It happened so quickly I didn't have a chance to check-in. We had some old gasoline for years that began to worry me. I researched where to legally dispose of gasoline and found this facility on Culebra. You have to bring a copy of your CPS bill to show you are paying the environmental fee. We are. Otherwise, I believe there is a charge. The facility is just east of 410 on Culebra. Drive up, the attendant asks what you have. Show him your CPS bill. He takes the waste and you leave. Didn't take 5 minutes! If you consider this a downside, they keep the gasoline containers. I don't. So glad to be rid of that gasoline. Go there. read more

After collecting a number of batteries in plastic bags over the years, it was time to find a place to recycle them. It's unfortunate that household batteries cannot be placed in the normal weekly recycle pickup like many other cities. After looking online at the Solid Waste Management website, I found there is only one place the city offers. It is the Hazardous Waste Disposal Drop Off Center, but is only open Fridays from 7AM-4PM, and Saturdays from 8AM to 3PM. When you go be sure to take a recent copy of your CPS bill an ID. It's right inside Loop 410 off Culebra, and is basically a drive thru drop off (really convenient). I just rolled down my window to show ID and CPS bill and they took the gigantic bag of batteries. There is a list on the website of all the different items that can be recycled. During the year they offer seasonal drop offs, but this is the only permanent one. read more

The number to call is 512-974-4343. On my visit I brought all kinds of paint, fuel additive, cleaning agents, lubricants, and pesticides. To be honest, I thought they were going to charge me something for this collection of environmentally damaging products, but I offloaded everything onto their carts in a matter of minutes and was on my way.
