After a wee hiatus and having only focused on yoga/pilates the last few years, recent strength training and boxing has been really testing my body. To compliment a rigorous training program, it's important for self-care. While I have my favourite massage therapists in the city, it was important to receive comprehensive treatment from Abigail Johnston Sports Therapy. Since I have been working closely with Abi the past 2 months, she understands the strain and stress my body has been under. By seeking sports therapy, it helps decompress and relieve tension in muscles, and assists in the recovery process.
Following a week of kettlebells, personal training, and a 3-hour session on bar bell and kettlebell technique, my body was in desperate need of R&R. I booked in an hour for sports massage with Abi and she worked her magic over my wrecked body, while focusing on the areas with the most tension. This was no fluffy spa massage with hardly any pressure; Abi gets in there to relieve the tension... in my shoulders, back, quads. It's murder at the time, but once it's over you feel like a brand new person with a spring in your step. After the session, she shared some observations and tips that I could do to prevent future injury.
