Everything about her is phenomenal from how warm and cozy her room to her bedside manner. She doesn't talk a lot (which I like), she was mannerly and pleasant and only asked questions to ensure my enjoyment and comfort. This is definitely one of those facials where I fell asleep. I treated myself to a hot stone massage and European facial on my birthday and had a great experience. All the staff were so nice and acknowledged my birthday, which was sweet. My massage was with Maria, who was fantastic. She incorporated the hot stones throughout the entire massage which I really appreciated. I've had massages before where they only use the hot stones for the last few minutes of the massage. I had my facial with Mona and she was great, too. She explained every step of the facial and had a lot of great tips/recommendations for my skin type. I felt so refreshed after both services. Cannot wait to return! read more

I always enjoy the massage services here! It's been a while but everything was just as I'd anticipated. The staff were so friendly and helpful. I got there a little early for my service so had time to get into a robe and slippers and enjoy a beverage in the women's lounge. They have water an assortment of tea, table seating, and a lounge chair with pillows blankets anything you could think of for a comfy wait. They even added a little name placard on one of the tables. Such a cute little touch that made everything feel all the more personal. I had a fantastic 60 minute custom massage with Maria. Her hands are pure magic!!! When I say I needed a massage in the worse way. Yes, I needed a massage in the worse way. I was gifted a Spa Finder gift card and booked this massage to treat myself a few days before my birthday. I chose this location because when searching the About Faces website this location had the availability to accommodate my hot stone deep tissue massage. I have not had a massage in over a year and my last upper body massage was at the mall kiosk stand while in Vegas. Upon arrival to the Kenilworth mall, I found the spa on the second level. I was greeted and immediately walked back to meet Maria (don't quote me on the name-massage therapist). I was placed in a quiet room to undress of course and to get ready for my massage. As soon as she started massaging my back~ she asked when was the last time you had a massage. I told her over a year ago. She did a great job but, I literally had knot on top of knots in my back. She told me I was carrying the world on my shoulders and I feel like I am every single day. This was my first time having the hot stone treatment with a massage and now I will be getting it every single time. The pressure was slightly intense at times but, I knew I needed it to iron out my knots. When anyone ask me what I need as a gift idea~ it will be a deep tissue hot stone massage for sure. I made an apt online for manicure and pedicure for about $75. When I got to my appointment I picked out my colors and decided to go dazzle dry for manicure which is an extra $10. I don't go to the nail salon often, mostly for special events so when I do go my expectations are pretty average and somehow i'm disappointed each time. Deanna was very nice, patient and professional but as you can tell from the photo didn't clean around the cuticle properly and the polish isn't evenly applied. My nails look grown out and I just got them done. A family member even looked at them and said "you JUST got those done?". It was pretty disappointing for the price. I enjoyed my first spa day at About Faces after receiving a holiday spa package from my husband for Christmas. The package included a 45 minute massage, mini facial, classic mani/pedi. The spa is located on the same level as Trader Joe's but on the opposite end. I arrived 15 minutes early and checked in at the store front. The young lady then escorted me to the spa and the experience began. Another lady then showed me the ladies lounge where I was able to lock my belongings and change into a robe and slippers. I completed the first timer questionnaire and then waited about 10 minutes for my experience to begin. Massage - The massage was my absolute favorite part of my spa day. I wish I remembered the ladies name that performed the massage! I'm hoping if I call they'll be able to let me know. I asked for a Swedish massage (medium pressure) and she accompanied the massage with lavender aromatics. I was massaged from head to toe and it felt absolutely amazing! So relaxing. I typically would ask for hot stones but during the massage she was already incorporating hot towels on my back and it felt amazing. I'll definitely return for this service. Mini Facial - The mini facial felt nice. A simple wash, peel, and SPF. Afterwards, I noticed the products left a white cast on my face. Maybe not absorbed or rubbed in well enough but it was very apparent on my melanated skin. I won't book this service again. Afterwards, I changed back into my clothing and went to receive my mani/pedi. Classic Mani / Pedi - My previous services must have run a tad bit over because soon as it was time for my mani, the lady was a bit rushed. I'm certain we were nearing the end of her shift. She quickly cleaned my nails and prepped them for polishing. I chose OPI's *big apple red* and she painted my nails nicely. Once she finished, she was out the door and another young lady named Keshawn did my pedicure. My pedicure was nice. Keshawn was very nice, attentive and we had great conversation. She gave me information on dazzle dry which I'm very curious about and plan to return soon to try the service. She took her time and allowed me time to dry my toes while she tidied things up around her station. After drying, she assisted with removing the toe separators and I returned to the store front and checked out. All in all, this was a nice experience. Next time, I'll ask about the services that include wine and lunch. I saw this offered to others enjoying their spa day and I'm curious which packages/services include those options also. read more

I can't recommend enough two massage providers. Matthew (Timonium) and Nay (Kenilworth) are at the top of their game. Matthew is amazing at listening and adapting, and really dialing in the pressure and experience to his clients. Both my partner and I are long term clients that look forward to every Matthew appointment. He has made us want more massage! I had an appointment in Salisbury with Nicole for mani/pedi. My nails have been a complete mess the last year with a move from Alabama. I have inherited my mother''s ridged nails and splits. I've been to About Faces many times, but was really disappointed on my most recent visit. I booked pedicures for me and for my daughter and was really looking forward to having some time to chat together. I made it clear that we wanted to be next to each other. Unfortunately, when we were taken into the spa, are seats were not side by side. The technicians apologized, but couldn't, or wouldn't, change things. In addition, my daughter's chair did not have a working massage feature, which is half of the fun. again, thee was an apology, but no attempt to change anything. I go here for my Brazilians and normally am a gate keeper when it comes to certain gems. I have been going here for 20 years off and on different locations. Every time I go everyone is very professional and nice. The quality of their services is amazing. I have never left disappointed. The vibe is always so comfortable! Relaxing. They still use waxing strips for minimal pain with maximum effect. I had the WORST day today. I went for my service literally shaking and upset. My Esthetician Melissa is amazing. By the time I left there my mental was better, my mind was clearer and my self care was done wonderfully as usual. Love this place. I was gifted a spa gift certificate from my work and I was very excited to use it for the Spa Pedicure, an upgraded pedicure experience! I had a gift certificate through a third-party service called "spa gift finder." When I told the receptionist I had that she looked at me and said "We hate those things." I was shocked and had no idea what to say- I found this very unprofessional. It was quite off putting and left me thinking "Ok, I won't come back here next time." They are probably just as happy with that if they don't like Spa Gift Finder, though. As far as services, I was very happy. Lauren was my provider and I left with a great pedicure. She was very gentle and I appreciated that during the sole exfoliation. The foot massage was extremely relaxing. Overall, I would recommend the services at About Faces and hope that one person I interacted with was having an off day. read more

I really thought this was the place to go for nails, massages, etc. However, my experience was not as great as I would have hoped. It was also my birthday, so I really though this place was the place to go. The front desk staff was very nice. When I arrived there was someone complaining at the desk and the staff woman was very attentive and really tried to get as much information from the client as possible in order to find a solution to her problem. This was my first time at About Faces, so I did not select a person to do my massage or nails. I first received a massage from Maria. I booked a 60-minute spa massage with hot stones and an aroma oil enhancement. This was great. Maria was really good at explaining the temperature of the stones and how she would incorporate the stones into the massage. She then asked about my preferences when it came to pressure and the aroma scent I liked the most. I was really impressed with her professionalism and attention to detail. Before the massage even started, I just knew I would love it, and I did! I will definitely ask for her again when I book my next massage. I then had my Footlogix Medi Pedi Pedicure. When I met the woman who would be doing my pedicure, she showed me the Shellac colors. She put the 2 I liked on my fingernail, and I chose blue. Yet before we even left the color wall, I thought of a different color and asked about it. She said, "no I like the blue better" and walked away. I did not like that response very much and since she didn't try it on my nail, I just went with the blue to be safe and I didn't want to be rude. I regret that choice. When I got home, I realized the other color would have matched my birthday dress better. I think that is why I suddenly was attracted to the other color. When I got to the chair, it was old. They really need to upgrade their equipment. I am not super tall, but I was tall enough that it really bothered me when the chair didn't push back far enough for me to be comfortable. Also, the chair did not have the part where when they scrub your calluses, your foot is upheld by a footrest that comes out of the corner of the chair. (I am not sure if I am describing it right, but basically, it's a part of the chair that you can put your feet up on and it holds up your feet so they scrub the bottom of your feet.) With this said, I felt like the callus scrub was really lacking since she and I were both tired of holding up my feet. Lastly, the chair was kind of small where you put your feet up for them to polish them. So when she used the UV light, it was VERY VERY hard to balance the UV light machine to stay on the actual chair. This was very annoying. I then had my last service which was a Shellac spa manicure. This was just ok. I have had way better. However, the woman who did my nails was so nice and very very sweet. (Not the same woman who did my pedicure.) Even though it was great speaking with her, I felt the manicure was not as clean cut as I would have liked. It also chipped within a week. I would definitely return, only for a massage. I feel like I could get better manicures and pedicures at places like Nail Trix than here. read more

Do not come here!! My hairdresser was the absolute worst! I originally got my hair partially highlighted from this salon in gambrills. But since I'm from the Towson area, I decided to try a salon close to home. That was a mistake. I have naturally dark brown hair. Very cool-toned dark brown hair that sometimes even looks black. I get blonde highlights throughout my hair all the time, which are usually super light, but they don't overpower me because my natural hair is still very visible and the two colors contrast each other very nicely. My roots were a bit grown out when I came to this salon so the top of my hair was very dark compared to my highlights. The second I sit down at the chair, my stylist says "why are there different colors in your hair?" Like idk maybe because I have highlights!?! Then she proceeds to be confused about how my roots are darker than the rest of my hair...OBVIOUSLY BC MY NATURAL HAIR COLOR IS DARK AND ITS GROWN OUT!!! Anyways she proceeded to call the streaks of my hair that were my natural hair color "lowlights" even though I continuously told her that was just my natural hair color. She then said "Okay but your hair's not THAT dark." Yes, it is actually, because it's my natural hair color!! Anyways, she ended up not giving me highlights and instead dyed my whole entire head a light, coppery, orangey warm-toned shade of brown that I did not ask for, nor do I think suits me at ALL!! I have always had cool toned hair and warm toned hair has never looked good on me. Not to mention the fact that I also do not have any highlights in my hair. My hair all just looks like the same ugly orange shade of brown. No dimension, no different shades, and nothing like what I asked for. Never go here! read more

I highly recommend ART for any hair cut! He transformed both of my sisters hair from long hair to an adorable pixie cut! We first met Art at About Faces who cut my sisters hair to help pave the way for my baby sister who had just started chemo. He was so sweet and kind and came to Johns Hopkins Hospital to cut my sisters hair who was recently admitted. She was so nervous to lose her long hair and Art made it fun and helped take the anxiety away because of the incredible talent that he has. It was so generous and thoughtful of him to come and cut her hair, so that she could be in the comfort of her own room and not have to go to the hospital salon. He offered to come with less than a 24 hour notice and was immediately happy to help! They both look like movie stars and I couldn't be more happy with his incredible skill and attention to detail. He is unbelievable and worth every penny! Thank you Art for your help and support with our family as we go through this journey ... you are officially a part of it now with us! Awful customer service and organization, I've had multiple bad experiences and keep hoping they gave have gotten they're logistics together since my last visit, but shockingly they never do. Waiting an hour for a haircut that you had scheduled, being told you don't have an appointment when you had scheduled on the phone, and being told that you made a mistake in choosing locations online (when you have receipts saying you didn't) are just a few things you can expect going to About Faces in Towson. I downloaded yelp to leave this review because of how dissatisfied I am. My friend who gave haircuts out of our high school men's bathroom with a pair of scissors had better organizational skills than the idiots running the ivory tower operation in Towson. read more

I have veen an About Faces customer for a long time. I have two "5-servide packages" in my file now, and the services have been good. However, they have just lost a customer. I just spent over $500 for five services, and on the shallec manicure service the nail technition told me I would be charged an additional $25 just o remove the polish that had been put there by another salon. (There would be no charge if it had been there from About Faces.) Since it takes about 10 minutes to remove the old polish, that is $2.50 a minute! That is an outragous charge! There are several other good salons in the area which are less expensive and do NOT charge to remove polish put there by another salon. I will use up my packages at About Faces since they are already paid for, but the other salons will now have my business in the future. read more

The Towson location is a bit of a drive from my home, but the experience was well worth it. It is located in the Shops At Kenilworth which is very nice. I had a 10:15 appointment for a massage, and I arrived at 10. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted and invited to checkin. After i checked in was taken to a typical salon waiting area. Everything about it was meant to help you reach a state of relaxation. 1 waited maybe a little more than 5 minutes before my therapist came to get me. I had requested a deep tissue massage and I was not disappointed. My therapist was a petite lady named Jib, but her size definitely did not limit the amount of pressure she could apply for the full 90 minute season. The only negative (very minor) is that parking can be a challenge if you go on a weekend like I did. So give yourself a few extra minutes. Other than that it was an excellent experience. read more

Once a year, my daughter and I do a spa day. Today we had an appointment arrived 10 minutes early. Upon check-in we were greeted by the manager. I advised her I had a reservation for my daughter and myself for a massage and facial. As for my daughter, the only reservation in the system was a massage. I was advised that they were full and was not able for her to have a facial. Going back-and-forth with the manager she continues to check the computer for my daughter's reservation. She stated it was canceled back in May. Do you keep in mind this reservation was made a month or two ago so I'm not sure how it was canceled in May. She continued to go back-and-forth with us in front of other customers. I then provided her the email confirmation that I received two days ago for my daughter and I. I also explained to her someone had called yesterday to confirm our reservation. We were offered other services by the manager. My daughter unfortunately is not able to get a manicure and did not need a pedicure. After 10 minutes of going back-and-forth at the front counter, while customers are looking at us, we were taken to the back waiting area. In the back she continued to look for the reservation and also try to accommodate us with services that we were not interested in. Again after going back-and-forth for about 10 minutes in the back now in front of another set of customers we were able to get accommodated per the manager. I don't consider her giving us what we made a reservation for an accommodation because we had a reservation. Do keep in mind if we do not let all about faces know 24 hours in advance, they would charge my card 50% of the fee for services. It was humiliating to stand in front of customers both in the front and in the back looking at us like we were just trying to get over on someone because there was nothing in the computer system for my daughter. For some reason, we were asked multiple times for the age of my daughter, which she is 22 years of old. As if that would've made any difference. At the end of everything, the massage and facial was great as always. I just don't understand where the miscommunication happen in regard to the appointment and I feel it could've been handled better. We were even offered to come back another day which would've been an inconvenience to us. Would I have received 50% off of services for myself and her and reimbursement for time and gas? I really like the Towson location. I have never been to another location, but my experiences at this location keeps me returning. During my most recent visit, my daughter and I had a mother-daughter day that began with one hour massages and one-hour European facials. It was our second time having a mother-daughter day at this location. We enjoyed the experience so much that we decided that it is something that we would regularly do to contribute to our overall wellness. I was given a gift certificate for a full day of beauty and found it to be too much in one day. My day began at about 8:30 or 9:00 and ended around 2:00. By the time I left, I was tired. Thereafter, I decided to break my services into just a few at a time even if the gift certificate is for a full day. The wait between services was just a little too much for me. My daughter recently had a chemical peel at another About Faces location. It was the first time she tried it. She wanted me to go with her but I was skeptical due to my overly sensitive skin. I decided to let her try it first. When she got home, her skin was glowing. She actually had a glow for days thereafter. Her makeup application was also flawless. I will have to try the chemical peel one day. Nevertheless, I really enjoy this place. The facials always leave my skin on the right path and the massages are invigorating. I've been going to About Faces in Towson for several years, and I'm happy to have found a place where I always feel welcome, and while I often ask for the same cut and color as I've had in the past, my choices are never assumed by the stylist. I'm still asked, every time, what I'd like, if there's anything new or different to try, etc. It's really a collaboration, and I always feel that the stylist has listened to me. Chris J. is a treasure at About Faces and I'm grateful that he's there on weekends so I can book appointments with him easily. Schedule an appointment over a month ago for waxing and pedicure. They call less than 30 mins before my appointment because the nail tech had a cancelation. Can you come early? Well, this might be nice for some, they didnt look at the schedule to see I had other appointments starting before the pedicure. With my drive time, I was on my way to make me schedule time. How was i supposed to come earlier? Why would i get a pedicure before waxing? Ultimately, I canceled everything. I find it rude and unprofessional to call in such a short time before an appointment to ask to change time. If you want someone earlier to suit your practitioners, maybe see if they have other appointment scheduled. Maybe understand that your client has chosen a time that suits them, not the practitioners. I am done with about faces. My last pedicure had the nail tech watching tik Tok video the whole time she was supposed to be doing my pedicure. So much for my self care that I have been looking forward to for over a month. Thanks for ruining my day. They care more about the practitioners than their clients. I love this place! I come here to get custom massages by either De'Quan or Chuck and they're very professional and personal with your experience. Everyone treats you like royalty, which really helps you feel like you're getting your money's worth! Also, I got my first Brazilian wax from Lakia and she's AMAZING! She makes you feel so comfortable in your own skin, she's quick, efficient, and mature! I was a little nervous at first but I had to get this done for a photoshoot approaching, however I'm pretty sure I'll be back. The only downfall to About Face is the fact that they are very pricey for the services offered.
