I have never had any type of injections done as I don't like needles and was concerned about the pain. I went to Abella Skin Spa with my friend that has had quite of few rounds of Botox and other fillers. I watched Melodie work on my friend and she was so caring and kind. Five star experience at Abella Salon and Spa! Here's the scoop....I went in for Botox (found on Groupon) and Juvaderm (this decision was made after Abella's owner, Melodie, stunned me with her knowledge of Juvaderm in addition to Botox). When I first pulled up, the building was nice but I didn't immediately think of a spa. However, once I went inside her office I was like "Wow, this is so super cute". Melodie was so professional that in preparation for my arrival, she left a flower pen and the Abella waiver for me to read and sign. First impressions are so important and she really wowed me! Melodie was extremely professional, greeting me, asking me all of the professional first time visit questions to learn about my prior botox experience. Furthermore, she actually knew more than my professional dermatologist because she recommended specific pre-treatment and items to avoid starting one week prior to having my lips injected with Juvaderm - and I knew from experience she was accurate due to a prior reaction. She asked me to schedule my Juvaderm appointment one week from my Botox appointment. Also, she called in a prescription for me. What really impressed me was that she provided two Juvaderm appointments so she could treat me with 3/4 Juvaderm and make sure my outcome was exactly what I wanted. More importantly, both botox and Juvaderm injections turned out extremely natural-looking, yet perfectly full and very attractive. I have had a lot of great compliments at work and by friends and family since my visit at Abella. Who knows? I called them 6 different times over 3 non-consecutive days. No one ever answered the phone; It was always a recording regardless of the time of day. I left messages and they never returned my call. I suspect the reason may be is that I made the mistake in my voice message and revealed that I had a question about their active Groupon. I'm sure businesses don't make money on their Groupons but, who knows? All I know is that experience has shown me that if a business never answers their phone and does not return calls, it is suspect. read more

I have been coming to Melodie a little over a year now. I absolutely love Melodie! She is very professional, caring and extremely gentle. She makes herself readily available for any questions or concerns you may have before and after treatment, further, she spends a good bit of time going over your treatment goals. She has a quiet treatment room in the back and it is very easy to feel comfortable. I have never used a groupon with Melodie so I have no idea about that experience. It is more important to me to get a knowledgeable, caring and gentle provider than a discount. I am having Botox injected into my face after all! I purchased a groupon for Botox and called to make an appointment (BTW, they schedule botox appts all at once, so you have to make it to the salon on a specific day rather than when is convenient for you). Finally found a time that work work - a month later than I wanted and just barely before the groupon expired. I arrived about 5 minutes early, as I like to do and sat around in the waiting room for about 20 minutes with barely a "hello" (pet peeve of mine). The lady was nice enough and seemed to know what she was doing and I got my shots and left. About a week later I was still waiting for the botox to take effect. I was still waiting the following week when it was time to have my eyebrows waxed. I went to my usual lady who promptly said my eyebrows we out of line and different shapes (which I noticed but was in denial about). One eyebrow was raised and instead of arcing it jutted straight off my face. She tried to fix it as best she could and sent me on my way. That night at dinner, I told one of my friends about what had happened (she gets botox all the time). She told me most places who offer groupons for botox WATER IT DOWN. The botox was so watered down that it didn't work and I still have wrinkles, only she must have put more botox water above one eyebrow, because that eyebrow is screwed up. My friend is trying to convince me to call the salon manager - I'm seriously considering it. Long story short - if you want to pay quite a bit to have water injected into your face go to this salon. I feel completely ripped off. I am very laidback and the type of person who never complains, but I REALLY feel strongly about this - STAY AWAY from this terrible salon. read more

I had either a Groupon or Living Social discount for six laser hair removal treatments. I used two of the six sessions and will not be returning to this establishment. Parking is lacking in general. The waiting area is very nice, and the treatment room was also very nice. The technician performing the procedure, the same gal both times, was professional and competent. (I have had laser hair removal for my underarms at another business) Reasons for two stars: 1. Timeliness of returned calls is not adequate or within the time period indicated in their message (even when I called on a weekday). Since there is not a receptionist, be prepared to wait longer than 24 hours for a response to an inquiry 2. Because the isn't a receptionist, there is no appointment reminder. I used another business for eyelash tinting that the owner ran out off basement; she didn't have a receptionist, but is able to provide appointment reminders via email. For a business that is in an actual office building (vs a private residence with their business in their basement), I expect an appointment reminder At my second appointment, I scheduled my third appointment. Because I have a varying work schedule and am not allowed to bring my smart phone into my work area, I use a "white berry" (paper weekly planner) that includes my work schedule and all appointments (both routine & non-routine). I know I recorded the date/time of the third appointment correctly, since I would be coming off a midnight shift and would have only a few hours of sleep. Unfortunately, the technician did not write the appointment down correctly in her paper appointment book. She had me down for the next day. There was no apology, and after waiting another five minutes for her to return to reschedule my appointment (which I had requested once is was told I was a day early), I left. I did not receive a call on the day/time of my "actual" appointment, with an apology and/or offer to reschedule. I understand it is technically my fault for missing this appointment, and if I had received a call offering me treatments four, five & six (with me absorbing the loss of treatment three), I would have gladly returned to this establishment. Since I was not afforded that opportunity and the fear of having this happen again, I have not returned and do not plan on returning. read more

So I came to get a facial and partial massage from getting a deal on Weeklyplus as well as an eyebrow shaping. After finding the place parking was a little difficult because they share parking with a number of other buildings. The inside lobby is nice and so was the treatment room. I called a number of times and even though I left messages I finally had to email and ask them to call me back. Once I arrived the girl got me situated in the room but it was warm, she opened the window and it cooled off but it took her forever to get everything ready she didn't have it preset up. I would think you'd make sure you were totally set up for the appointment. She did my eyebrows and they looked really great. She didn't explain what she was doing threw each step of the facial which would have made me more comfortable and she was chomping on her gum. When I told her I was not interested in purchasing more, she said I had an attitude and told me to leave and get a refund on my Groupon. I have always gotten 12 units of Botox in my crows feet for correction and it has always worked. Melody told me I need 10 to12 units on each side something I had never done. She insisted so I went forward. WELL I PAID FOR 18 UNITS ALL TOTAL IN MY CROWS FEET. Melodie did the exact same weird behavior mentioned in others reviews - pretended to have a bunch of other people working with her but it was really obvious she was a one man show. (i didnt mind waiting just thought it was a bit bizarre) Once I went back Melodie asked me if I had botox before. I had, several times. She then proceeded to tell me that she can only put the majority of the botox in one area because thats what her doctor only allows her to do, and also because she's been trained by Allergan and they tell her to do that. (Aren't ALL botox injectors trained by Allergan?) So in order for me to have the rest of my forehead done I will need to buy more product or it wont work. I asked why would they sell 15 units of botox in a groupon if they already know that its not going to be enough for one basic area? She responded that she only does what her doctor tells her to do. I ask to speak with this 'doctor' who is holding her hostage with all his rules so that I can consult with someone who has the ability to understand the procedure. She gets upset and tells me that doctor wont likely call me back and if Im not comfortable with her as an injector I should ask for a refund. This review is long overdue. I have been seeing Melodie, Owner and Esthetician of Abella Spa and Salon, for 5 or so years, for various services: facials, chemical peels, microdermabrasions, IPLs (photo facials) and Botox injections (twice). She has a great business sense, & a soft, soothing, caring approach/voice. She is professional, friendly and just down-to-earth. She is never pushy with product or additional services. I typically provide Melodie with two to three availability slots and she and I agree upon a date and time. I have to say I am shocked at some of the Groupon reviews. I do know for a fact that it can be challenging with Botox. If you don't want to take her suggestion to spend the money and get the number of injections Melodie recommends, you likely won't be happy with your result, i.e., you will write a bad review. That sucks. It's a double edged sword because if you do pay for more injections...you leave her Botox chair unhappy - feeling that she "upsold" you and you STILL leave a negative review. Because you didn't get what YOU wanted. YOU are not the Botox expert. Melodie is trained and knowledgeable in her field...so if she says you need "X" number around your crows' feet, you do. No lie. I'll take time to share a few more thoughts. #1 - I am not one of Melodie's friends. Never have I seen Melodie outside of Abella Spa. #2 - She is not paying me or discounting my services in exchange for this review. If you buy a package (like 3 photofacials, for example), she will extend a discount for payment of all three upfront (did this on two occasions, one of which was my wedding-prep over 6 months' time). #3 - Do you have a Botox certification? No. So why would you NOT listen to Melodie's expertise and suggested injections?? Melodie has never once tried to push product or upsell me. It's not in her personality. #4 - If you've had Botox somewhere else and they let you call the shots and determine the number of injections, then why don't you become a loyal customer there? Stop trying to save money by buying Groupons! #5 - Melodie and all botox service people get all sorts of over-botoxed crazies coming to try to get more, more, more. Melodie will not inject Botox in those individuals. You know the ones? They jump from place to place - completely overdone because they are addicted? Melodie will not help them, she will refuse service...and if they get really persistent, she will find a referral who will take them. Now that, my friends, is INTEGRITY. Melodie won't take their money. So there you go. Melodie is not greedy or trying to make money off people. So if she says you need 10 injections in your forehead and 6 on each of your crows' feet, if you don't agree, just leave. Get your Groupon refunded. But don't leave a negative review. Karma, people.
