I appreciate that she doesn't fry my hair and also that when I walk out of there, my hair looks natural rather than that "just came from the salon" look. The other thing that I like is that they have certain things they do for sub-segments of their clientele - they have a curtain that can be drawn around some chairs for clients who wear a hijab and they recently started serving wine and snacks (for people like me!). The other thing I like about this salon is how comfortable their chairs are at the wash sinks. Finally, someone got the design right.

The one recommended seemed competent, but I found his attitude extremely arrogant and snobby. He doesn't really care about what you want, or your lifestyle. He doesn't care whether or not you will be able to style your hair at home following his work. He doesn't care about the issues you're having with hair loss, etc, but know that if you talk about this, he will push you to spend a fortune on very expensive store products that make no difference at all. He is very arrogant and seems to think his skills are over and above. You will look runway-ready when he's done with your hair, but unless you're a stylist yourself, you will likely not be able to duplicate the look at home, in fact, you will struggle with it every day. If I return to this salon, I will 100% avoid this stylist.

I saw this salon while grocery shopping, and decided to try it out on a whim - very glad I did! The initial appointment booking was positive - the receptionist asked a couple of questions about my hair, recommended a stylist and was helpful in finding a good time (evenings and weekends... :P) When I arrived for my appointment, the salon appeared fairly clean and tidy with lots of product displays. I was sent to the hair salon downstairs (I didn't realize the building was so big!), where I met my stylist Shauni. She was friendly and welcoming, and totally put me at ease immediately. Here's the thing. I like to change my hair up, and I like a stylist who isn't afraid to make some suggestions based on my face, the way I describe my routine, the length of my hair and any goals I might have (growing it out, something "beachy", etc...) I can be somewhat vague and I don't always know exactly what I want when I arrive at the salon, so I love someone who can be flexible, take charge and produce a great cut on a limited amount of information and direction. Shauni totally did that. She was a great listener, made some suggestions (we cut bangs instead of a side fringe because she pointed out it would get a bit flippy with my glasses - observant!!) and was a confident, efficient stylist. The hair wash chairs were the most comfortable I think I've ever been in. The salon was helpful and friendly, and there was a down-to-business attitude that I really like - I was in and out within about 45 minutes. I love my new haircut, and I'll be going back to her again when it's time to get it cut again!

Seeing that he was half a country away, I figured I ought to track down a skilled stylist here. On the basis of some very positive reviews right here on Yelp!, I decided to take the plunge. I'm super vain about my hair, so getting it cut is a big deal for me. I was super pleased with Stacey, my stylist, and with the whole salon. First of all, I came in early and they were super polite and talked about getting me in ASAP. I got hooked up with some delicious tea in the small waiting area, enjoying the atmosphere. It was very open concept, chic and open, and it didn't feel crowded at all. Love, love loved how gorgeous the interior was, which is exactly what I want in a salon. Loved getting my hair washed, although I was a little disappointed with the lack of scalp massage :( Stacey asked what I wanted, and totally consulted with me the whole time. She also listened to me chatter along the whole time. I love my one-inch shorter hair (I also like it when people listen to me when I explain that I'm growing my hair out). I adore my new hair cut, and while it wasn't cheap it was definitely worth it. Also, their pricing is comparable to most major salons anyways. And my hair remains wonderful. Perfect.

A…read moregirlfriend and I were headed to Calgary to celebrate my birthday weekend and during our drive we decided we wanted blowouts in order to look our most spectacular for our night on the town. The Ginger Group was the first salon to pop up on Google and the receptionist was happy to get us in that afternoon (which came to a surprise quite frankly, because it was a Saturday, after all). Once we arrived we were kindly greeted and met by our stylists right away. Unfortunately, I forgot the name of the gentleman who tended to my messy locks... but he did have a station right next to another gentleman who, to our excitement, frequently had his bow-tie-wearing weiner dog roam the salon. That was a cute touch. The space itself, was perfect also, with its lofty vibe and industrialized pieces. I, personally love a laid-back environment without the snobbery that comes with certain uptight salons. My girlfriend showed up with her hair drenched in coconut oil from the night before, and was extremely worried about being judged by her stylist due to the fact she too, had worked in a salon with women who were umempathetic toward clients behind their backs. Our stylists were phenomenal. The female who worked on my friend was super understanding about the oil and casually chatted her up about our plans for the evening. As did my stylist. They were both kind, informative, and talented professionals. Our hair looked fabulous the entire night and carried all the way into the following day. Thank you for the wonderful experience and allowing me to look fierce on my special day!

Went to get back trimmed as growing out a pixie, and then some thinning/texture- specifically said I didn't want length taken off by ears etc. Katherine disregarded my request and cut an inch and a half off sides and left it uneven, and hacked. My bangs are uneven, again over an inch, and one section is over half inch shorter, again, I didn't ask for length to be taken off. As soon as she started I asked what was she doing, and asked her how on earth I'd style it - she said she shouldn't have taken any length off, left me with partially wet hair, no apology, no fix, nothing. I told from desk I wasn't pleased at all with this service and had a credit card machine thrust in my face for payment. Manager is awful to deal with, and won't compensate me. I left in a hat, and have no way to cover this up in a workplace where I'm to look professional. Absolutely atrocious. TERRIBLE BUSINESS. Not professionals at all. Stylist, front staff and manager shouldn't be in the industry. The butcher hack job if you wish for it will cost you $75. Still waiting to be compensated. Zero accountability by Sheri the owner.

The stylist beside us was almost bumping into me because the stylists' workspaces are so small and crowded. Plus, a man getting a haircut with the barber was literally facing straight at me -- awkward!!!! The new space feels unfinished, deenergizing and sterile. I'm sorry but I can not stand that passerbys in the mall can see me in my unkept state due to the two large panes of uncovering windows. Couldn't there at least be frosting on the windows for privacy? Sadly, I would not go there if it weren't for Tifini. For the cost of services, the environment should be MUCH better. First Choice Hair is even way better. Sorry for the complaints, but this place needs serious work and more space. DM

Angles recently moved next door to a much smaller facility at Brentwood Mall…read more After several years of happy experiences at Angles Brentwood today may have been the last time I go there, despite a stylist that is great. Their new facility is crowded and noisy and not the least bit inviting. It's windows are also open to the mall and clients feel like they're in a fishbowl. So much for a relaxed quiet visit to Angles - it's now tiny, crowded, noisy and the exact opposite of "relaxing".
