted to the college of his choice and the program of his dreams! To keep this review objective, I will tell you that he also entered the TL program and did, indeed, take up smoking (which I abhor). After spending 13 months in a program with lots of supervision, the In Balance TL program (transitional living) gives the boys opportunities to make their own decisions since they are learning to live on their own. Just as your kid may go off to college or move out on their own after high school, the opportunity to "sow your wild oats" will arise. In the case of TL, smoking is one of those "oats". They are drug-tested regularly, have continued (but less) scheduled therapy, work or attend school in the area and make their own meals. As a parent, it is difficult to see some of the choices your kid makes (mine smoked and got a tattoo....another thing I hate!) but they were his choices. It has been a few years since he has been completely independent and he has quit smoking and regrets his tattoos. His lessons, not mine. Again, whatever program you may be researching, you will find pros and cons. Chances are, whatever program you pick will have great things to offer your kid. It's up to him/her to engage and stay motivated and committed to THEIR OWN recovery. We found In Balance the perfect place for our son to learn the tools to overcome his addiction, the loving support to work through his issues, the guiding support given to us as parents to work alongside him and own up to our role in the problems, and the continued growth we experience years later in growing closer as a family. We are forever indebted to Patrick, Betsy and the In Balance family.

Leman Academy Central only gets 1 star because I can't give less. If I was rating on academics only…read moreI would have given 5 stars; however, this particular campus has a severe bullying issue that they DO NOT handle. The bully is allowed to continue without consequences and the victims are left to feel unsafe and some students have been removed by parents because of it. The school policies state that bullying is not tollerated; however, Central refuses to take corrective action and protects those doing the bullying over the victims. This leaves me to think that the bullies are related to some staff OR the campus just simply doesn't care. The victim is left feeling unsafe in an environment that should be and it leaves the bully not having any consequences to learn that this violent behavior is dangerous. The stance Central is taking is only serving the purpose of grooming future violence we see all to many times on the news. If you want your child to attend Leman Academy of Excellence choose another campus but stay far away from Central for your child's sake.
