I played Aberdeen for the first time yesterday, and it quickly vaulted its way into contention for my favorite course in the St. Louis area. The course is actually pretty straightforward, while being challenging in just the right places. Good shots certainly get rewarded, but a bad shot won't necessarily doom you - it's a really nice balance of playability and difficulty. The greens here are phenomenal. They're really receptive to approach shots and offer up a good deal of backspin without you necessarily even trying; simultaneously, though, they roll beautifully, if not quickly, when putting. The course aside, one of the things I was most impressed with was the staff and service. The starter on the first hole was extremely friendly and went out of his way to accommodate our group, upon finding out that our tee time had been recorded incorrectly (we had booked a threesome, but they had us down for a twosome). More importantly, though, is that this course clearly takes a steady pace of play seriously. We moved along at a decent pace through the first nine, but when we started to logjam a bit toward the beginning of the back nine, a marshall was immediately on top of things and came by to let us know he was having the slow group up ahead skip a hole, so as to keep things moving. I was particularly impressed by this, since a lot of courses could care less how long it takes you to get around after they have your money in hand. Lastly, a nice touch is the seating area that overlooks the 18th hole and is positioned right next to the clubhouse. It's a great little setup that allows you to relax and socialize after your round, maybe grab a drink from the clubhouse, and take in a nice view of other groups as they play the final hole, which happens to be the most challenging on the course. Needless to say, I'm really impressed with Aberdeen and look forward to heading back soon. read more

Spend your money elsewhere. Course is in horrible condition. Literally dirt in the fairways but yet they are charging $78 on the weekends. Done get had by this. It's been like this for two years so it's not a fluke. Seems like they are trying to sell and not spend our hard earned money to upgrade the course. So many courses charging $65 and in much better shape. Total let down read more

While I found the staff here to be very friendly this course is very "overpriced" The other issue is that every hole is like the one before! Very boring and not scenic in any way at all even being in this area! With this course also being so close to 2 others the four of us that played yesterday agreed that we will not be back to this course....... read more

Real Honest Review: Avoid this course. Many others nearby that are better. But, it isn't the course that was the problem; We recently took some of our employees for a round of golf, and the experience was, unfortunately, unforgettable for all the wrong reasons. We booked two tee times--one for a group of four and another for two more players behind us. All of us are avid golfers, playing regularly at esteemed courses like Tapawingo, Pevely, Crescent Farms, and St. Albans. From the moment we checked in, we were met with undue hostility. The staff immediately warned us not to play slow golf, which felt quite off-putting. After some time at the range, we went to check in for our tee time but were again met with rudeness. An elderly staff member asked, "Who's golfing?" When we explained our group setup, he condescendingly warned us not to slow things down and not to play together on the course. We assured him we understood, and if necessary, the girls would sit out a few holes. He dismissively rolled his eyes, adding to our discomfort. At the first tee, the same staff member reiterated his warning about not getting caught playing together. This set a negative tone for our day right from the start. Despite being experienced golfers who know the etiquette, we found ourselves stuck behind a slow group of four. We patiently waited as they took their time, often five-putting on greens. No complaints from us--we believe everyone should enjoy their game. However, during a brief stop at the turn for snacks and a bathroom break, another staff member rudely told the women to hurry up, even though we were only inside for 10 minutes. The negative treatment continued throughout our round, culminating in an eye-roll from the staff when we returned the carts. The entire experience--from check-in to drop-off--was marred by unwarranted judgments and a clear bias against women golfers. This was an honest review of our experience. We regularly play and respect every course we visit, often conducting business on the greens. We chose Aberdeen to try a new course close to many others in the area. Sadly, we've now crossed it off our list. My wife's grandmother, a friend of the owners, was embarrassed by how we were treated and won't recommend this course to anyone. To be treated with such disrespect was inexcusable. It's clear they have a bias against women golfers. We had hoped to make this a regular spot for outings with clients, employees, and vendors, but after this experience, we won't be returning. read more

Played a scramble tournament. Course was in very good condition. Fairways and greens. The only negative is the age of the carts.

Course = Beautiful. Staff = Unprofessional, argumentative jerks. If I'm the owner/dog I would really consider upgrading some of my staff. read more

In my opinion, Aberdeen is the most underrated course in the St. Louis area. I would venture to guess many regular golfers don't even know where it is, or how to get there, and might instead stop at Pevely Farms along the way. That's too bad for them, because Aberdeen is a solid track, and makes a very nice attempt at links golf, despite being located in a valley in the middle of Missouri. Layout: Like the rest of Aberdeen, the layout is underrated. While relatively flat, the holes have interesting aspects, and there is nice variety. The highlights are the Par 4 4th (long with triple tiered green and pot bunker in front), 15 (monster long, playing between high mounds to a huge green), and 18 (great finishing hole, long par 4 with water up the left and demanding tee shot). The par 3's are different if not spectacular. All of the par 5's can be reached in two shots by moderately long players. The holes are memorable and make for an interesting mix. Difficulty: While not the most difficult course, Aberdeen offers a significant challenge, particularly given the amount of tall grass about the course (where your ball is basically lost). While beginners can get around this track, better players will also find it offers plenty of difficulty and variety. Conditioning: For a public track, its above average, particularly in the off season months. Given the lack of trees, its great in the fall when as leaves will not kill your ball search. Aberdeen particularly shines in the colder months. Even when dormant, the surface is very playable and the greens are kept up nicely all year. Matt O'Dell and company do a great job with this course, particularly considering the course does not use an in ground sprinkler system (they try to keep it as hard and fast as possible, as links golf should be). Value: Greens fees are totally reasonable, even at high times. It's really great value. Scenery: Located in a flat spot in the Pevely Valley with hills around, I find the scenery very pleasing. It certainly has a different feel than the other courses in the St. Louis area, and that is part of its appeal. Walkability: Great course for walking. Practice facility: A real weakness of Aberdeen is the range. It is wet, poorly marked, and has very old, very damaged balls. The practice green is large, however, and quite nice. This is an area in which Aberdeen could improve. Overall, Aberdeen is a real sleeper course and in my opinion, the best course in the Pevely Valley, and one of the best public courses in St. Louis. I give it a lofty 7.5 out of 10. read more

I couldn't agree more with the other reviews about their staff. I recently called the pro shop to get 2 tee times for 8 of us to play. Since the virus was a concern I asked if the cups were raised so we wouldn't touch the flag, someone named Greg got nasty and said, we took the flags away. I don't know any golfer who wants to hit his approach shot into greens with no target so I asked if he ever considered raising the cups so we would have a target and still not have to touch the flag. He had some words for me I won't repeat and he hung up on me. We spent our $160 some where else and had a wonderful time. If you like being treated like crap this might be the place to play but for us we will spend our money where the customer service is friendly and not rude. read more

I came in from Los Angeles to play in a friendly tournament my buddy made up. It was my first time playing Aberdeen. The course was awesome and that's were the complements end. This was the most arrogant group of staff members I've ever encountered. The day started with us paying and one of the guys in our group who is 72 was denied senior rates in the middle of the fall. The asshole behind the counter taking everyone's money would hand us our receipt and say "hurry up and get down to the fist tee". This guy was a real piece a crap and had some ego issues. I thought it was "dress like your favorite golfer day" at the course course like asshole was dressed from head to toe trying to look like Dustin Johnson ... I get the kids watching the tour dressing in orange to look like Fowler ... This guy was 30 and in hope he reads this cause he'll know I'm talking about him. As we approach the tee box the old man at the start keep saying "our all late and are gonna back up the entire day". None of us teed off bc some random 4some was in the fairway of hole one WTF??? We said "we can't go because there are people in the fairway and said "if they were on time they wouldn't be in the fairway." He responded with "no you guys are the late ones". Im thinking "this guys a dick". Then the Marshall comes out in his cart parks behind the 12 man group of ours. One of the guys hooks one in the woods and the Marshall yells out "nice!" And drives off! Throughout the day we were told to pick up the rate of play ... The first group teed off at 8 the last group putted in on 18 at 12:30...4 1/2 hours for 12 people. The course was great but I'll only head back if the staff is replaced or when I call up there after this post and I get an apology from all three of those shitbags. read more

This course is beautiful! It is also difficult because of the narrow fairways, high rough, and hard pin locations. I took a small tournament out there last weekend on September 21st and the course and weather was perfect the only down fall was the REALLY POOR SERVICE. The counter clerks were very rude and the first marshall that was going around was yelling at us for not driving in the fairways when the holes said cat paths only. If the service gets better I will go back if not I will not go back. The service was just that bad. read more

Course is stunning,nothing short of gorgeous, but after the conversation I had with the very arrogant and rude clerk at the club house. I will not be returning to this course!!! And a close friend of mine who normally holds tournaments there once a year will be looking else where to hold future tournaments! Course in decent shape but the Greens keeper is the devil. Puts the pins a pace off the edge.

This course is NOTORIOUS for overbooking. Took 5.5 hours to play this past Saturday. Ridiculous. The same thing happened at this course about a month ago. Should of learned my lesson! I and ALL my golf buddies will NEVER be back!!! read more

Love this course. Offers tee boxes for all skill levels. Course is always in fantastic shape and the staff are all very nice and professional. It has a lot of great holes and winding creeks and native grass throughout. While it appears flat don't let that feel you as there are some elevated greens and tee boxes with undulating fairways making it a nice test for the accomplished golfer and fun for the less experienced. If you play it the first time and score well you'll love it but if you score bad you'll hate it...but you'll still want to play it again until eventually it'll become one of your favorite courses. read more

This is an under rated course that has be one of the better public course. Has had some of the best greens in the area the past several years. read more
