I had an absolutely wonderful experience from the phone call to book and my facial. I initially called the Kenilworth location @ 10:11 am Saturday morning to check availability and book appt. The young lady at the KENILWORTH location was very short and dismissive stating they had no appts. I called Pikesville location, the lady who answered was warm, friendly and very accommodating. She was able to get me in quickly without feeling rushed. My facial was with Erin and she was very knowledgeable and gentle, yet thorough as well. I will definitely be returning to the Pikesville location because of the impeccable customer service!!! read more

They no longer have you fill out an intake form and not sure why. You no longer get undressed in the dressing room instead they have you do it right in the room where you're serviced. The salon is not as lively and vibrant as it once was. I got a custom European facial a, nothing special. It did the job. I booked manicures and pedicures at About Faces at Kennilworth over a month ago specifically for the 4 of us to have a fun experience together and confirmed on the phone that we would be together and could get nail designs. Unfortunately, when we arrived yesterday, we were split into different rooms (and the front desk people didn't seem to care), the timing of our services was completely off (one person's appointment was almost an hour different), and most of us were told they could not do designs after all. The bright spot was Stacy -- she was incredible! She was kind, talented, accommodating, and did an amazing job with nail art. I really appreciated her effort and customer service. Overall, I was disappointed because the experience we planned and confirmed ahead of time was not what we received. read more

Went to Tiki in Pikesville. I had photos of what I wanted & discussed it with her beforehand. Curtain bangs, soft wolf cut. I asked for the length to be cut from mid back to shoulder length. She advised that I should go longer since my hair is curly and physically showed me where it should be (just below my shoulders). I can't see what's happening during the cut as I have to remove my glasses & can't see anything at a distance without them. Turns out she cut my hair up to my clavicle, it's bulky on the ends and my bangs are now just short bangs above my eyebrows. She finished & git me out of the chair so fast I barely got a chance to look let alone address what had been done. I don't understand how I got this result after our discussion! It's really bad. I walked in to check in for my appointment and stood at the desk for 10-15 minutes. No one acknowledged me. A caucasian woman walked in after me, stepped around me, there were two people at the desk. They both immediately started helping her. It was so blatant and offensive. I was given a gift certificate to use and had planned to get additional services. They lost the additional $350 I planned to spend. It was so disappointing. After a long week of work, I just wanted my nails done for a function. If I can ever get service, I will just purchase some products with the gift certificate and will call it a day. I recommend everyone to Try Other Salons!!!! I just experienced the worst service I've ever had in my life and would never recommend this business to anyone. I arrived on time to a 9:15 am appointment. I was walked to the polish area and told to pick a color. My technician isn't ready but I'm offered a beverage. The tech asks about what's currently on nails I say hard gel. This is where everything to follow goes downhill. I'm then told it's a timed appointment and she has other appointments and may not be able to accommodate me. Sure, no problem. I walk back to reception and suggest canceling my pedicure to have adequate time for my scheduled manicure. Next thing I know the tech can now accommodate me and I'm told "we don't refuse service." Ok great! Both my toes and hands are wrapped in acetone. During the pedicure I ask do they offer Russian Manicure/Pedicures and I'm told no and it's expensive anyway. Welp, I guess this hard gel Russian manicure/pedicure Ive routinely received monthly and I'm here to remove is expensive. Throughout the appointment I'm made to feel like an inconvenience. I'm told I should have went back to were I received my Russian Manicure/Pedicure and how difficult it is to remove. Eventually, the manicurist comes to assess and pulls the acetone wrapped foil off my nails (I estimate I sat with wrapped acetone for at least 30-40 mins). She didn't introduce herself just started tugging and complained to the pedicure tech about not filing them down first. The pedicurist says she didn't have the time. I'm just sitting there while the manicurist begins to complain about the gel and asked if I want my nails cut. I say no, and she asked if I had tips. I said no, and am surprised a professional has to ask this question. She then tells me she can file them but doesn't recommend Dazzle Dry (preselected service) because my nails will break. Ok. Sounds fishy but ok I'll upgrade to gel. She returns to tell me she had other appointments and I can come back later or another day. I suggest canceling. The pedicure continues to discuss the gel and ask what the manicurists plans were. I said I don't know and out of frustration tears start falling. I wish my body responded better to stress but yes I am now wiping tears away. The pedicure tech begins to hand me tissue (3x) without saying another word. When she's done she says sorry. I'm thinking she's apologizing for my experience but she goes on to say I need to move so her next appointment can have the chair. I walk to front and the same receptionist says $75, she doesn't ask about my service or even suggest trying again at another time for manicure. I then ask to speak to the manager. I recall for the manager how from the moment I walked in I was treated as an inconvenience and shared the same details as described above. Tears still rolling I tell him I could have went anywhere and I choose to come here. I walk away and he grabs my lower arm/wrist and says he noticed I paid and would refund my service. I have no idea if he will, I know i will no longer patronage any About Faces. Whenever I have a problem at a business I attribute it to a training issue. Here's what I recommend for the manager or other staff who train employees. 1) Treat customers warmly as there are many options for similar services. 2) avoid sharing your business's scheduling issues with customers. 3) Offer spa like services like your name implies 4) check in with customers who choose to cancel services mid-appointment. I promise you an ounce of prevention is less costly then what's to follow if not treated 5) ask customers before they pay/tip how was everything today 5) Listen and adjust when you learn of issues. read more

I started booking my haircuts at About Faces when my favorite stylist, Robert, joined the team. I have to drive 30 min to get to this salon, but it is entirely worth it. I have long, fine curly hair, and I used to always stress about getting it cut - but not anymore! Robert does an excellent job giving it texture and volume while maintaining the length. I visited here for the first time this past weekend. The ladies at the check-in counter were very nice. My technician was Ada and I booked the Spa Pedicure. She was very nice and kept telling me to "just relax". Everything was going well until right before she started putting my polish on. She cut one of my toenails down very low and slanted. (See pics) She didn't say anything about it or offered an apology, even after I mentioned it to her. It was hurting and painful. I told her before she got started that my nails grow close to my nail bed and I have been cut really badly before. I was so devastated that I just wanted to leave right away. As you can see in the pic, my heel was also very dry right afterwards. This pedicure was definitely not worth the money. 12/3/2021 I was contacted by the District Manager regarding my experience. I was pleased with the resolution and her apology regarding what happened. I will be visiting another location, to give them another try. read more

I have come to this location in and off for a few years now and it's pretty good depending on what your being serviced for. A few years ago I came for a spa package and it was meh, I came for a massage a few months ago and it was meh. The massage therapist, wore gloves during my massage which did not feel good, and her technique could've used some work. At time it felt like she barely applied any pressure and also not enough oil to massage in, since she had on gloves. I didn't like the overall experience, she seemed uncomfortable doing her job and I felt it. The best service was the spa pedicure! Ada was super sweet and accommodating. The environment was relaxing and my pedicure looked amazing. So I would NOT return for a spa package or massage, however I will return for pedi with Ada. read more

I just had my hair cut today by Robert Terry at the Pikesville location of About Faces. Robert is amazing! This was my first time at this location. From the outside, I would not have imagined it to be such a large location. Immediately upon entering the waiting area, my appointment was confirmed. I was then pointed in the upstairs direction, where I visited a second check-in station for spa services. Other than the overall size, this location does not differ much from the larger location in Towson. The downstairs is a little more noisy, while the upstairs area affords a more peaceful and calming atmosphere in terms of lighting, music and light refreshments. There was a pitcher of detox water, apples and what appeared to be pretzel sticks on a table in the waiting area The second floor area has windows that overlook into the hair salon. As far as cleanliness, the space appears clean upon cursory inspection. Though my appointment was not punctual, it ran pretty smoothly once I was greeted by the massage therapist. I was given time to get prepared before the massage. The one hour massage was very relaxing. However, I think I prefer the Towson location. read more

To be fair, I was a walk in. Or rather they scheduled me for 3 hours after I walked in. My stylist was working on another client's color WHILE she cut my hair. When she was finished, my hair didn't look ANYTHING like the picture I showed her. When I told her the picture was shorter in the back she told me that this was better for my hair because it was curly. When I said the picture had more layers she told me that I needed to use a flat iron to achieve that look (a flat iron isn't going to create more layers). She then told me if I wanted her to style it that way, it would cost more. Then she flat ironed PART of my hair and achieved what I can only describe as a Farrah Faucett style flip. I wish I could say that this was my first negative experience but I've been there two other times with two other stylists (because it's conveniently located) and every time my hair is cut into the exact same shapeless bob. NOT what I asked for. I've learned my lesson and will not be back. read more

This is the third time I've tried to get my eyebrows tinted and waxed here. I'm never going back. This evening, when I asked if the aesthetician would wear a mask, she scoffed and told me she was already vaccinated. She waxed my brows first and ripped off skin. Then I asked if she would make sure my brows weren't too dark because last time I came they definitely overdid it. And she either went too dark or left the tint on too long-- because they're now jet black. She clearly recognized she had made a mistake because she then began scrubbing feverishly and was scrubbing off skin. I asked her to stop immediately. She recognized they were too dark and asked if I wanted her to redo them. Nope. All good. I didn't want her ti touch me again. Now I look like I have caterpillars on my eyebrows-- I guess that'll be my Halloween costume this year... Editing because I called back and the pikesville location credited me and the. booked me at the Timonium location for a fix and it's wayyyy better now. But highly recommend choosing Timonium over pikesville! read more

I went here this past Saturday with my friend for a girly spa day. We only spent time together for manis/pedis and had a massage scheduled on either side of the nail appointments (mine was after). Aesthetically, this place is very nice looking. It's tucked away in a plaza, and looks tiny from the outside, but it's fairly big inside. They have a front desk, and multiple hair dressing stations, behind which are nail stations and chairs for pedicures. The massages take place upstairs. The lady who did my nails was not talkative, which was fine. I was running my mouth with my friend anyway. What I will say is this lady did an excellent job with both the mani and the pedi. My nails look great! The massage was decent. The girl did a good job getting the knots out of my back and shoulders, but I'd have liked her to press more firmly into my skin. I have gone to MEILE for over 3 years now and I marvel how talented she is in both doing manicures and pedicures. She never hurries or rushes in doing either, and she comes back to area's that I would never notice but she thinks need a retouch. I know by watching her that she takes pride in her work and artistry, and what she does is pure artistry. She laughs when I tell her that she is the best in the world, and I have zero doubt that she is. I have had both manicures and pedicures for over 40 years, and I would never go anywhere else or consider anyone else because you cannot top perfection. It's a privilege for me to have her to keep my fingernails and toenails healthy and looking good. As for a crescendo she also gives mini massages on both the legs and hands that feel so relaxing that it could easily make you fall asleep. read more

My longtime stylist went AWOL, and I was left floundering for a new place to go two weeks before a wedding that I was attending. The salon I had been going to in Abingdon was the opposite of convenient, but I had followed my stylist when she moved there a few years ago. Now I was free to go anywhere I wanted, but where to start? I have always had waxes and facials and massages at About Faces in Towson , but never had my hair done there. Now that my department recently relocated from downtown to Owings Mills, I found that there is an About Faces conveniently located on Reisterstown Road, just 10 minutes from my office. Score! I was able to schedule an appointment right after work. I have been coming to this location for the past few months for waxing so I was already in their system and familiar with the layout of the space. Everyone here is so nice and friendly and accommodating, I have not encountered one pretentious person (clientele excluded, but that is my own fault for eavesdropping). Raquel is my new stylist, and she is terrific. I explained to her what I was looking for in regards to color and cut, and not only did she listen to me but she also offered suggestions. After my style she even showed me how to do my new look at home, and had me practice with her brush and dryer. What personal attention, and I so appreciated it! My new cut and multi-dimensional highlights are fantastic; my hair has never looked better or healthier. I was complimented by several people in the salon on my way out which made me feel great too. THE BEST FACIAL EXPERIENCE I HAVE RECEIVED BY FAR! In my opinion the facial was way better than the massage I received here. The facial involved a steam spray and multiple creams and gels that felt & smelled amazing! The technician was very nice and thorough. As for the massage therapist she was friendly and did an okay job. The massage didn't vary in multiple massage strokes and techniques as I would have liked The massage tech didn't balance the massage by making it symmetrical either, so my right side received more than my left side. The most uncomfortable part was with my tension areas the m.t vigorously rolled over them x times which did not feel good at all. Instead pressure therapy should have been applied and then smoothed out softly. Overall, I am looking forward to going back for another session with the same facial technician and trying a different massage therapist. read more

Decided to treat myself to a birthday manicure and pedicure and it was nice to relax for a bit. I was promptly checked in by a nice man at the front desk and shown where the nails area was. Anna was my technician. She was friendly and took her time. There was a lot of talking right outside the door that was distracting but the chair was at least comfortable. Some spa music or white noise in that area may help. The pedicure chairs are spread out and the manicure stations have a barrier in between the tech and the person. It looks like the spa could use a little face lift..., the celings had some water damage and the walls could use new paint maybe. The parking at the location is busy due to to the neighboring shops...Trader Joe's, Starbucks, Chipotle etc. I booked a massage for next month so I'll be back:) read more

- I paid $250 to get my hair colored and highlighted and it is nothing like the picture - she put this cream too far on my forehead that my front roots tips are still blonde near my hairline so I can't wear my hair up - I said natural colors and have this bright red cheap colored highlights - despite using one base color my hair is reddish towards the scalp and a dull brunette throughout the rest. The stylist was extremely friendly and took time to explain the colors and her thoughts. Unfortunately, a week later I am completely hating this mess up. I went to About Faces to see Jennifer for a curly hair consultation in December 2014. I had not been to this salon since 2007, when I had my hair done for my senior prom with satisfactory results. This time, my hair was long, limp, and looking pretty thin, so I trusted Jennifer's advice and got my hair cut into a short, curly bob. I was pleasantly surprised with the end result, since her cut managed to bring some volume and curliness back to my hair. My only qualm is the enormous amount of hair products she used in my hair after she was done cutting it (at least 5 different products), which I felt was overdoing it and making the hairstyle actually look worse. Since my hair isn't very thick, all the extra hair product made my hair look wet (in a bad way) and actually emphasized how thin it can be. Also, I wish she would not have used any heat on my hair (she ended up using a blow dryer on my hair to try to correct for the enormous amount of gel and hair products she applied to my hair, even though she promised she is a curly hair styler and would not). I came home and immediately washed all the product out of my hair and was finally happy with the end result. I paid $60 plus tip for the shampoo, cut, and style. I'm still searching around for a curly hair stylist who will do something amazing with my hair, but Jennifer did a pretty good job in the meantime. read more

I'm done with About Faces. I've been going there for a while, and have enjoyed many of their services. Recently, a few things have come up that have prompted me to look for personal grooming services elsewhere. Children: It is NOT appropriate for young children not receiving services to be running around the salon and making noise. When I pay $45 to get my nails done (plus tip), I do NOT want to hear a child pinging on a videogame. When I addressed this politely with the manager (who had seen the situation but done nothing to stop it) his response wasn't helpful. He said: "We can't tell people not to bring their children here." Umm, YES you can. I see it in lots of places. A salon is not an appropriate place for a young child, however, I told him that my problem is not children, per se, but children playing video games and being noisy/disrespectful. It's not an arcade. He responded, "Oh, sorry about that." This isn't how you treat a customer you value who comes, on average, 1-2 times a month. Set boundaries or lose clientele. Rude Behavior on behalf of management and staff: -Clients are double-booked at times. I always book online, so it's not like there is confusion about my appointment time. I left work early one day to get to an appointment and found out, whoops, they were running 1/2 an hour behind BECAUSE THE DOUBLE BOOKED and none of the receptionists could inform me or even apologize. No one except my service provider apologized. I wasn't angry, but a heads up would have been nice so I wouldn't have wasted 1/2 an hour in their waiting room. Halfway through my appointment, a woman came in and yelled at my service provider that she had been double booked, too. Then, the manager came in and screamed at my service provider during my appointment to "clarify" with her. It was humiliating for her, and mortifying for me as a customer. -A nail tech, K, was incredibly rude and hurtful to me during my last visit. She told me that she didn't like my personality and berated me. I'm not someone who typically reacts when I'm lambasted, so I calmly waited until the end of my service and tipped her. Despite the fact that I really like Meile's services (Meile does fantastic nails), I just can't come back. Clients deserve better. 'About Faces' Pikesville needs to get their act together. read more

This is probably the worst place to go if you want a short pixie cut. I spent $53 + tip on a cut I didn't ask for. I showed two pictures from pinterest.com of the back view and front view of a cut I wanted, and I got a soccer mom bob when I was done. Even though I had numerous requests to keep cutting hair off, the stylist Liza kept saying it's too short. I realize that you see the shape of my face (oval) and make decisions based on that, which when the cut was done made me look like I had a round face. It was a bob not a pixie like I asked for. So bad I had to go to another salon and ask them to fix it afterwards. So another $70 spent, but at least they gave me what I wanted. read more

If you could rate separately the front counter would receive a 1 star rating as it is not organized and there is no type of formed line and many do not understand you cannot just walk up and be helped when others are waiting and the front desk does not pay enough attention to correct the bad behavior. Booked highlights, treatment, and style for my 11 year old daughter. This is about $250 worth of services on a random Thursday @4pm. The receptionist wrote down the services to be rendered and handed it to the older gentleman, who was about 5 ft, with gray hair and glasses (didn't get his name). He decided to do the treatment first, only to say because of that, he could not do the color. However if he would have done the color first, the treatment could have followed. After the treatment was completed, he didn't style my daughters hair. She literally looked better going into her appointment than when she left. Bringing this to the managers attention, he said that if we wanted her hair styled we would have had booked the service. My wife then proceeded to show the manager that it was booked along with another service that his hairstylist didn't provide. He then confirmed this information with the receptionist, which should have been his first course of action. Instead of his quick witted ignorant response. I cannot help but feel that this stylist took advantage of my mixed daughter and short changed her, all because he wanted to leave earlier and possibly thought that she was someone that may not qualify for exceptional service. By the time we had brought this to the managers attention, he had already left work. These are the folks representing this company. It's sad, because my wife patrons this establishment for multiple services throughout the year. read more
