I called these thieves yesterday to get a quote on what they were paying for a pound of aluminum…read morecans. The man I talked to said thirty-five cents a pound. I repeated back to him thirty-five cents? He said yes. So I went there today, had to cut open all my bags of cans, and help a worker dump my bags into their bags, and then help him lift several of their bags onto a cart to waddle over to their scale for weigh-in. The scale weight display was behind an Employees Only door, so I had to take their word on what my cans weighed. The boss-man came out from behind the EO door and handed me my money, and a receipt. He explained the figures on the receipt, at which point I noticed he only paid me twenty-five cents a pound. We went back and forth over what he told me over the phone, versus what he said he told me. I gave up, took my cash, and told him to have a nice day. I'll never go back, and I hope this saves someone else from being taken by these thieves.

I really didn't expect much, and I wasn't sure what to expect when I arrived. An older man who could have easily doubled as any of my childhood friends' tio or abuelo asked if I needed help, and I showed him what I had. I waited for about 5-10 minutes for him to determine if my stuff was indeed scrap metal, and it was. In that transaction, I made about 50 cents! Ha! I signed the receipt and carried on with the rest of my day. On the positive side, I wasn't expecting anything in return, yet I feel better knowing those door knobs and knives had a new future as they are melted down into other items than going to the dump. A few stars off because the parking lot is crazy small and the place is organized chaos, yet if you need a nondescript neighborhood metal recycler, this is your place.

If you have a lot of metal when you first enter you will stick to your right because you will drive over the area that says " Truck Scale" they will prompt you when to move onto the scale. They weigh your truck and by looking right they give you a green light to go ahead. After you get the green light you drive towards the back where you unload all your metal. Once your done you will go back to the truck scale and weigh your truck without the metal. After your done you will park anywhere get off and stand in line at the cashier so they can give you a check for the amount of your metal. Now if you selling cans/ scrap stuff that isn't as large you' would drive in get off and then get asstaince that way but since we had large metal pieces our process was different. It is a crazy little process but nonetheless an experience to understand.

However on the non- ferrous materials, they do give a competitive price, and although I haven't been down there in about 1 year, I used to go there mainly because they close at 5:30pm and Northwest Recycling would close at 5pm so of I missed the deadline, i knew could take the highway down here off Colorado St. (very convenient hours) and friendly and efficient staff, as well.
