The WORST haircut and service possible. HACK job of my hair. Have been left with uneven, chopped, butchered hair. Went to get back trimmed as growing out a pixie, and then some thinning/texture- specifically said I didn't want length taken off by ears etc. Katherine disregarded my request and cut an inch and a half off sides and left it uneven, and hacked. My bangs are uneven, again over an inch, and one section is over half inch shorter, again, I didn't ask for length to be taken off. As soon as she started I asked what was she doing, and asked her how on earth I'd style it - she said she shouldn't have taken any length off, left me with partially wet hair, no apology, no fix, nothing. I told from desk I wasn't pleased at all with this service and had a credit card machine thrust in my face for payment. Manager is awful to deal with, and won't compensate me. I left in a hat, and have no way to cover this up in a workplace where I'm to look professional. Absolutely atrocious. TERRIBLE BUSINESS. Not professionals at all. Stylist, front staff and manager shouldn't be in the industry. The butcher hack job if you wish for it will cost you $75. Still waiting to be compensated. Horrible cut and dye job. No consultation on colouring, ended up very splotchy. Pat ruined my hair by giving me horrible straight blunt bangs and cut my length on a downwards steep angle, NONE OF WHICH I ASKED FOR. They then proceeded to charge me $300 and took ZERO responsibility for their actions! no customer service or maturity. read more

This salon has always been such a good experience for me. All of the staff are friendly and fun. My stylist, Gina, is a gem and can interpret what I want. Plus, we laugh a lot, which is a must!! read more

I have only started going to this salon when my hair stylist Gina moved into here. It's a nice shop with a young fresh look, colorful walls and lighting. Not really the most chic or current salon if that's what you like. They treat me well, give me an iced tea to drink and are always nice and never make me wait. I recommend Gina Whalen as an amazing stylist and awesome person although she only works part time (for me thats no problem). From what I can see though the other stylists are always busy and seem to do a great job! I can't say if the prices are good or not as I've always just paid my stylist and never looked at rates. read more

I made the trek from Edmonton ton to Calgary to specifically go to Urban Fringe to get a color melt done. I had known about this salon for a while and I kept and eye on their Facebook and website to see what kind of hair creations they could come up with next. I had browsed a bunch of pictures and then I saw a before and after of a woman with dark hair, that had gotten a color melt done. That was it. That's what I wanted to do. Because of the commute I ended up being an hour and a half early. Turns out it was a great thing and they started my appointment early, as this process took a bit longer than expected. Under the consultation of the Director Sheri, the salon apprentice Megan (aka hair color goddess) I went from a medium reddish brown to the most amazing, warm, blonde melt. I am beyond in love with my hair. Everyone in the shop is awesome. Chatty, warm professionals who explain processes and how new innovations in hair products work. I left there with a huge smile on my face and a boost in my confidence. Not to mention my hair is silky smooth, trimmed up, colored perfectly and smells awesome. I would definitely make the trip back time and time again. It's worth it! read more

She really made sure to clarify what I wanted before we got started and absolutely nailed it! She turned my traditional highlights into a gorgeous colour melt that I am obsessed with. I have been going to Urban Fringe for a while now and must say that Aimee has got to be THE best colorist for blondes in Calgary, and certainly the best colorist I've ever been to in any of the major cities I've lived in. She gives a thorough consultation, takes a real detailed and somewhat scientific interest in your hair, and I have never seen a stylist pay such close attention to the timing of the color! She stays right on top of the process, no distractions, no wondering where Aimee went! I had been trying to get rid of (or avoid) a golden-toned, or copper brassy blonde, and no "blonde specialist" stylists at even the best salons could ever seem to get me where I wanted, until I started working with Aimee. It wasn't instantaneous, but with patience and precision, she's gotten me from deep brown to the cool blonde balayage I've always been seeking. I left feeling better than I have in a long time thanks to everyone at Urban Fringe! read more

I decided to try Urban Fringe after seeing their amazing colour melts online. I booked in with a senior stylist to get an ash/grey blonde colour melt (I had a caramel blonde balayage at the time) . I wanted my hair to be very ashy and muddy with cool tones as I have always had warm toned colours. I was told my appointment would take about 3 hours- which I was expecting. It was almost an hour before colour was even being applied to my hair because my "senior" stylist was consulting with her manager and other stylists about what to do. My appointment took 5 hours and I had to miss an event I had scheduled that night; a bit disappointing. My stylist recommended I purchased purple shampoo to stop my hair from going brassy, so I did. Only three days later my hair had completely changed in colour and was the exact caramel/brass blonde it was before my appointment. Being that it was Sunday and the following day was a holiday Monday, I had to wait until Tuesday to call the salon, they offered me a same day appointment but I had prior commitments and couldn't do that. They offered me an appointment for that Thursday. When I came in for my appointment my stylist assessed my hair colour and agreed it had brassed out a lot, because at this point it was even worse. Once again she consulted with another stylist on what to do and they agreed to lift it even lighter and tone it differently this time. I wasn't sure what to expect about the cost, as most salons have a 1 week policy for colour corrections. When I asked what the fix was going to cost, my stylist's response was "I'm going to have to talk to my manager"- who of course wasn't there at the time. The end result? Grey colour was applied to the ends in some sections, which was satisfying I suppose. However MUCH of my hair was STILL caramel/brass/yellow blonde- even more so after 1 wash (and the grey was gone). And to boot the manager had decided to charge me another $50 for "product." So $400 later and my hair was still not what I wanted and exactly where it was when I started. My stylist asked me to followup with her within the week to let her know how the colour went but at that point I decided it wasn't even worth it anymore. I would rather have hair I hate than put more money into that place- I'm in a student, paying $400 for my hair to look the same as it was before is illogical. I wish my stylist would have been honest/reasonable with me if the problem was that the colour I was after was not possible instead of me wasting my time and a lot of money. read more

I have been to this salon several times , and every time I have been there the shop is messy! Never clean and the last time I was there a young girl that was behind the desk was doing nothing ! She was on the phone and was very rude to the other employes , she was raising her voice and being very rude , I was so upset with this I asked one of the other girls her name and they said hailey , I love getting my hair done there but I will not go back due to this and they need to clean the place and keep it up instead of sitting on the phone. I was in there another time with my little girl to get her cut and it was messy then and when they washed her hair there was no towels .. I have a hard time enjoying getting my hair done or my little girls and it just isnt clean ! read more

Left salon feeling very disappointed and frustrated. Overpriced as well, they were not up front when asked what they charge for haircut; cost $20. more than other comparable salons. When I asked stylist to texturize my hair, she used thinning shears, yikes!!! Charged top dollar for less than mediocre hair cut. First and last time I will go there and do not recommend this salon. read more

Yesterday was the first time I went to Urban Fringe and I was not dissapointed. I was referred by a friend to Meghan and I am so happy I went. She was easy to get along with and explained everything that we were doing to get my hair to the spot I want it. She ensured that although the picture I had in my mind was doable we should extend the period it takes to have it done to save my hair and avoid losing length which was important to me. Horrible! Overpriced! My daughter and myself went to this salon only because it was opened Monday. Megan did a great job on the color for my daughter but overcharged and lied about me OKing to have olaplex added. Pat did my hair HORRIBLE, the worst color melting I've ever had and I asked her to get rid of my grays', ya she completely missed them all! Spoke with the extremely rude and arrogant owner Sheri. She basically called me a liar and she believe her staff over me since I'm a first time client. So much for excellent customer service. I wont be going back and when you do ask for the cost before as they will lie and charge more then what you agreed too! read more

My husband went here for a haircut. Let's just say that I don't understand how it can be so hard to use clippers. There were long strands of hair on the back. The blending with the longer hair on top was non-existant in some areas. I've sat down with scissors twice now to fix some of the rough spots and to overall make it look better until his hair grows out a bit. Not recommended, and neither of us will go there again. read more

Have not had good experience at this salon, just keeps getting worse every time I go (total of 5 times). My last visit was horrible, sitting at the front for 20min into my appt and not one person acknowledged me there. Was not entirely happy with the color/highlights either after being very specific about what I wanted. And after getting home my husband and my mother both said my hair looked better before I left for my appt. On a previous visit for a trim I left with wet hair! She told me how to get the look of wavy hair but didn't do it on me herself, said it would dry nicely. Not sure why I went back after this visit but I wanted to give her one more chance...not smart on my part. And the price of the cut had gone up $20!! I don't like leaving a salon and having to re-do my hair at home. I think after paying $145 for highlights I should be able to go to work, shopping, out for dinner or whatever and have compliments on my hair. I will not be returning. read more

I just came back from having my hair done at Urban fringe ,Pat has done my hair for years. I am a very picky person when it comes to service. I want it all good manners ,nice environment ,and people who know what they're doing. I get all of this at urban fringe salon. Pat always gives me exactly what I ask for and gives me good advice as well. I would not trust anybody else with my hair she is amazing.
