I had an emergency appointment with a new dentist at 10 AM. He referred me to Dr. Abe's office for oral surgery. Dr. Abe saw me at 1 o'clock the same day for a check up and consultation and scheduled the surgery. Everyone in the office was exceptionally caring and professional. I was referred to Dr. Abe from an emergency dentist for wisdom tooth extraction after an infection. From my first visit, she was extremely cold and rushed through the appointment, leaving almost no time for questions. Any I did ask were met with very short answers and no explanations. After having all four wisdom teeth removed, I had severe pain by day three and asked to be seen. The receptionist was kind and got me in right away, but Dr. Abe barely looked at me, truly less than 20 seconds, before saying, "Pain is normal, you're fine." When I asked, "So is it healing okay? It's not infected or anything? It looks normal?" she said, "Well I don't know, I can't see anything back there. But stop worrying, this is normal, you are fine." She prescribed a steroid and told me to use my syringe to clean the sockets, saying stuck food was causing the pain. That was only about 50 hours after surgery. Another dentist later told me this terrible advice is what caused my dry socket, since I followed all aftercare instructions exactly. You should never use a syringe on a forming blood clot that soon. I washed mine out because she told me to. When I called back days later in extreme pain, they couldn't get me in. I called Dr. Abe directly, and she again said I was fine. I ended up going to the ER the night before my follow-up because the pain was unbearable. At the next appointment, she looked in my mouth for maybe 10 seconds and told me I had dry socket. I started crying out of frustration, asking if there was anything she could do to help. She stood back, pulled her glasses down, and said, "I don't know what you expect me to do for you right now." When I asked for more pain meds, she refused and told me ibuprofen would be fine... ibuprofen for DRY SOCKET. I've never asked for pain medication in my life and was in agony, hence needing to go to the literal ER for this pain. I left in tears and went straight to another dentist, who was shocked at her treatment and surgical care. They repacked the socket more carefully, gave me proper aftercare instructions, and I immediately began to feel better. The emergency dentist who referred me was furious when he heard what happened and couldn't reach her. If your procedure is simple, maybe you'll be fine. But if you're anxious, have questions, or experience any complication, you could not be in worse hands. Dr. Abe caused the most physically and mentally exhausting 10 days of my life - do NOT go here. read more

I was referred to Dr Abe by my primary dentist. My tooth broke below the gum line and I needed to have a specialist remove the tooth. I waited in the chair for more than 2 hours but finally had the tooth removed and I was prepped for an implant. During the 2 hour wait, my insurance was being checked. I agreed to the implant because my insurance supposedly would cover it. I signed the agreement that payment was my responsibility. I questioned the statement on the agreement that said, "we advise preauthorizations to determine limitations of your plan." I was told that preauthorizations can take weeks to months to be approved and since my insurance mostly covered the implant I should probably go ahead and have the implant prep work done today. I should have waited. My insurance doesn't cover implants. Now, I have a $1,200 bill and an obvious missing tooth. To add insult to injury (yes, the bone graft was incredibly painful for 2 weeks) when I went back in for phase 2 (apparently there are 3 phases) of the implant, immediately the clinician took me back for another scan that my insurance doesn't cover $205. So that padded the bill even more. At this point they told me I owed them $1,747 and asked if I would like to continue with the implant procedures. Had I known the insurance didn't cover this scan, I wouldn't have done it nor any of phase 1 of the implant procedures. I finally talked to their business office. Needless to say I am very disappointed in the insurance billing. I was told it was the software and someone who entered my insurance incorrectly. They brought the amount down to $1,201 but actually that is the insurance adjusted amount. I will have to pay another $4,000 to have the job done. I am disappointed. Would not recommend for a wisdom tooth removal. VERY unprofessional telling a patient to stop crying and disrespect the patient as they are in pain. What type of dentist is allowed to disrespect their clients and have the assistant be the nice one and stand up for them. Dr. Abe and her staff did a "Hack" job on my wife on 2/5/2018. My wife went in for a full tooth extraction, due to tooth decay of a pain medication my wife had taken for 12 years. My wife also suffers a "Wasting Disease" that makes it hard for her to retain her weight. Add me her African American dreadlock, husband and you have a recipe for people to make "Assumptions". Also I've been told by another Doctor, That "Price Gauging" practises done to patients who receive Medicaid or Medicare,or local health care. Is done very often. Sadly in my wife's case, Dr. Abe clearly assumed due to my wife's (low body weight, decaying teeth, and black husband), that she had to be a "Addict". So with this assumption despite she was removing 22 teeth. In her wisdom she chose to use ketamine instead of Propofol. Then during the procedure my wife woke up,stood up and started waving her hands clearly disoriented. Instead of asking for my assistance, 1 of her assistants forced my wife back in the chair and "Straddle" my wife so hard, her ribs were sore and bruised. Then due to her not using the proper agent to put my wife to sleep. She decided to sew up the left over bits of bone, and spurs protruding out of her upper and bottom gums. When the nurse brought her out they told me the list on rinsing etc, buy nothing about not getting all the teeth out, and briefly mentioned her waking up. The Uncompassionate Dr. Abe wrote my wife "18" 5ml Vicodin. Not even the amount of teeth she pulled. 3 days later my wife looks like a chipmunk who got beat up by "Mike Tyson" due to the black circles my wife had under her eyes. I swear I thought they took turns beating on her. 6 days later my wife is in excruciating pain because every 20 minutes she's pulling bits and pieces of bone out of her gums. She calls to speak to Dr. Abe for more pain meds, and shes told she has to come in. She comes in the next day, and writes her "12" pain meds. 13 days later my wife is still in pain and now large bone fragments are visibly showing through her gums. By this time I had "Verbally" shown my concern on a review and felt if my wife had better insurance my wife would had been treated better. You'd think normally when someone is about to take 22 teeth out of your wife's mouth, or after the fact you'd l meet the dentist. Instead I was told by Dr. Abe's,staff that Dr. Abe, did not tolerate racial slurs, I laughed because I knew I had the constitutional right to voice my opinion. Then oddly 15 days after the surgery, out of the blue, Dr.Abe writes my wife a script of 13 pain meds without my wife asking or calling. Seeing how we don't have a car and use medical transportation, the doctor or clinic has to tell the company that yes they need to see the patient. If Dr. Abe,had done this my wife would have been able to get a "Pharmacy Stop". Well do to my bad review Dr. Abe said she would not tell transportation she needed to see my wife. Sadly 24 days after the surgery we learned that Dentist like her have, "Tork Laws" that protect them from "Mal-practise" basically Like a hidden "Arbitrary Agreement". Meaning these doctors can screw your mouth up,double charge Medicaid, and not do a good job. 30 days after surgery, Dr. Abe, never once call my wife or me. She has a degree in "Dentistry but no degree in Compassion". If you have Medicaid or Oregon Health care,don't choose Dr. Abe. You'd be better to use pliers and some floss. So I was SUPER nervous about getting my wisdom teeth out... So nervous that I went in the day of my surgery with just some nitrous oxide and Dr. Abe numbed me up and I started freaking out thinking I couldn't swallow (obviously I was fine) but I couldn't calm myself down. So I left crying and aplgozing cause I felt terrible and had to reschedule for another time to be put to sleep to get it done.. Dr.Abe's staff was super sweet. Anyways so a month later I come in and get it done. I obviously don't remember much of the visit as I was out.. But I literally had barely any pain. I never needed my pain meds. I took some ibprofuen for the first two days then I was just a little sore. I followed her aftercare instructions very carefully and it's now been a little over a week since I got the surgery and I am healing great! Also I have had a few things I needed to call back for and Krystal is so helpful and sweet. Overall this place is great with kind staff and a quick/efficient Dr. Abe! I cannot praise Dr. Abe and her wonderful team enough (special shout out to Crystal!). My husband was experiencing severe tooth pain and needed an emergency extraction. We were unable to get to his usual dentist, so I called them as the nearest to our home. The staff were so helpful and they stayed after hours to get the tooth out and to relieve the pain so he didn't have to wait two more days. Records were transferred, insurance was called, and we were in-and- out in only a couple hours. Everything was handled so quickly and smoothly. They are also just the nicest and a joy to be around. I'm not a big fan of dentists at all. Or of needles. In fact I faint occasionally during shots. The sound of the drill whirring in your teeth& mixing up all your perceptions, the poking &prodding with the cold, metal picks, &the bright light blinding your eyes during the each examination. It's horrible. So the day when I decided to pull out, no EXTRACT (it sounds less painful) my wisdom teeth was a momentous one. I had delayed it for years and years, due to various excuses like school and lack of time... but enough was enough! I was recommended by my dentist in portland, who I had only known briefly though my coworker's recommendation and one teeth cleaning, to go to Dr. Abe, an oral surgeon for my surgery. I played the trust game quite a bit there. Dr. Abe did a good job. Things her office did right& that I greatly appreciate: 1) Making sure I picked up my painkillers and antibiotics before the surgery 2) Reminding me of my appointments the day before 3) Having a "what to do and not to do" after a wisdom teeth extraction list in my gauze, syringe, and goodies pack post surgery. 4) Giving me a good overview of where the nerves in my mouth were and the various options for sedation. 5) Putting a blanket over me during the surgery because I was getting cold. My experience wasn't so bad. I chose nitrous oxide and oral sedation (Valium yumm) so I wasn't completely asleep, but I didn't feel too much poking either. I did dream about a small man pulling at the side of my mouth and hearing Dr. Abe say "that's good" and "good job" over and over while my music was on. That and my music was amplified. My cheeks were also swollen for a few days, I had a slight headache, and I couldn't chew or laugh for 2 days. VICODIN TO THE RESCUE The only con is that she requires sedation if you want her to extract your wisdom teeth. And many insurance companies won't cover sedation. Nitrous oxide is the cheapest option but that still cost me $250. IV-ing it is $400-$800 depending on the concentration. I can't really compare her operation to any other experience in my life so reviews like this are usually either a hit or miss. But if I thought about the whole thing more critically, I would give her a 4.5 because she didn't give me tinted goggles, a free toothbrush, and a "well done" sticker. read more

I'm 14 weeks pregnant and to say that I was anxious about wisdom tooth extractions is an understatement. I'm very good with pain and needles, however I had a ridiculously awful experience in the past where I got a bottom molar extracted during my first pregnancy. I told myself that I'd never get an extraction done while awake, ever again. Little did I know that apparently every time I'm pregnant, I require teeth pulling. Hopefully a tradition that doesn't continue. When I did my consultation, Dr. Abe was very clear on what needed to be done, leaving no questions or concerns when I left. I already felt a little better about the actual extractions. They also worked with me on my out-of-pocket pay. They were not a PPO provider under my network so my insurance did not cover the 80% that they would have. The office worked with me on this and I appreciate it very much. I just completed my extractions today. I'm one of those special people who have 4 main wisdom teeth and then 2 extra wisdom teeth by the sides of my top 2 main ones. Yaaaay me, 6 extra teeth, woot woot. (Insert sarcasm). 3 of my upper wisdom teeth needed to be pulled, it was seamless. I was in-and-out in about an hour. Dr. Abe was very gentle and informative on everything she was about to do. She responded well when I made noises, meaning that I needed more numbing. Her assistants were very friendly and helped to ease my anxiety. I got a blanket and a pillow to prop my body in a safe way for my pregnancy, they also kept tabs on my blood pressure and heart rate. Before you knew it, I was getting stitched up and given at home recovery directions. Dr. Abe and her staff made me feel safe coming here not only pregnant but also after having a nightmare experience from my past awake extraction. This surgery couldn't have gone any smoother than it did and I am so ecstatic about that. I was referred to Dr. Abe by a friend who had 4 impacted wisdom teeth removed -- she sent glowing feedback to me. I now understand why and will do the same! I couldn't recommend Dr. Abe enough to anyone needing a skilled, perfectionist oral surgeon. I thank them a million times over. ***** UPDATE on recovery - no issues whatsoever!!! I only took 2 regular tylenols for the pain. Dr. Abe did such a great job on the extractions that a pregnant woman with slowed healing capabilities had no issues of swelling, dry socket or pain. I had a bit of anxiety about the procedure but I am pleased to say I would recommend this dental office from start to finish. From consultation, to scheduling, all the way through the procedure, the professionals who work here were incredibly caring, accommodating and thorough. The facility is clean and comfortable. Worst experience ever having any dental work done!!And I am 64 years old so I have had my share. I did not even let them finish because they were so rough and barbaric with me. I swear when the doctor tried to do an injection in the roof of my mouth she rammed the needle into my skull. I nearly choked to death on all of the nasty crap that was running down my throat because the assistant did not know how to use the suction tube. I was laying flat on my back and she was sticking the tube somewhere up in my cheek instead of in the back of my throat where everything was running to. The cannula thing they put over your nose for the NOS was so old and hard it was bruising the bridge of my nose and pulling hard to one side, hurting me. I literally had to fight the assistant who was supposed to be making me comfortable in order to make a small adjustment to that thing. She kept grabbing my hand and shoving it down, after I made them stop everything so I could leave, she said she was concerned because the doctor had a needle in my mouth. I was not even trying to reach my mouth, But because she would not use the suction tube properly I could not speak to explain the problem,, and they were not concerned enough about my blatantly obvious distress, to pause for a moment to figure out what my problem was. The face mask the doctor was wearing which was meant to be a disposable mask looked like she had been using it for two or three months, (at least) supposed to be white, it was gray around the edges. The entire office including the dental tools looked as though I had stepped back in time 30 to 40 years. I asked for the dark glasses at least three times because the light was so incredibly bright even with my eyes closed it was uncomfortable. The assistant told me they had some but instead, very haphazardly literally, "shoved" some clear ones on my face and when I tried to adjust them she told me, "don't do that"! I could go on,, but I think the fact I literally forced them to stop the procedure and left the place to step back into the 21st-century says as much as needs to be said! read more

Getting my wisdom teeth out is probably one of my least favorite experiences of my life, so far. The care I received from Dr. Abe's office was incredible and I will certainly refer them to any of my friends that may need oral surgery. Each time I came in the staff was so friendly, they remembered my name and what my plans were from previous visits. "How was Oregon Country Fair??" They would ask and my mind would be blown that they had remembered I had mentioned that from weeks prior. (Talking about follow up visits a plenty to make sure you're a-okay!) They sent me flowers after my surgery and gave me follow up calls to make sure I was doing okay. First of all, they were professional and thorough on the phone in assessing my needs. On the day of my procedure, I arrived a bit too early as I had been concerned about traffic, and I was welcomed in and treated kindly. I enjoyed getting to know everyone, and they seemed to genuinely reciprocate. When I returned later for my Post-op check up, I found out that this was a genuine reflection of the quality of people working at Abe Dental. They remembered details of our earlier conversations, and greeted me as dear friend. My pre-op examination went flawlessly, and all of my concerns were addressed. Dr. Abe has a fantastic manner, and is both frank and reassuring. These are characteristics I personally appreciate in medical professionals. The procedure itself was swift and efficient, concluding without incident. It could not have gone better. I was prescribed painkillers that I did not even need. I had absolutely none of the possible negative effects beyond a bit of bleeding as expected during the first 24 hours following surgery. That's right, no swelling, no pain, no trouble eating and no infection. The next day I went to work following surgery, I was greeting with flowers and a balloon, accompanied by the nicest note from the Abe Dental team. It was quite the surprise, and I am quite honestly still in shock! I mean, really, who gets flowers from their Dentist? Seriously? I can't stop telling my friends and coworkers about it! The staff and dr. Abe were very clear and informative and very kind. They even held my hand through the process when I got nervous. I also was in a bit of a financial pickle and they were very nice and worked with me to make sure I could afford the care. I really appreciate that. And lastly their prices are more than reasonable. I have literally nothing bad to say. I emailed the office over the weekend hoping I could get in for a consult and extraction Monday morning. Of all the offices I emailed, Dr abe was the only one who responded (on the weekend) and was able to squeeze me in. Recovery has been very easy. Dr. Abe and her team were nothing but spectacular with me. I got my wisdom teeth removed yesterday and they were so patient with me through my nerves and tears when I got too scared. The staff was knowledgeable and clear with their instructions. Dr. Abe made sure to list all possible risks and while to some that may not be very comforting, I knew it all came from a good place and it was good to know everything that could possibly happen. Dr. Abe and her team were diligent, thorough, friendly and supportive even after the 15 month delay of my consultation and the actual removal. After my procedure, my caretaker took a while to get back to the office post surgery so they moved me to a room i'd be comfortable in and put on a TV show of my choice from Netflix (I chose The Office). They helped me into the car after my surgery and sent me off just as nicely as they welcomed me in. I could not recommend a better oral surgeon and practice to go to. I even got a call today, only a day after my surgery, that I had a floral delivery. I got down to my lobby and I had received a beautiful arrangement from Dr. Abe. This was an amazing experience. After a visit with my general dentist, he expressed to me that I MUST get my wisdom teeth extracted. He referred me to an oral surgeon that he works with. When I contacted them for a consultation we set up an appointment for me to come get things squared away. When I got there it was like I had walked into the gates of Mordor. I felt as though I was going to be thrown down a well and that this doctor was going to give me the hose if I didn't put the lotion on my skin. I quickly packed my things and walked out the door. I sat in the parking lot for hours on yelp and google. I finally found a place where the photos and reviews put my anxiety at ease. I quickly called to set up a consultation. When I arrived I was greeted by a sweet young woman who was very helpful. She assured me that they could help me with my insurance and make something work that fit my budget. And the best part? The office was very clean and very comfortable. I felt like this was going to be the team that removes my wisdom teeth. Mainly because they offer deep IV sedation; the other practice wanted to give me a couple xanax and call it a day. Yeah right?! The day that my appointment arrived I was taken back to the operating room by the surgical technician. The Doctor came in and they began setting me up for my sedation. Here is the best part. Next thing I knew is that my teeth were out and the staff here was very friendly. I would highly recommend having your wisdom teeth extracted by no one other than Dr. Abe. She is a very intelligent woman. She and her staff made me feel very comfortable during my operation and during recovery. I am so glad I made the decision I did to go with this team. Dr. Abe lacks basic human communication skills. She has difficulty with anxious patients and offers drugs and sedation so she does not need to practice compassionate care. Post op was even worse. It has been over two weeks and I have followed her instructions precisely yet I am not healing. Upon my two week follow up she blamed me for not cleaning my mouth and offered no solutions to help heal. She does however has an incredibly compassionate and patient assistant Stacia who was remarkable during surgery. I would not have made it without her. I guess for those who want drugs and sedation Dr. Abe may do, but for those of us who do not want those interventions she lacks in warmth. It seems apparent that she chose surgery rather than general dentistry because she does not need to build relationships with her patients and only sees them briefly for extractions or implants. I would not recommend her if you are looking for an understanding, compassionate, and warm surgeon who can put your mind at ease, pre, during, and post op. If you want drugs and sedation she is your doc! I would also like to add that as a surgeon I DO NOT doubt her abilities at all! I'll start by saying I don't usually write reviews, but I had such a pleasant experience I feel I need to share. The staff was very friendly and made me feel safe and comfortable, I knew if chosen the right place. I usually have anxiety about this kind of thing but the reassuring words of Dr. Abe and her knowledgable staff relieved all of that. Dr. Abe was very gentle and efficient, once the nitrous kicked in it seemed like no time before the procedure was over and my broken tooth was gone. I relaxed in the waiting room while I waited for my ride and had pleasant conversation (although muffled by the gauze) with Leina at the front desk. Was referred there by my dentist. Yes they pulled my tooth, but after the fact I checked other oral surgeons and they definitely over charged for this service! I paid just under half of the cost that day, they were billing insurance for the rest. I had a follow up appointment set, that they cancelled on me, and never would set up a return visit. Then the kicker. 6 months later I get a collections notice that I still owe them over $100.00. When I contacted their office to find out what this was for, I was treated very very rudely, the "lady" that I spoke with was very short with me, and treated me terribly, saying that they have mailed a statement each month since January. 6 notices sent, and I didn't get any of them. I guess their phone wasn't working. So I paid my bill to the collection agency, since the "lady" I spoke with said she didn't want to talk to me anymore and I had to deal with them. Never in a million years would I go back there, nor would I ever refer anyone their way. If you want to be treated like dirt, go there! But if you want to be treated with the respect and dignity that every human deserves, STAY AWAY !!! read more

I needed my back right bottom tooth removed, my dentist refereed me to Abe Dental and I was able to get in the next morning. The staff was friendly and the place of business looked clean and professional. I asked them to check my insurance coverage for the procedure and they said it would be covered 100%. They then asked if I would like to use nitrous oxide for the procedure and I asked if it would be covered by my insurance and they said yes so I went for it. As it turns out my insurance did not cover the nitrous and is ended up being $95 out of my pocket. I defiantly would not have had them use it if I had known. As soon as I got the bill I called and they told me they had made a mistake but I would still have to pay. I did pay the bill but wanted to share my experience and advise anyone using this dental office check their insurance coverage for them selves and not to trust the information of the Abe Dental staff. The procedure went fine as well as the healing. Even though it wasn't a lot of money the visit left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I would not go back. read more

HOWEVER when we went in they told us out of the cost of $1000+ we would only have to co-pay $400 and our insurance (ODS) would cover the rest, So we paid them the amount. Two months later we receive a additional $600 bill for the reason that our insurance didn't pay them. After much calling and talking to them and the insurance company, we learned that Abe Dental is not a member of our insurance company so the insurance company wouldn't pay them. I've been to more than a dozen doctor offices and hospitals and dental services. Always the first thing they do when accepting new patient is checking insurance. How is it that Abe Dental does NOT know that it can't use our insurance? This is suspicious feel like a scam. We are not in a good enough economy right now to pay them an extra $600. If they let us know before hand we would have found a different dental office that would accept our insurance. Maybe that IS the reason why they hid that fact. We will NEVER go there again. And I do NOT recommend anyone go there. read more

Dr.Abe and her staff were wonderful. I had four wisdom teeth removed yesterday and I was very VERY nervous. It was my first procedure ever and first time being put under. The staff was very reassuring and they were there to answer any questions or concerns I had. I cannot be more pleased with how everything went. I have had minimal discomfort and have been able to go about the last two days with ease. Wisdom teeth removal will never be something easy to go through but I am so glad I found Abe Dental. I am so glad Dr. Abe was the surgeon to remove my wisdom teeth! I was so anxious about the procedure and dreaded it so much. First off, it was easy to get an appt. quickly. She was thorough in explaining what to expect and my choices and I went for IV sedation. She used laughing gas before putting the iv in and that was the last memory I had before waking up! I was concerned when she told me to use ibuprofen for recovery (with a couple opioids just in case) and I was so worried ibuprofen wouldn't touch it and that I'd be in agonizing pain. She was very patient with me and Im so impressed with the work she did, my cheeks never swelled up, I didn't get an infection, and I was never more than just a little sore. And that's with one impacted tooth right over a nerve, and two teeth with roots to the sinus. The best part? When I was the most miserable, the day of the procedure, She sent me flowers. I was referred to Dr. Abe last minute in an emergency of needing my wisdom teeth pulled after being in a lot of pain for over a week. Dr Abe and her staff were very accommodating and were able to fit me in right away. They made the sedation surgery very comforting even though I was very nervous and scared of sedation. Before I knew it, it was over and painless. The next day I received beautiful flowers at my door with a card wishing me a smooth recovery and I couldn't appreciate it more! I would give Dr. Abe 50 stars if I could! She was absolutely awesome! My son needed his wisdom teeth out rather urgently and she accomodated the urgency as expeditiously and professionally as we could've ever expected! He was seen for the initial evaluation/xrays quickly and she followed up with a phone call that night to see how he was feeling and to see if we had any questions or concerns. She performed the surgery with no complications, and took time to explain everything to us and to him. And, get this, she personally delivered a get-well bouquet of flowers to my son's home the next day! Now, that's bedside manner that you probably won't find anywhere unless you've just hired a physician that is hired to do house calls. You need to look no further if you're in need of an oral surgeon - I hope I've made the decision to seek treatment at Abe Dental a no-brainer!
