Today we made a necklace and earrings. All I needed was wire, tools, and jump rings ( they are circles made of wire that is used to hold different pieces together) It was easy and fun. August 2023 Located next to the ABC district. Parking is a bit limited but the entrance markers will let you know where to park. For those taking a proctor exam, the assessment center is located towards the back area of the parking lot. At the check-in area, the staff will be provided documentation for the test taker to review and sign before being assigned to a separate area for testing. They don't allow studying once you enter the assessment area. So study in your vehicle before checking in. Maybe look elsewhere if you're looking to join the Cosmetology program. Unfortunately, this place has an amazing price for their cosmetology program. The reason it's unfortunate is because although its an amazing option to save money, it's clear that you get a much worse education here because of it. There are two teachers currently, Ms. Regina and Ms. Ortega. From literally the first day of being there it was an obvious split between the two of them. Because of this, and a few other reasons, I came to realize in my time there that I wasn't going to get a proper eduction if I decided to stay. I was in Regina's class from only August- Late October. In that short time I witnessed racism, antisemitism, conversations about inappropriate sexual topics, and even body shaming towards ME.-- some of these topics even stemming from my instructor herself. I know to some this might be not a huge deal, but its crazy to me that within only 2 months, I got to know just how exclusive these women are. And when I decided to separate myself from it as a form of setting boundaries, I was suddenly the bad guy for not wanting to spend time around them. Why would I want to be around that? It got to a point where I had to say something because the way the classroom was working in favoritism of students who had made it clear that they wouldn't even want a Black or Asian person in their chair... It was among the most ignorance I've ever witnessed. I stood up twice. Once was by telling a higher up of my instructor, Ms. Kathy. Nothing happened and the behaviors continued. I realized that, as an adult myself, I can speak up about it to those who are specifically behaving this way. When I did, I was threatened and told " You can get your money back or you'll have to can stay here and deal with me". A 25 year old student said that to me, a 19 year old student for confronting them calmly about making racist comments. Then later I was made out to be the bad guy again for speaking out about it, by the Vice Principal, Ms. Melissa-- when I had previously followed their procedures with the same complaints and ZERO disciplinary action was taken. In my life I have always gone through a few things that I don't think are so bad because I always do my best at being empathetic-- and man, this class was BAD. It's kind of sad actually, because I was the one who was made to leave. I've been in the ABC District my entire life and now that I'm about to get my career, I get pushed out instead of those in the classroom who were not only racist, but also shaming me for things like my body. That student still gets to go there, while I left because I didn't feel safe around a student who threatened me (not to mention, she was the teachers favorite student). Luckily I got my money back because of it. But I'm very disappointed in the district that I grew up in for allowing this behavior to continue with little to no consequences. Again-- I know this is a wonderful option price wise. And I totally understand that for some, that makes this school their only option. But, if you come across this review-- just please be aware (and be prepared), that if you are not a Mexican woman, who: speaks Spanish, is racist, body shames others and dislikes the idea of providing services to the students with disabilities-- you are likely not going to fit in with Ms. Regina's class. That's not even half the list, but you get the point. Ms. Ortega's class may be opening up again. I'm not sure when or if she will be teaching the course entirely again-- but she seems to be much more inclusive. Though, not many have enjoyed her teaching style (I did, when she subbed our class). Maybe take a tour and get a feel for the environment yourself. My advice is that you pick a better option, but if you absolutely have to come here-- focus on the material. Read your book and do the online work. Keep to yourself, and keep it surface level unless you find someone you know is safe. Play nice, protect your peace, get your hours and get out. It's likely that you will notice the tension in this class. Just do your best to have boundaries, take note of what happens, and choose your friends wisely. Thankfully I met two amazing friends from the course-- because we bonded not only over similar interests, but also over what we went through in those two short months. read more

Just started taking the Upholstery class at night at the Cuesta location. The teacher is very knowledgeable and makes sure that safety comes first! I brought in my vintage dining chairs as projects to work on. Every student should bring their basic tools like screw drivers and tape measurer, etc, but they have a "shop card" where you buy (for cheap!) from the class: foam, padding, cotton, piping cord, button backs, etc. The Upholstery Center building also has air staple guns, heavy duty sewing machines, storage area, and other tools to share. The other students were middle aged men and women that have repeated the class for years to use the center for shop equipment and of course, guidance from Victor the instructor. I've been taking woodworking classes for the last 1.5 yrs and decided to take an upholstery class so I can upholster a wood project should I so desire. Someone told me about this school's upholstery class so I decided to take it. BIG MISTAKE! The ABC Adult School website for the class entitled: UPHOLSTERY - BASIC TECHNIQUES has the following class description: "This class teaches fundamentals of upholstery with a decorative flair, including instruction on frame construction repair, restoration, restyling and fabric selection." I signed up for this class because I wanted to learn about how to do upholstery, little did I know that the write up for the class was completely fraudulent and misrepresenting what was actually being taught which is NOTHING! You bring a project to class, put your name on the board and when the teacher gets to your name you get some help. That is it. I've had to beg and plead for information, even just being taught the basics. There is no actual lecture or class instruction, not even the basics such as what the different materials are, what they are used for, how to use an industrial sewing machine, etc. There is no curriculum whatsoever. I have had several confrontations with the instructor on this and he says he understands but can do nothing about it. If it weren't for the fact that I tore apart my boyfriend's recliner as my class project all they would see of me is my backside as I run away fast. As for learning decorative flare, frame construction, fabric selection, it never happened. WHAT A FREAKING JOKE! In addition, starting this quarter, just in time for my first class, the school stopped providing supplies the students can buy. So we have to either buy amounts that as a new student we would never use up or pray that the teacher has it in his own business and buy it from him. UGH! The biggest part of the problem is letting students just pick any furniture piece and work on it. This does not allow the teacher to teach everyone the same skills and thereby actually teach some skills rather than the students just floundering. We should all be working on the same projects, get equal instruction and once learned move on to more difficult projects. This is the way all school work is done, building on what you have learned with clear and concise instruction. 100, 101, 102, etc. Just. Like. Real. School. Duh! The only way you are going to learn anything is to take the class over and over and over and over and then only if you are lucky will you be able to reupholster a chair on your own. Do not sign up for this class unless you want to be frustrated out of your mind. Unfortunately, I will probably have to take another class in order to finish the chair I started. So excited to find this school. It is the only place I have found in all of Los Angeles & Orange counties to take upholstery classes. I live in Pasadena and Cerritos is about a 1 hour drive depending on traffic. I happily commute once a week to ABC Adult School to learn about the craft of upholstery. The school has a very large complete studio fully stocked with all the equipment you need to reupholster any piece of furniture. The sewing room boasts over 10 Industrial Sewing Machines, two huge cutting boards and supplies. The workroom has enough space for 18 students to set up and work on their pieces. They also have a large storage facility to store your projects while you are working on them. I've been enrolled just this semester in two back to back classes for a total of 8 hours of instruction once a week. The new teacher, Glenn, is the best. He has VAST experience as a craftsman and patiently explains the steps you need to take to complete your project. He does recommend that you start with a simple piece to begin with and then progress. But it is your choice and he will guide you along the way. Because of the structure of the classroom, you do have to wait occasionally to get the individual teaching you need. BUT, many students here have been coming for years and are more than willing to help out a newbie. You really don't even have to ask as they kindly watch over you and offer assistance. It is a real family here creating together. I will be making this commute for years to come! Love the school and class, but the teacher and people is what makes it special! read more

The staff are very nice and enthusiastic and always willing to help. the students are wonderfull to I have already made one to two friends between the two classes that I am curintly taking and will continue to get on the diploma track through multimedia graphic desighn there are many classes to take .there are classes ranging from LVN to Nursing and so many others ...I highly recommend this school if you want to further your education. the campus is not huge yet very clean and not a bunch of different buildings to walk to and from. I have been taking the upholstery class at the abc adult school in Cerritos for the past 2 plus years. I find the class to be educational and rewarding and the new instructor Glen Quezada is an excellent addition to the teaching staff. Glen has many years of upholstery experience and shows you a variety of ways to make your furniture personally yours. I have seen some amazing transformations. The students in this class tend to be more mature than many of the other classes on the campus which I find very refreshing, I don't feel like the odd man out being a very young 67!!!. I think that because of the type of class this is everyone is willing to help, share, work and encourage one another, this makes the class a very sociable experience. I would encourage anyone who is interested in learning a new craft, and is interested in taking on a reupholstering project to come and join us. An "Upholstery"class is very hard to find, and they are expensive. I found one that is perfect for what I want to do. This school has a dedicated sewing room with measuring equipment and cutting tables large enough for cutting yards of fabric. Sewing machines for making cushions and sewing double welting, a serger, and a machine for covering buttons. Connected to the sewing room is the work room with miter saws, drills, a table saw, and plenty of staple guns running off of a huge air compressor. Our teacher has many years of experience and a passion for, not only teaching, but reconstructing and changing the shape of furniture. He is a true artist. Students. this semester. are reupholstering couches, headboards, and antique chairs, which we also learn how to repair. I reupholstered a beautiful blue velvet chair. I am signing up again to learn how to diamond tuck a slipper chair for my bedroom. I love this class. read more

the floral design class with charlene park is ridiculous. do not take this class, especially if you are asian. she's asian but she discriminates against them, especially koreans (even though she's korean!) she claims that it's because she wants to teach more thoroughly to her own kind..what does that even mean? she is always always late! last time we waited almost 30 minutes outside.she doesn't even teach. she just goes on and on about herself and how she thinks shes the best florist out there. she doesn't even teach the class..she talks about her so called "achievements" for an hour while making some old 80's style arrangement and then tells us to make the same thing. i understand if she is trying to teach me something, but she doesn't teach and just criticizes because i make my arrangement different then says that i never listen however, the person next to me (who is not asian/korean) did the same mistake but nothing..sorry i don't want to make an outdated old arrangement..its freaking 2020 step up your game. she spoke so rudely to me for all three classes and the way she belittles someone.. i don't know how this is acceptable behavior and how she can even say she is an instructor! if this is an example of this school then no, i don't think people should waste their money coming here. i want to make one point very very clear- charlene if you read this i didn't drop your class because i am "overly sensitive" or because you criticized me, i know how to take criticism. i dropped your class because there is nothing that you can teach me that i don't already know. i know what i am doing, unlike you i got my degree in floral design and just wanted to take this class so my technique doesn't get rusty..i put the floral foam in vertically because i wanted my arrangement to flow that way, not because i am "wrong" as you put it. you need to fix your attitude and focus more on how you can help people enjoy this class, but i guess i should've kept my expectation low from a $75 class. read more

I take upholstery at a ABC adult school and I love it. The instructor is SUPER knowledgable, kind, and patient. He allows all kinds of upholstery projects. I have a giant sofa I have been working on. You also get to leave your project in class. Also the instructor buys many supplies for you. You will have instruction on tools to buy if you wish. The class IS mature. Many classmates have taken the class for a long time and they're super helpful if you get stuck. Everyone is encouraging in the class too. I have never been part of such a bunch of uplifting people. My classes where all taken at the Cabrillo Lane campus, with the same teacher, Mrs Mares. Because I needed to update my computer skills I choose to take the MS Word, Computer Essentials B and Keyboarding. I'm So happy that I choose this school and received this teacher! The classes were affordable and the teacher not only had immense knowledge of the courses but she was kind and patient and gave much of her time individually to each student that requested it. Here is the in's and out of ABC adult school. It really depends on the class and the teacher you get. it's like school any where else. If you have a professor that has a passion for teaching, the material will be more interesting. I took two classes back to back. One was Dreamweaver and the other was HTML 5. Both taught by same instructor. Dreamwaver was great. Had lectures and a lot of instruction. HTML 5 was not. Very dry and hard to follow. It was show up, follow the book step by step and try to put it together in your mind. It got so bad, halfway throughout he semester I just stopped going. The book was very expensive as well. Do I recommend? Yes, for $40/class per semester, it's worth it if you learn just one thing. read more

ABC Upholstery class is the best. In fact, probably the only one of its kind in SO CAL. Victor the instructor is great and knows his stuff. He is more than willing to teach you the best of this wonderful trade. Students learn everything that is needed to produce a great looking finished piece of restored soft goods furniture. Many classes are offered to fit in with your schedule. I wish I could go every day. Reasonable fees, Only problem is trying to get school and state budgets to allow the class to continue. I give ABC Adult School 5 stars across the board. I have attended this school (Cabrillo Campus) in the past for other courses and I can honestly say that this school has only gotten better. I just completed their Medical Billing and Coding class along with their Anatomy and Medical Terminology class. It was totally worth my time that I put in and also motivated me to continue with other classes to help with my career goals. I researched a lot of schools for Medical Billing and Coding before deciding on ABC and I am happy to say that I made the right choice. The school is affordable, has flexible class schedules, and the teachers really want to help you succeed. The campus is clean and is in a convenient location near freeways. This school is good for those looking to rejoin the workforce, recent high school graduates, those looking for a career change, or if you just want to take a class for enrichment or to learn a new skill/hobby. I really can't say enough positive things about this place. I am truly grateful that I was able to find an affordable learning institution in this day and age. I took Carolyn Cervantes in Summer-Fall 2014. She is very knowledgeable in her field. In the beginning I did admire her. But in the end she lost my respect for her. But throughout her class I was able to see allot of personal flaws. 1st, she was childish; 2nd, was at times not respectful to middle-aged students; 3rd, having her tantrums; 4th, trying to fix students up with her girls by asking for a students number and wanting to know about their personal income; 5th, not showing any sensitivity to students who had failed marriages when it came to in-class discussions, and finally. Getting into the faces of students in such an intimidating manner as if she was trying to instigate altercation, for example: screaming or yelling and bullying (if any student would have decided to get up and knock her on her ass. It would be the student who would suffer the consequences regardless of who started the altercation). One day she yelled at the entire class. finally, she does not seem to let things go and continued to be disrespectful even when others decided to let go and move on, and being friendly towards her. read more
