Wish I could say my experience was better but the registration is awful. The assistant paralegal (Amalia) is in charge of the acts she is superior because she helps with the registration process. I did everything needed and was simply waiting for an email response to make payment and I am assuming she forgot to email me back because she called my in the afternoon on Dec 31 leaving me a voice message that I needed to pay because it was due on Monday. In any prior emails or via phone did she ever state that, if I would have known I would of called and emailed as much as possible for her to give me the green light to pay. They need to get someone that is actually trying to help others advance their career instead of someone who did this course and acts like she finished her Bachelors and is a lawyer. Worst place ever. LVN program is the worse, the teacher goes off topic all the time she just talks about her personal life . Like I was going to learn not to hear you going off topic all the time. She is so rude as well makes you feel uncomfortable. You can't ask questions cause she'll answer you so rude making you feel dumb And chooses favoritism. Horrible place if you must and don't have another choice, financially. Then make sure you can study and learn yourself. Financial aid ladies are extremely rude and demeaning. They act as if they are above you. It's ridiculous behavior, uncalled for and unethical. Massage therapy program is a waste. The teacher won't teach anatomy in class you study on your own and hand in a packet . You practice massage and he basically only likes you if you can massage him. He sits there and walks in and out of class with no real involvement. It's horrible. The only thing you need to pass is hours. As long as you do them you can get your certificate. No exam is needed so honestly you won't learn much. But at least you'll have a certificate. I came here and had to leave because I realized I wasn't going to learn anything. I want to know what I'm doing. So after a month I left and they still took the financial aid. All they care about is money. So protect yourself and learn and study don't expect them to be concerned about your education or be honest they just care about there paycheck. read more

Downey Adult School was a great place for me. I studied Clinical Medical Assistant. I completed my program in June 2023. Mr. V. was my instructor along Ms. Julie. Mr. V is a knowledgeable, experienced instructor. Mr. V method of teaching is clear and to the point, he covers a lot of materials in class and lab. I have to write that everything Mr. V taught us in class, especially the laboratory training, is exactly what I do at work. I appreciate his recommendations. I also want to thank Ms. Julie who is a fantastic assistant, I learned so much from her and appreciate her help. After I got my certificate, I found a job opportunity that provided me with enough experience. I am now working as a full-time M A at a Hospital in Torrance assisting Internists and Orthopedics. Interestingly, I draw a lot of blood, in my current job for all the various testing, and prepare a lot of PRP for injections for the Ortho. I was told from day one that my phlebotomy skills are great, I told them I learned with the best!!! read more

I don't recommend this school because they don't want to do any paper work to make things easier on their students they'll put you where ever for extern ships, the NCCT test that you have to take when you finish a program that test 9/10 will have questions you didn't learn in class my instructor taught the class something that was very important that was going to be on the NCCT one time , only went over it once didn't get no homework on it or nothing this school basically takes all your money and your not even granted that you wills pass this program because the way they teach you here Isn't the proper way I went to a different medical school and it was a much better experience I learned more information then I did at Downey adult school and passed and got my degree . read more

Trashiest school ever, after you finish the program Mr. page told me to go look on indeed and Caljobs online to find a job myself! I attend Ms. Nini's program, they will not help you find a job and they dont have any training or ways to deal with pandemic either, they dont give a shXXt about you when you cant find a job during pandemic, Ms. Nini promises you over and over in class that she will follow up with you after you finish the program, she never did, and there's race discrimination. This review only pertains to the phlebotomy technician training program... I would rarely this, as I think that bashing on the internet is classless and many times unwarranted, but...THEIR PHLEBOTOMY TECHNICIAN PROGRAM SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!! Again, I can only speak of my experience for the phlebotomy technician training program. There are many other health care programs as well as other vocational programs and classes. In short, the instructor (Joey Tran) was a nice guy. He seems to have a lot of experience in the field. I don't think we were prepared for the national exam the way we should have been. I don't know if that was his fault or the schools for not providing the proper curriculum. We practiced on each other plenty. A lot of times everyone was just sitting around socializing. I noticed only a few students on their A game. Every one else seemed clueless or nervous. That's each individuals responsibility I guess. The program was pretty lax. We came in late, got out early, lazed around. It's not medical school, it's just a vocational program so set your standards LOW. After the classes are over, you're assigned to your externship. This is where my real nightmare began. DAS did not provide me with the proper forms to take to my externship. I showed up to my externship site so unprepared and subsequently embarrassed because I didn't have ANY of the forms they were requesting. Also, after my externship was over, it took FOREVER and a day to get my damn certificate of completion! (please note that you do NOT need your certificate to register for the national exam! Anyone can register for the exam! It's when you pass the exam and send for your license that you'll need paperwork). The secretary for the Health Occupations Division is always out sick, takes forever to return phone calls, and is just a headache to deal with. I didn't receive any guidance as far as how to register for the national exam, nor did I get any study guides or follow up. It's almost as if they want to collect their check, and leave you on your own to find out everything. Very disappointed in this program. It may be the lowest in cost in the area, but if you're looking into this school for any health program, I suggest you ask them how much assistance you'll receive upon completion of the program! I called on the phone and spoke to a very nice man in regards to enrolling my mom into beginners English class and I decided to come in with her after he said they are currently enrolling. We Came in and were acknowledged by Elizabeth who asked what we needed. I explained we were there to enroll my mom into beginners English class. She then asked my mom.... In English... you don't speak any English? At all? Have you ever been here? Her tone and facial expressions were very demeaning and embarrassing because the other employees were looking at us. I proceeded to ask my mom in Spanish if she had ever came in and she said no. After, Elizabeth proceeded to point at the clipboard where the form was to fill out. My mom is in her 60's and her eyesight is bad so I decided to help her out and fill it out.... Elizabeth decided to tell me while sitting at her desk to where I was sitting that she should be filling it out herself... so I explained that she didn't have her glasses with her and that I would fill the form, she didn't say anything but her silence said a lot. Once the form was filled we went up to her, she at that point got a phone call so we waited. Once she was done with the phone call or placed it on hold she walked away leaving us just standing there... she could have said please give me a moment I will be right back... some type of acknowledgement. Thankfully Alex a few minutes later asked if he could be of assistance so we walked to his desk and he took over. He was very kind and professional. Once were done enrolling my mom, getting her picture and ID I asked him for the ladies name. I was very disappointment by her engagement that I forgot to ask for his name but it's on the paperwork so thank you Alex for your help! read more

I started going to their Downey Adult Transition school program class (which is for students with disabilities, I'm mildly autistic) back in 2012 upon graduating Downey High, and OMG I hated and detested it so much!!! I wish I was never in Downey Adult Transition!!! I wish to invent a time machine, travel back in time, do the missed opportunities I missed out on in Downey High, and decided to attend college upon graduating high school instead of this stupid, ridiculous, immature, horrible, embarrassing, childish, and annoying school program!!!!! (talk about how life would be in a parallel universe) Argh!!! I also wish the Downey Adult Transition school program classes would have their class buildings bulldozed and torn down!!! That's right, freedom to me and down with Downey Adult Transition!!! That's how much I hate and detest that school program. It should be the next program to be shut down! Not only that, I even took an American Sign Language class at the Downey Adult School campus and that ASL teacher named Mrs. Hayes was an unreliable teacher, my god!!! Accordingly, as you can tell, I more likely fit very well, more perfect, and appropriate with the students who went from classroom to classroom in high school, and even college students. I absolutely do not belong to Downey Adult Transition and I do not belong to the special ed program in high school! There's absolutely no reason or excuse for me to be in both of these programs that I just mentioned. It really doesn't make any sense. It's ridiculous and embarrassing nonsense! P.S. No disrespect to disabled people. It's just that all I'm saying is I really feel sorry for myself because I definitely deserve better than being in that abomination and atrocity as well as the special ed program in high school. Hands down for Downey Adult School! I was fortunate to have Financial Aid cover the cost of my Billing and Coding Specialist course. I did pay for my books. But be aware in the orientation they are going to tell you, you need books A through Z. What they don't tell you is that you don't need to buy them all at the same time. Some of us I know bought all the books. This program works by module, meaning you start wherever you land out of 6 classes. Anatomy and medical terminology, insurances, CPT, ICD-10, EHR ETC. The campus staff is so great. Mr.Scott, Victor, and Mr. Page all seem to want the best for you. They all make a great team. My instructor was Ms. Nini and she knows her stuff. enjoyable. She has a wealth of knowledge and simply made the course enjoyable. I feel like a reborn person after I took the course. I've gained so much knowledge from this school. My intention is to learn the medical field and pass my CPC exam. This course will teach you the fundamentals of using the CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 books, but how far you want to advance in the field is entirely up to you. I highly recommend this school, especially when they have a flexible schedule. I am grateful for this program and the school! read more

I enrolled in the 830 to 5 medical assistant class and what a BIG regret! First of all it's overpriced at $4k, uniform and one book is NOT included. FYI: community colleges offer phlebotomy and MA for half the price now. Classes begin every two weeks and that's cause they combined the new students with the students that have one/two weeks left to graduate and you learn from them. I signed up for full time but we were only on zoom for 2 to 3 hours?? The instructor Mr. Morales is always just talking about himself and does not ever get off his chair. No structure or leadership what so ever. Here is the best part, it does not matter how many orientations you attend they always have the same amount of seats available. I have to agree with the other reviews this program is a SCAM, big joke and a waste of time! Do NOT believe the 5 star reviews on their website it's BS! read more

Horrible office staff! The office staff is just horrible! They can't seem to answer simple questions. When you call to ask questions about any of the classes they offer, the staff doesn't understand how to answer them. Even if you ask specific questions, the answer is always the same, " Oh you want to know about the ___ class, I will give you information about that." Then they just read straight from the Downey Adult School catalogue. I can read myself so I don't need you to read it for me. You guys need to learn how to listen to people and gain some basic secretarial skills. My goodness, I have never seen this level of outrageous incompetence in my life. I am currently in the paralegal program. It is completely online and very well structured. For the price and time involved I am impressed. My instructor is very helpful and I really like how she runs the class. I highly recommend the program. Overall, the quality of the program I am in is outstanding. The reason for the two stars: The financial aid practices of this school are highly deceptive. Seven weeks after starting school I finally recieved my award letter from them. It stated that my aid would be given in two disbursements between the semesters. They would be in equal amounts. No where in the letter did it say that the amount in the letter would be substantially less than what would actually be given. This school at no time explained the financial aid process. Anytime I came into the office I was given the run around. They often talked down to me. For a school that relies so heavily on fafsa, they really treat the students that bring that fafsa to them poorly. I wish their financial aid department was of the same quality as their program. If you decide to go here and are going to be using fafsa, know that they are not straightforward and they put their priorities on things other than their students in the financial aid department. read more

I took the MA / phlebotomy combo class , and it was the best thing I've ever done , everyone at this school is very kind and genuine . And tbh if you have a bad experience I'd say to check yourself before you check them. I never had any issues . It is NOT their job to find a job for you .their job is to teach you, how you learn is all up to you . There is alot of work but it's all worth it . Finding a job is on You. This review is for the beginners sewing class offered by Lina Ibarra. I had a wonderful experience! I've had a beginner sewing machine for years not knowing how to really use it. Lina teaches you basics about your sewing machine and encourages you to practice to get to know your machine. She also has three projects you work on in class. You can also bring in your own project to work on. My only complaint is although she tried her best to help everyone out, because students have different machines and knowledge is at different levels I felt like i didn't get enough one on one. I believe she is restructuring her class for next semester though. If you've always wanted to learn to sew, I recommend Lina! She is awesome, the 7-8 weeks went by so quick. After taking this class I feel more confident in starting my own project. read more

I used to go to Bryan College. NOT THE UNIVERSITY for the court reporting class and I plateau'd at 100-120 where the teacher was not helpful, she read at an even faster speed which wasn't 100-120 and didn't know how to pronounce "error". In the 7 days I tried Downey, I passed onto 140 in DAYS. YES, I'm not lying. I like how helpful the teachers are. It's all about the writing here. You write, get TONS of speedtests per day and then do your work and go home. There's no grades based on attendence (it's a whooping 50 miles one way drive for me so I can't be there everyday) and A LOT CHEAPER. There also isn't petty people talking crap behind your back because you passed out of speeds. Everyone is awesome and this is how a court reporting school should be run. read more

A review about the Notary seminar: I came here in October to take the Notary Public seminar. The class was pretty much like any other course you could take about legal things... not all that exciting, but instructor Danny Perez did a good job with the presentation. He seemed to be a little spacy with his facts from time to time, but once he had a chance to think about it he'd give you a correct answer. No big deal, really. The state examination happened on site, about an hour or so after class. That time, combined with the lunch break provided plenty of time to study. The test is only 30 something questions, so you can't miss very many. Bottom line: it's a good value for your money. Perez did genuinely show that he cared for his students. I had a question in class that he wasn't sure of the answer to, so he actually called me a day or two later to tell me the answer. I thought that was pretty sincere. I'm now a working Notary Public for the State of California and it's paying off! read more

I really enjoyed coming to Downey Adult school In 2011 for the GED prep classes, the teacher was very helpful and nice. I passed the exam and received my GED in the mail within a week! The only problem i had was with some of the office clerks there. They're un-proffesional, I heard a clerk make a remark about my brother and i snapped, sorry but you can't sit there and watch you tube videos while you're attending students and on top of that make an ignorent comment. Anyway, I went back this year to take the LVN entrance exam but i didnt get it. Out of about 300 students they only accept 30. p.s The GED counselor named Bryan was very helpful and cool. read more
