I'd heard about Locavore right before I left for my most recent trip to Manila and I'm glad I went since it did not disappoint. I had the Sizzling Sinigang and it was delicious - it arrived in a sizzling plate full of tender beef and various vegetables; everything was full of the tasty tamarind forward flavors. The Sinangag that I ordered with it was a perfect compliment. The restaurant doesn't really have amazing decor, but it does have the vibe of a gastropub...on a busy night, I'm sure it has a fun atmosphere. Service was nice and attentive. A not pretentious restaurant in BGC that manages to be quitley elegant. Prices for this part of town looks reasonable- I think- I'm just a tourist here. We got basically the appetizers. Different take on fresh lumpia rapper it was celluloid. We also had the fried one. The scallops are absolutely out of this world. The cheese is still soft and melts in your mouth. You could still taste the saltiness of the ocean in this scallop - amazing! The Kare Kare wings is subtle yet satisfying it can stand on its own without the dipping sauce - whatever it is though, like it Oyster with liver is OK. I can't really taste the oysters too much liver. The street food platter and Champorado Ni Speedy was fine although my daughter really loved the chocolate porridge. The fried chicken, pho, lumpia, an eggplant vegetable dish, some tapsilog, a bunch of other things (there was 5 of us) that I don't remember. While waiting for our appointment at a nearby clinic, we chanced upon Locavore on a Tuesday afternoon. It was slow as expected on a weekday. We were immediately greeted and were guided to a table right away. Service points, check. The inside were just typical seating, booths and tables. Very well ventilated especially in this heat. The menu is filipino themed but the dishes were revamped. Ever heard of sizzling sinigang? How about octopus adobo? Everything on the menu was so intriguing. Service and ambience in posh and trendy Forbes Town are on point. Food hit just off the mark for us after trying the fried lumpia and signature sizzling sinigang beef ribs . The short ribs were overly sour, every bite, we shared and couldn't get past that point. To their credit it might be the way that sinigang gravy just hits, but I found it odd that every bite to the end caused a face cringe. The lumpia wasn't crispy , altho it was beautifully presented, hut to make it less likable they tasted like smoked salmon. Fabulous location in the Burgos Circle. After trying a couple of appetizers from the menu, my husband and I decided not to order entrees due to the appetizers we tried being subpar - they lacked flavor altogether. To start, we ordered the street food sampler/platter and mango & singkamas with bagoong. Came here for a cousins dinner. We had a group of about 20. They took care of us well, especially for having such a large group. I loved the food. Lechon and oyster sisig- I thought it was going to be weird, but it was the complete opposite. My favorite dish. So much flavor with a good kick from the pepper. A MUST TRY! Crispy pata- The skin was so crispy and the meat so tender. The pork itself was so flavorful. Sizzling sinigang- I liked this concept of sinigang. I thought it was very interesting. The beef was very tender, and the vegetables were fresh. It's perfect for a more concentrated taste of the sinigang flavor without all the liquid from the soup. Sour, but not too sour. Kare kare wings- very peanut butter taste and on the sweet side. I thought it tasted more like Thai peanut sauce than kare kare sauce though. Vegan salad- it was really potatoey. I liked the texture and flavor although I don't remember what other flavors beside potato there was. I guess I was too eager to try all the meat. 12.31.18 New Year's Eve in the Philippines! This place was right outside of Conrad. So our friend took us here for dinner. It was absolutely delicious! One of the yummiest Filipino meal so far. The service was really good. The restaurant was pretty much fully booked except for the tall tables. But they were able to move us after confirming one of the party won't show up. I had the mango mojito! It was very mangolicious and there was another drink with the lime or lemon. It was also very good. As for food...drools. We ordered the the winged beans dish called gising gising, oxtail sisig, tiger pawns called the sugpo con mayonesa, boneless lechon belly, and two garlic rice lol We pretty much finished everything and super stuffed! Food is always a consistent 5 star experience. Unfortunately, some favorites were not available at the time of our last visit. Oyster sisig is still delicious but I did notice that the oyster were smaller than usual, perhaps seasonal? Sizzling sinigang and gising gising are always a hit. They are VERY good, but they are exactly what they appear to be. Wings tossed in Kare Kare sauce. Our mains included - Sizzling Sinigang: this surprisingly was my favorite dish of all. The meat was braised to perfection and had a gamey flavor. The sauce was sour like sinigang broth but the texture was like gravy. SO GOOD! - Lechon Oyster/Pork Belly Sisig: also another great creation! Sauce was amazing and the combination of meats worked well! - We ordered a dish that comprised of mixed veggies (totally forgot what it was called) and these were just to balance out the meal a little bit. We went there on a Wednesday night and true enough the place is still packed, so we queue outside and waited for 10 mins or so (lucky us). The staff are nice, they were able to cater to their customers needs efficiently, inspite of being fully packed (that night) our food came out fast and nice. We ordered the sizzling sinigang (I heard they are famous for this dish..and I totally agree! This is the bomb), garlic baby squid, gising-gising, sisig and the grilled oysters. The food is nice and as I said the Sinigang is the best, the rest are just fine nothing magnanimous. The serving is enough for 2 pax (per order) and if you have an appetite or cravings for a particular dish you can easily finish 1 order. Had to wait to be seated since the restaurant was busy. It was fine we were able to order before being seated. The hostess was very accommodating. The food was on point! I usually do family style when I go here with friends. We ordered the kare kare wings, a shrimp dish (sorry can't remember the name), garlic rice, sinigang but they make it differently and I think that's it. Every time I go to locavore I get the kare kare wings. They taste great and the portion is just right for 4 especially if you get other dishes. I was told this location isn't as good as the other one. However, I didn't really notice that much of a difference. If anything it is in a good location because it's in Burgos circle where there's other drinking spots that you can go to after eating here. I am always so full after a meal here. Service was good. Growing up, I would love to eat fish balls so seeing fish ball on the menu and kwek kwek on the menu in an elevated level just brings tears of joy. It's crispy, just right amount of batter on the quail eggs, and right amount of acidity to the vinegar to dip. 5 stars for that platter! Next is the house fried chicken. I've tried many and I've never had a chicken where the crunch was so pronounced I heard the next table's chicken crunch in their mouths! Now I gotta talk about the SAGO GULAMAN! OMFG it was AMAZING! The attention and presentation they put on a simple drink blew my mind away! i'm not gonna lie, I am not a very huge fan of Filipino food, but this food was pretty damn good. There was so many different types of foods here that I don't even remember what I tried LOL. But all I can say is that they were very flavorful and very interesting. If you're not used to foreign type foods the texture might make you feel a little bit weird, but don't worry, just think about the flavors LOL. Came back for another try of the much talked about Locavore, hailing from Kapitolyo and now in BGC. AMBIANCE 3.0 Interior is consistent with their original Kapitolyo branch, but with a large indoor seating capacity and divide into 2 parts, the bar area and the main dining area. Despite the large space, I still feel the place is tight and and geared towards bigger groups than dates or any group lesser than 4, if you must expect to be seated in between tables separated by a few inches or my preference the corner, but it maybe not as cool as the center directed ACs. FOOD 4.0 I read the reviews and most favoured the 2 dishes below. Lechon Oyster Sisig (380+ PHP) A staple order as mentioned by multiple reviewers, which lived most of the hype. Crispy and savoury, but for the size it may not be the most satisfying. Pakbet Ratatouille (270+ PHP) Sigarilyas (winged Bean), French beans, kalabasa (winter squash), okra, pickled ampalaya (thankful served on the side) ,zucchini, sliced eggplant, mushroom, peppers in bagoong (fermented fish or krill with salt) broth. I love the sauce and just the overall feel good feel of this simple well composed veggie dish. Their best-selling Sizzling Sinigang does not disappoint, it has that signature sourness plus the "tutong" of most sizzling dishes. My advice is to stock up on the rice when dining here as most dishes are hearty and flavorful. Prices are on the above average side, but worth it IMO. Ambiance is okay, dining here is best done in groups. Though I suggest coming early as to avoid the rush of people on peak hours.
