Very disappointing experience at AbleCare (WELL Health Medical Centre - Coquitlam). Last night, I booked an online appointment through prime option for my 7-year-old daughter. She had an earring stuck in her ear, which was completely stuck and infected, and I could not remove it at home. I was relieved to have an appointment scheduled for the next morning. Around 11 a.m., a nurse from AbleCare called and informed me that our family doctor could not see my daughter today, without any clear explanation. I explained the full situation to the nurse, including that her condition was serious, and that she could not wait until tomorrow -- she needed to be seen immediately. The nurse said she would speak to the doctor and call me back, but I never received a follow-up call. This cancellation caused unnecessary delay and stress. After several attempts to reach the clinic, I was finally able to speak with another nurse around 1:30 p.m., who arranged for my daughter to be seen by Dr. Morne Smit, who is the head of the clinic. When we arrived, Dr. Morne Smit examined my daughter and said she needed a small injection to numb her ear before removing the earring. My daughter was scared and resisted receiving the injection. Dr. Smit initially stated that he would leave and not perform the procedure because my daughter was not his patient and was unwilling to receive the injection, and suggested coming back the next day. However, after examining her, he recognized that there was an infection in her ear and ultimately performed the procedure and prescribed antibiotic cream. Despite this, his attitude was unprofessional and showed a complete lack of empathy. Overall, I found the clinic's communication and responsiveness disappointing. The Walk in Clinic is only open until noon. It's hard to find the schedule online to see your doctor.

It is absolutely impossible to book and appointment with my doctor on line. Every date I choose shows up as "unavailable." I try phoning for an appointment, but nobody ever answers the phone. The only option I have is to try walk-in, and visit whichever doctor is available. Why can't they fix it? read more

I was feeling really sick this morning and walked in to make an appointment. The reception team was welcoming, friendly and helpful and was able to book an appointment for me today. Dr. Smit was patient, friendly and helpful as well. read more

I just got off the phone with them and Sabrina helped me navigate the virtual appointment booking. She had a friendly attitude which put me at ease as I was getting frustrated trying to book a virtual appointment with my nurse practitioner. They were very busy at the office (I had to keep calling to get a live person and then was put on hold). She was very jovial and made me feel respected. I opted to get a nurse practitioner for me and my family as she was accepting patients. Ruphina Muir is a very competent practitioner with great bedside manners. I highly recommend her. She can do a lot that a doctor can do and if there is anything she needs a doctor to step in or advise her on, she has many in the clinic to do so. And another bonus about this place if you visit in person...... Starbucks just around the corner! I saw a lot of negative reviews here but I thought I'd highlight the positives. read more

SUBJECT: PAYVAND I have been attending therapy sessions with Easy Allied Health who were renting spaces within the Able Care Medical Walk-In Clinic. I personally didn't and still don't like this walk in clinic and would not recommend it to anyone!! The only thing that made my visit pleasant besides my therapy team was one of the receptionists named PAYVAND. She was extremely POLITE, KIND, RESPECTFUL, PROFESSIONAL, HELPFUL & PLEASANT. PAYVAND was a breath of fresh air in that uptight, dreary, and miserable place. The only reason I would ever step foot in that clinic again as my therapy team has now moved is to see PAYVAND. If every receptionist working at the front desk & all doctors working in these walk-in medical clinics were as OUTSTANDING IN CONDUCT, PERSONALITY AND HUMANENESS as PAYVAND people would be more happy and pleasant when entering these places. PAYVAND don't ever change as people of such high morale as you are dwindling, such a GREAT lady!!!! read more

That was the second clinic I've called that day because i needed to get some stitches. The first clinic I spoke to them on the phone and this clinic I decided to stop by. They didn't want to do my registration. The excuse was that they were very busy but I didn't buy it. I knew that the Reason was because it wasn't work related. Shame. read more

Dr. Morne Smit at Able Care Medical Clinic in Coquitlam is a rude unprofessional doctor. My partner saw him this morning and came out in tears. As Dr. Smit came in the door my partner was in the process of turning off her phone and the Dr. looked at her, said "I'll come back when you're ready" and loudly slammed the door on her. She immediately came out to ask Dr. Smit what that was all about and he just ignored her and continued typing on his computer. This is unacceptable and very unprofessional behaviour from Dr. Smit. He definitely could have handled this in a more professional and mature manner. This was only his 2nd appointment of the morning and to have such a rotten attitude already is very rude. His job is to care for ill patients and not to have them leave in tears! We will be contacting his manager and The College of Physicians and Surgeons about this incident. I've been to this clinic several times seeing other doctors and all of them were very pleasant and professional including the staff, however Dr. Smit has given Able Care Medical Clinic a black eye in my opinion. read more

Able Clinic in Coquitlam, next to Save-on-Food. When you need an annual repeat referral, the front office says that there is a charge even though I had never needed to pay a charge before. When confronted with that fact, they will then refer you to the doctor. Dah! They seem to have a disconnect between the reception and the doctor. It points to management dysfunction in the office. Morale must then be really low. Time for some changes of leadership in management. I eventually went to the clinic in Walmart and they were friendly and swift, process the paperwork immediately and problem solved. So nice! I hate Able clinic ever since Dr. Able sold his business. read more

This walk-in clinic sucks!!! My wife had rush on her hands and we checked online found a five-star rated clinic at this very same location but under the name of Dr. Michael Frankel. When asked, the receiption said its the same and now called Able Care - turned out the bad apple won the location and pushed the good doctors out. The attitude was the worst from the big lady who just sits there doing nothing, and she should not even be in this business...... I will tell everyone I know that nobody should ever go there. They just are able to make you sick!!! read more

Dr. Morne Smit is a very knowledgeable and caring doctor who takes the health of his patients very seriously. My parents have been his patients for about 7 years, and I have accompanied both to each of their appointments to translate, so I have first hand experience with the care he provides. When my family doctor of 18 years seemed to be too busy, we went to Dr. Smit as walk-in patients. He has addressed all our health problems in a professional manner and his treatments and referrals are always excellent. Although he declined in the past to take us in as his patients because he was too busy, when our family doctor passed away last December, he accepted us as his regular patients. That is caring! In all my dealings with Dr. Smit he was attentive, analytical and knowledgeable. read more

If you are sick, you are sick, don't cancel the appointment I have made! You don't know how I feel or what I have been going through for the past 8 days. Today the receptionist/MOA cancelled my appointment deciding that I should come the following day instead. She never spoke to me in person to let me know it was cancelled and I didn't retrieve my messages until I was already on my way to the office. Once there, she told me that she gave my appointment away to someone else and it was no longer available for me. I told her I felt I really needed to see the doctor as per my appointment. She had me wait 15 minutes while she checked with the doctor and then I was turned away. Really frustrating!! My suggestion: don't give details of why you need to see the Doctor or she may decide to cancel your appointment too. (If something unforseen happens like the Doctor is sick and can't see his/her patients- understandable, just please call until you reach someone; but don't determine when I need to see a doctor) read more
