My friends and I decided to eat lunch at this place --- an apparently so did a lot of groups of people attending their respective reunions. For a place that was so busy, surprisingly, it wasn't too noisy and we were able to carry out a conversation. The staff was very attentive, and it seemed like we had multiple people serving us Like most groups, we dined family style. We shared everything that we ordered and every dish was scrumptious. Three of us reside overseas so we were all looking frward to authentic Filipino foods. This place rose to the occasion. The standout was the fish that was filleted and deep-fried, and spread out like a butterfly so it was easy to take a piece off. The fish was cooked perfectly, that is, it wasn't overcooked like most fried fish dishes would be. All of us asked for fresh buko (coconut) juice servied in a whole coconut. However, the coconut was no longer young coconut that usually has soft meat that we can spoon up. instead, it was more "niyog" or mature coconut that needed to be cut up which the staff did for us. read more

I've been to Abe a few times and I've never been disappointed. They offer traditional Philippine dishes, some being very familiar and some more exotic. On this visit I had the following items: - Crispy Tadyang - Bamboo Rice The Tadyang (fried short ribs) was incredible - tender, yet crispy and full of flavor. There's a nice portion of beef that arrives in the order, so it's very satisfying. The rice has an interesting flavor profile since it's mixed with spices and shrimp...it's definitely an interesting rice dish you won't find anywhere else. Abe has a huge menu that showcases the diversity in Philippine cuisine. The fact that it includes appetizers, salads, soups, mains, sides and desserts means you'll leave a very satisfied customer. Used to like Abe. But the food quality and flavor have gone down. Way done. The prices have understandably gone up but the portions have gone smaller. The pakbet had no flavor. Bland as boiled vegetables almost. The lechon was chewy and very dry. The desert took reminding to be served. I think they forgot it. Never again Abe. You are off my list. read more

A wonderful place to have Filipino cuisine that is not ordinary. They serve hard to find regional dishes. I had crisp perfectly fried stuffed crabs, sisig with a red hot pepper on top, baby squid (really tiny) sautéed, specially prepared rice cooked in bamboo (a must try), dare for some tiny fried crickets? Don't think about it. They are crunchy and eaten with garlic vinegar. Gising gising is Philippine spinach stalks minced and prepared with coconut milk is also very good. For dessert, the fried Suman which is a sticky rice dessert are served cut up in one inch then fried served with chocolate. It's like the Philippines' answer to Spanish churros. Claud Tayag's special dessert is like pandan Kelly with 2 or 3 pieces of young coconut on vanilla ice cream. You should have a reservation as it gets very full in the evening even on a Thursday night. read more

It felt good eating here dinner, the food is really good and the ambiance is relaxing, that's probably because we ate at around 10PM. It was a pleasant dinner, because we were able to eat what we were craving for and the taste that we are expecting was definitely met! The crispy tadyang is perfect! The meat is not too soft and not super chewy. I can taste the crispy-ness in every bite and then it was complimented by the spicy vinegar and the pickled papaya! That is something I'll definitely recommend. The lechon paksiw is OK too, there was not that much of a stand out except for the spicy sauce. The number of skin in the order is also not that much but this was a good partner with the steamy hot white rice! Overall this was a good experience. My son was so fond with their lemon iced tea, it's not your typical US brewed tea that's bland if sweetened it's too sweet. read more

Abe is one of those authentic Filipino restaurants that serve in my point of view real and legit pinoy food from all over the Philippines and not just the usual common commercialized ones. I always eat here when I have balikbayans in town or when some foreigner friends of mine want to give Filipino food a try. Most of them like it but there are some who will have to grow into it. The most basic Filipino food that we make them try are the Spicy Sisig Pampanga and Kinilaw na Tanigue for appetizers, Green Mango and Bagoong salad, Laing with Tinapa, Crispy Pork Adobo and the Crispy Tadyang. It feels like home cooked pinoy food but made better! They do have some more authentic pinoy food if you are willing to be a little daring like the Arobung Kamuru (rice field crickets in tomato sauce) and Betute (farm frogs stuffed with minced pork). Some enjoyed it but it wasn't a popular choice. read more

We were here at the end of January this year with my husband and his family during our one-week visit in the Philippines. Since this particular trip wasn't for the happiest of occasions (for the funeral of a deceased family member), it was a great temporary distraction when my parents-in-law decided to bring us to this fancy restaurant for lunch on the first day that we arrived to the Philippines. The restaurant is only about 25 minutes (without traffic) from the airport and located in the fanciest neighborhood in Manila, in its well-known business district where a lot of major corporations are situated. It is surrounded by other retail shops and the decor and setup reminded me of previous sites in California that I have visited. When we arrived, we experienced a bit of a wait time but we soon realized that the overall experience was well worth the wait. Pros: -You get to dine in a nice fancy and safe neighborhood with friendly staff that treats visitors like they are VIPs. I got to practice my Tagalog when conversing with our waiter and he encouraged and patiently interacted with me whose knowledge of the language is at amateur level. -The staff are patient at accommodating any special requests. For safety reasons, since my immune system is weak, I requested for no ice in my drink and they were really nice about it and actually listened. -You get to enjoy some unique specialty dishes on the menu, which you have never heard of before. We tried their whole roasted frog, which was delicious and almost tasted like chicken. Until this experience, I never thought frog was edible. -The food portions are family style, which allow you to order a variety of dishes that can be shared among a large group like us. This allowed me to eat light and take only small portions at a time rather than being overwhelmed with a large heavy entree. -The place is well-ventilated and our table area had a beautiful view of the outside. Cons: -Wait times are long, for those of you who lack patience. -Prices are on the expensive side as expected because of the restaurant's location. -Washrooms are singles rather than multiple stalls but they are very clean, fancy, and well-maintained. Overall, I had fun experiencing the fancy side of the Philippines at this restaurant. I personally would limit my visits here to special occasions only but that decision is solely based on my personal financial situation and has nothing to do with the quality and service of this restaurant. read more

I honestly don't always enjoy Filipino restaurants just because I know that I can easily have a better home cooked meal, and it took me and my family years before we tried out Abe. My lolo being Kapampangan, had much to compare their food to. Surprisingly, we all enjoyed it. First off, which I think is very important for me, service was excellent. The staff knew which food to recommend and were very quick in their service. They were all also very friendly. Food was fantastic! My family loves kinilaw and we really enjoyed tasting their Kinilaw na Tanigue for our appetizer. Their Sinigang has a twist as compared to our usual sinigang, which is probably I liked it more.Their take on the kapampangan dish, Morcon, is very good too. It's pretty near the usual morcon that I taste at home (which will probably make me biased?) A lot of people don't usually like goat adobo, but if you would like to try it, Abe is the place to do it. The usual after taste of goat doesn't really stick, which makes it a good choice for first time tasters. My favorite is their Crispy Tadyang just because that really is one of my favorite Filipino dishes. It was served to us nice and hot and perfectly cooked. Their chocolate fondue with Suman is so-so just because it is kind of weird to pair suman with chocolate, so I would recommend you try something else. Other than that, Abe is perfect if you're too lazy to cook and you're craving for Filipino food. read more

You might spend a lot of time deciding what to order, but from my experience, everything is delicious, just ask waiter about best sellers if it's your first time. MUST HAVE - fruit shakes, especially watermelon with ginger and Tamarind shake. I'm not picky when it comes to food and their "Chicken Adobado" was great. I preferred eating every bite of chicken together with a portion of the Mushrooms mixed with it. It still gives you the adobo taste but with the juicy mushroom lush. It could have been a 5 star if it wasn't for their service. We waited for a long time even though there were vacant seats inside that were empty for quite a while. They really sticked to their reservations which is why maybe give time allotment before coming here or have a reservation. read more

Hey are you looking for some good representation of a Filipino dishes, to bring all your friends who come from elsewhere that is not Philippines? Come bring them to Abe. Everything is good so feel free to order anything you like. They obviously have their best sellers, but it never hurt to randomly point your finger at the menu and be surprised at how good the dish is when it arrives. My current favorites (take note: current, as they are on rotate depending on what my palate feels as of the moment), would be the lamb adobo, squid ink pansit and gule magalang. I also keep on ordering the Sikreto ni Maria, for the taste and its name. I have yet to find a bad version of a Filipino food from them so i keep coming back to find one.but i haven't found it so far. Sigh. His paintings are good. Come before peak hours lest it would seem as if they have grown and caught and slaughtered the food before serving it. read more
