We stayed almost 3 years ago (Wooden Indian). There were glitches (a fair amount) nothing horrendous. It was during the time of the transfer of ownership, things can get bumpy. I understand how difficult that can be. To Brian H: my sister replied to you when she went home to die, less than one month before she died actually. Kudos to her for having the energy to respond, as the leukemia ate her alive. What do I see in yelp reviews? I see human cruelty. It appears to me that what comes with the age of social media, we evaginate. How remarkable to see people quickly return to the Neanderthal stage of human development. I digress. It was a fab trip and the weather was great. The driveway scared me but it appeared different than it was. Getting there in the dark (after 15 hours of driving) made everything appear difficult. Exhaustion! Wooden Indian was a great home. I slept through the footsteps and doors closing the 1st night. It kept my husband up all night. I am sorry I missed it, and I am sad he did not wake me. I knew my sister would let me know she was there. Every time we mentioned her name the lights blinked. The strangest thing of all, my 3.5lb Pomeranian (who cannot do steps) was found on the leather couch when we returned from dinner out. Four of us left the house, I was the last one out.. keeping the two pups from shooting out the door. I know she was on the floor (barking and spinning as she does) when we left. Jeanette had 10 dogs... such a dog lover. I presume Jeanette was holding her before we got back? It freaked the other 3 people in our group out, not me. Les Hatfield sent an email to me 11/7/2020 telling me my reservation was cancelled because someone had booked it back in august for the same dates. Didn't call, dodged my phone calls until I called him from a number local to them. Guess he expects me to just lose my travel deposits and rearrange mine and my family's vacation 7 days before we were supposed to leave on it. He should be fired immediately. If they want me to stop leaving reviews , they can send me a check and pay for my vacation. Until then, I will continue. Jeanette, he did dodge my phone calls. I called from my personal cell number 8 times, no answer. I called once from a Canoe rental shop in Morgantown, he answered on the second ring. Then he was rude and could care less that he was destroying a vacation that I had planned a month in advance. I sent you an email and got no response as well. I had your email address from one of the 3 other times that my wife and I rented cabins from you. No answer either. We can't believe that your employee is so careless that he didn't realize something was double booked until 6 days before we were set to go on vacation. My husband and I rented Merry Memories for four nights in late July 2021. This rental company was great to work with. I booked online and quickly received an email confirmation with rental agreement. The cabin was exactly as explained in the listing. We needed separate work spaces to participate on Zoom calls periodically throughout our stay. This cabin's layout gave us exactly what we needed. The kitchen was a wonderful size and fully equipped with top notch appliances and plenty of counter space. The living area on the main floor is beautifully furnished. We found that to be the best for television viewing. There is a nice size bedroom and bathroom on the main floor as well as a beautiful dining area in addition to the bar area in the kitchen. Also a washer and dryer on the main floor located at one end of the bathroom. The layout of this cabin is very well thought out. The deck on the main floor has a large section for grilling that is not screened and another large area that is screened with very nice cushioned chairs for enjoying the mountain views. When you go upstairs from the main floor the stairs are made of logs and just gorgeous. They are not too steep so fairly easy to manuever. The upstairs has a large master suite with a massive walk-in closet and private bathroom. Another deck off this upstairs bedroom offers amazing mountain views. This deck is also nicely furnished with outdoor chairs for relaxing. When you go downstairs from the main floor, the stairs are somewhat steeper but still very manageable as there is a sturdy handrail. This downstairs area has another private bedroom and bathroom in addition to a gameroom. There is a multitude of board games and card games to choose from as well as a super cool billiard-type table with sand where you slide discs along the sand on the table to try to land in tiered score areas. I am not describing it well, but it was very fun. There is also a hot tub on this lower level. We found this cabin to be located just far enough from Blue Ridge that we could easily drive to town when we wanted to enjoy the shops and eat out or we could buy a few groceries at nearby Ingles grocery store and prepare meals in. My family rented Woodland Wonder for a for a few nights and I can not say enough about this company! Browsing their website allowed us to easily find what we were looking for although I feel like the Peak Season should be detailed better. We vacationed Memorial Day and it didn't say Memorial Day nor the date listed but we were told it counted. No biggie. The rate was OK for three nights especially for the cabin we got. The charges were broken up into three agreements which was confusing at first but once explained was understood easily. We had a few questions and the lady and gent who answered the phone were polite and informative. The directions to the cabin were also spot on. They don't have extended hours of operation so if you need to call do it early.. The cabin itself was beautiful. The parking area was small so I couldn't see us having family there as well. Despite the beauty I was disappointed by the fact there were so many cobwebs. I can understand that they will be in the mountains but it still would have been nice to be able to sit outside on the beautiful outside screened in porch or fall asleep as I had planned on the hammock. The cabin we usually rent has a deck off the main bedroom and I love the night air. The hammock was filthy so I couldn't do that either. My son had interest in playing the wii but it was dirty and didnt work. DVD player wasn't hooked up. Hubby took care of that. Last issue was the tub upstairs was leaking (plumbing) through the downstairs fan/light. Gentlemen I told was friendly and professional but we were scared to use it the rest of the stay. I DO love the little touches which made the stay great. When we walked in there was a little bag full of local items such as a couple chocolates and tea. There was also slippers for us to take with us and robes which are also sold in the office. One of my favorite touches were the toiletry bags. They included loofa, soap, the best shampoo known to mankind (really it is) and some aromatherapy. Oooo yes. Overall I think what we paid was fine especially being that we didn't have to bring toiletries and there was ample supplies like laundry pods but the fee for Holidays meh.. I don't think so. They are definitely on my radar to see what else we can experience. Thank you guys!! read more

NOT AT ALL ABOVE THE REST!!!! Very disappointed that I booked a cabin two days ago, called the next day to confirm because I had no email confirmation yet. Talked to Les who told me they were behind on paperwork he confirmed the reservation was there. I shared that I was concerned because I had no idea yet how much the total charges would be (which should have been a red flag now that I think abt it) he said we would get something today. I got my email at 12.00 today telling us sorry but this cabin was not available. I called Les who sent the email and he was so sorry ( not so much). Made me feel like this was the way they handle business. The email states because I was a repeat customer which is incorrect, but as a potential new customer they just list my business. I just returned home from our stay with some friends (for 3 nights) in the Whispering Winds cabin...and let me just say, it was AMAZING! The owners were wonderful people and prompt to answer any and all questions or concerns that we had. The cabin was splendid. It really was a great location for sunsets on the porch and breakfasts out there as well (it was screened in, so, no bugs!!) the kitchen was fully stocked and it even had a blender and spices! The hot tub was clean and lovely to enjoy. All in all, this trip was wonderful and made even better by the cabin that we rested in every night. We have stayed at a few of the Above the Rest cabins before with no problems. This trip was a DISASTER!! Started off with there being NO fire pit and not enough beds in the cabin for the number of people we specifically rented for. The listing mentioned that there were two additional futon beds, they were not there upon arrival. The management company's solution was to provide us with one blow up mattress for two children to sleep on for 7 nights! Then they deliver the air mattress and a pump that doesn't have adequate parts to blow the bed up. As soon as we arrived we noticed the cabin was not cleaned thoroughly, the refrigerator drawer was broken, the silverware drawer was broken, not enough appliances, broken appliances, the owners closet that's supposed to be locked was wide open, the hot tub was broken and wouldn't heat up, the filter to the hot tub hadn't been changed in months, the water filter to the home was absolutely disgusting as well. On the second to last day our water completely went out. We were without running water the entire day well into the evening. My son almost tumbled down the mountain cliff because all the boards outside are rotten. It totally broke underneath him and he fell down really hard and almost down the side of the mountains edge. Worst of all, we were discriminated against because of my disabled husbands USA trained and Registered service animal (which is unlawful by the way). They tried to charge us for having an animal and said we breached the contract by having her there (I told them about the service animal when we booked the cabin months before)! That is what sent me over the edge! The management company was absolutely unprofessional and downright rude. When we asked for some compensation or a nights refund due to all of the problems we had during the stay they sent a lengthy email accusing us of breaking numerous items in the cabin as well as "breaking open" the owners closet (mind you it was wide open when we checked in). They never compensated us for all of their mistakes and called their air mattress a "good faith solution" to us not having enough beds upon arrival. I've never felt so disrespected. We spent thousands to stay there and for them to accuse us of breaking things because we asked for a nights refund is absurd and super unprofessional. Don't blame your "accidental data transfer" on us...they tried to say that their mistake of having too many sleeping spaces listed was a mistake on their end, but expected us to just accept it with no problem. We rented that specific cabin because it had enough sleeping arrangements for our large family. Needless to say we will never be back. The owners were just as bad as the management crew. I'm not sure how they are professional and successful business owners with how they handle grievances. Especially with accusing people of mishaps when being confronted with problems in THEIR cabins. Good riddance Above the Rest....I wish the cabin owners knew how you handle your business and could see how their privately owned cabins are being maintained. They would be appalled! read more

My husband and I have been coming to the Blue Ridge area for over 7 years and have rented from just about every cabin rental company in the area and this is as good as they get! David and Jeanette Jenkins run a tip-top company and live up in this area of Blue Ridge/Morganton. The most recent cabin we were in was completely secluded with no less than 5 mountain peaks we were viewing from the deck. The hot tub was enclosed, along with a fireplace, but you could still catch the view and in the Winter it would keep you nice and comfortable. There were plenty of fireplaces, both wood-burning and gas throughout and plenty of firewood left out front for us, though it wasn't quite cool enough. I cant say enough about the peacefulness of the area these cabins are in and while not all of the area is paved it has been cleared and there's gravel so we could make it with the Acura and not have to bust the Landcruiser out. It's not far from Blue Ridge (and really close to Cucina Rustica :) ) so you can pop down for movie rentals, dinner, the drive-in, hiking, horseback riding...whatever your heart desires. Above the Rest also provided robes, slippers, a little gift bag and bathroom items, which is very unusual and one of the most thoughtful gestures. My family and I have rented from Above The Rest since 2013. We have rented multiple cabins for everything from a couple's getaway to our annual pre-Christmas "Catch your Breath" trip with extended family. We've rented Plane View (our favorite, and most-rented), Deer Crossing, Misty Pines, Whispering Winds, Coppertop Ridge, Sunshine in the Pines, and Southern Comfort (sadly, no longer managed by ATR). All told, we've probably stayed with them over 15 times. Bottom line: Above the Rest is truly one of the finest businesses I've ever had the pleasure to deal with. Jeanette and Company know what hospitality means. Check in is a breeze. Especially now with the new "Remote Check In." And let's hear it for keyless combination doors. Less time spent fussing with check in, more time in the cabin. We are fairly tidy guests, and always take care of our rentals. As such, we have never lost a dime of a deposit. Always credited back within the stated time. Another thing: The range of price points. Great choices to fit your crowd. During peak times, the prices go up. That's the nature of the vacation rental biz. Flip side? The off-season time (which is a HUGE chunk of the year) is one of the best bargains in lodging. Quick comment on the roads. I grew up in rural NH. Back roads are second nature to me. Blue Ridge (Morganton, actually) is MOUNTAIN country. The people who build these cabins like it that way. The main part of "My Mountain" is well paved, and curvy. The backside is dirt, and a tad adventurous. But that's literally the way the owners like it. It's a getaway. If mountain roads bother you, I'd recommend Deer Crossing. It's away from the main development, and easier to navigate to. Above The Rest has gone above and beyond for us over the years. I stayed in The Wooden Indian cabin on my vacation and I LOVED IT :) The area is so quiet and peaceful, yet it's just a short drive to anything you need. There's a Walmart Supercenter 1/2 hour away in the town of Blairsville. My sisters and I were able to do our grocery shopping there. My favorite thing about this cabin was the deck and hot tub with breathtaking views of the mountains and forest. I hope to vacation in Georgia again one day AND to stay in The Wooden Indian again. read more

We spent 5 nights in the cabin called Misty Pines, and it was wonnerful. Hard to believe this place is only 2 hours north of Atlanta... it feels like a totally different state. We saw woodchucks, bunnies, deer and we heard there were foxes living nearby, but didn't see any. Probably didn't see as much wildlife because our dog was with us. Yes! These places are pet-friendly! How cool is that! (Banjo says: VERRCOOL!) The screened-in porch (no bugs!!!) was where we ate breakfast every morning and spent most of our time. Despite the 100+ degree weather here in ATL, we found it way cooler in the mountains. All of the cabins from Above the Rest have great amenities (which are detailed on the website) and come fully stocked with anything and everything you might need... games, movies, hair dryer, colanders, cheese graters, wooden bears, extra quilts and pillows. Really, they've thought of everything you could possibly need. About a week before our vacation, the owners emailed a newsletter of events going on plus driving directions for a a scenic tour along Bald River with waterfalls along the way. This was the highlight of our trip!!!!! We LOVED it. Our kiddos were blown away. And there's no way in hell we would have found this on our own. I've rented cabins from Above the Rest three times and have had a fabulous experience each time. For our most recent stay, we rented "Southern Comfort". The prices for cabins are comparable to others in the area. Before check-in, we communicated with the owners about potentially checking in early (as we had an event the afternoon we'd be checking in), and they were very nice about letting us know as soon as our cabin was available. Our cabin was very clean upon arrival, and we loved the great welcome package we received, which included coffee, coffee filters and creamer/sugar (which of course we had forgotten). Cabins have all the modern amenities you'd hope for, including satellite TV, Heat/AC, hot tubs, modern appliances, hair dryers, blankets, etc. and we really appreciated how many puzzles and board games were included with the cabin as well. Another great feature of Above the Rest Cabins is the binder full of activities, restaurants and a list of things to do in the area. The recommendations for local eateries is separated by neighborhood/town and a lot of work clearly went into compiling these lists. We ended up going horseback riding with one of the vendors included in this binder, and had a wonderful experience that we wouldn't have known about otherwise. As far as the other reviews mentioning deposit issues, the delay in getting a deposit back is explained in great detail both before and after you check in, and we've never had an issue getting ours back. Overall I highly recommend Above the Rest Cabins, and look forward to our next visit. read more

We had a lot of fun in Blue Ridge and have been back once a year for the past three years. This time we decided to bring some friends and needed a bigger place. We decided on Above The Rest Cabin Rentals and picked Antler Lodge. We rented Antler Lodge from 6/13/21 to 6/23/21. The roads to Antler Lodge are a bit rough but manageable in a two wheel drive car. This must be expected in the mountains. The house inside and out is beautiful. There is a long flat driveway with a creek at the bottom of the property. We entered the house and were greeted with 86 degree temperatures, thermostats set to 60 degrees, and a grill that would not light without the use of multiple matches. We determined the drain pan for the AC was full and the sump pump had failed. We called the management company and they sent out their handyman promptly. He managed to get the pump to start up and he confirmed the grill ignitors did not work. The AC fix only lasted three hours before it failed again. We contacted the management company again and requested and AC service technician. After an hour of waiting for a response from the management company we used the garden hose to drain the ac and get it working again. At 11:30PM with no AC technician we called it a day and went to sleep in a warm house. Day 2 the technician came out early in the morning and confirmed the sump pump was bad but did not have a new one on hand. The AC was still working using the hose and the technician came out later that evening with a new pump. I talked to Steven from the management company and he said they pay for a service to prep the house so that everything is ready for guest arrivals. This did not happen. The room temperature in the upstairs bedroom would stay at 79 throughout the day with the thermostat set to 73 and would never reach that temp until early the following morning. The air flow to the upstairs was weak and a check of the AC system was noted to the management company which did not have it checked while we were there. Day three - Hot upstairs room with two fans running. The dining area lights did not function. We determined that breaker 11 was to blame and reset it. Day 4 - breaker 11 tripped again and was reset. Management company was notified but nothing was done. Day 5 - Breaker 11 tripped again and we gave up resetting the breaker and put a lamp on the kitchen table so we could eat with light. The silverware drawer was found to not close properly and we discovered that one of the drawer slides was being held together with duct tape causing the drawer not to close. This was relayed to the management company. Other items that needed attention were the hot tub lid arm was broken and would not hold the lid in place properly while using the hot tub. Twice the upstairs bathroom breaker tripped and the breaker was reset. All of these items were relayed to the management company to provide feedback on our experience. We were told that they had purchased the company last year and are still getting to know their properties and they were aware of the bad breaker but thought that it had been fixed. They also thought their guest arrival pre-check service was done as well. We did request a partial refund for the two days we had AC issues as it only seemed fair. We were told that "our contract.....". They finally agreed to provide us a 20% refund for the first night. It has been a month and with follow up calls we have not seen that refund. Take this review for what its worth when looking for a cabin rental company and/or cabin to rent. read more

This was the second booking we made with 'Above the Rest' in the last two months. The first time we waited over a month for the return of our deposit, and only received it after chasing. Given our previous experience we chased for our deposit after 10 days rather than leaving it a month. This is the response we got: "The refund are processed on our end in 7-10 days. It's day 10. 95% of the time I get them done in 7 days or sooner. If this is the last $350 you have in your entire world, then I'm thinking a mountain vacation might not have been the best idea. I cannot please you. You should probably find a company that can." Clear they need to look up the meaning of 'Luxury' and then apply it to customer service rather than just their name. read more

Where do I even begin. After having rented from them in the past we felt confident we would get the same or better treatment. We and 2 friends rented Wooden Indian which was so great,until the plumbing issues started 12 hours after we arrived. Our friend was taking a morning shower and I was downstairs in the kitchen. The next thing I heard was water pouring out of the ceiling onto the dining room table and rug. ALSO, our friend said there was sewage coming up through the drain. So we called a so called emergency number at 9AM and no one answered. We continued to try to talk to someone but no response. an hour later a so called maintenence man shows up at the door and informs us that a plumber was there 2 weeks ago to fix everything. NOT. They had to move us to another cabin which involved packing up our food and clothes and moving. The second cabin was a house in a gated community NOT a CABIN. We left there and went to the so called office where we were told to wait outside while the manager got his computer so we could look at possibilities of cabins to stay at. We were told to go to Mountain View Lodge which we did. When we arrived the cleaning girl was still there so we waited for her to leave. I was gonna take a nice hot bath after riding around all day while they figured out what to do with us. I saw that the tub was filthy so I called again, no to mention the floors were so dirty with bugs and there were no dressers or tvs in any of the bedrooms. The closets were all stacked with blankets, sheets towels and vaccum clreaners so there wasnt anywhere to put our stuff so we cleaned and moved all the stuff out to the unfinished basement. The thermostat never worked properly and I had asked them to please make sure things worked. I copuld go on and on but the bottom line is PLEASE don't ever rent from these people. They have no idea what they are doing and they are totally clueless about running a business. By te way, my husband had Covid on the dates we were supposed to come and I even sent his hospital records and they basically told us, Oh well. Steve and Taylar and John and some lady Katherine who had no idea what she was talking about. The worst vacation ever thanks to these people who are the most unprofessional people we have ever dealt with NIGHTMARE. By the way, we never received ANY compensation for this nightmare read more

RUN, don't walk, away from this company. My husband and I rented this cabin in May 2016. On the day of arrival, my husband noticed that the refrigerator was not cool. He contacted the rental agency and the company immediately sent out someone to investigate. As it turns out, the refrigerator was plugged into a GFCI switch which was causing the outlet to trip and turn off. The handy man reset the breaker and was on his way when I arrived. That evening we placed leftover catered food in the refrigerator. The following morning, the refrigerator was off again, causing the food to spoil. We contacted the company again and the same man visited. This time, he ran an extension cord to the refrigerator so that it was not plugged into a GFCI outlet, as doing so it against building code. We were very grateful for his prompt response. The following day, we ventured into the lower level for the first time and my husband discovered that a floor lamp's shade was falling apart and hanging haphazardly. He carefully removed the glass shade, placed it aside and PROMPTLY emailed ABTR to notify them as to what we discovered. I photographed noted lampshade. At this time I also noted a broken railing outside on the balcony that was not marked with any sort of sign or caution tape. To fall off this railing would result in injury. I photographed this as well. Following our stay, we followed up with ABTR to inquire as to why we had not received our deposit back. We received a SCATHING email from the company that is unmatched in any of my experience. Although we had not mentioned the food lost with the refrigerator incident, they went on to berate us with the multiple reasons why it was not their fault and that the food was not spoiled and also that the owner had spoken with me and I was "not concerned". I did not attack a service person whose presence was merely to assist us. That does not translate into not concerned but instead signifies a well meaning person. Regarding food spoilage, I have contacted my company's Food Safety Manager and he is providing a detailed report regarding food safety and temperature levels. The most unfathomable thing regarding the entire refrigerator situation is that we did not mention that in our inquiry or seek reimbursement of any kind. Following this review, you will most likely see a reply from the owner that attacks our character and that will claim that we have no accountability in regards to our actions. That is their MO. Read the past negative reviews, they will negate and not take ownership in their actions. ABTR cabins will claim to "tell the truth" and hide behind their computer. In short what I am warning you of is this: The owner refuses to return a deposit at ALL COSTS. Please please beware and read the reviews on Trip Advisor! Who knew that your own private paradise could be found just hours from Atlanta? Well it can, and the friendly folks at Above the Rest have it all down to a science. Preview the cabins online, book online, and beat the traffic. We packed a cooler full of yummy indulgent treats, followed the FANTASTIC directions, and were warmly greeted in the office. We got some cool info on stuff going on in town, a local guide, two sets of keys, and directions to our weekend home. We were floored immediately. Breathtaking views greeted us immediately. Its simply gorgeous up here. I was worried that the cabin was going to be, I don't know, maybe dark or dusty, but it was sparkling clean, well light and truly fully stocked. And by fully stocked I'm not kidding. We oohed and ahhed over an ice cream maker, cast iron cornbread skillets, pots and pans galore, even a sweater shaver!!!! Seriously. If they don't have what you need, you are doing too much. We were greeted by fresh air and melodious tunes. Absolutely perfect after a long day of work and a semi hellish drive through Atlanta. We wanted a space where each one of us could have our own space to relax and unwind, and the Wooden Indian was huge. Little one loved the teepee sleeping space with little campfire, and the adults amongst us appreciated the spacious bedroom suites and double sinks. Bonus was the expansive basement area with pool table, dartboard, washer and dryer as well as a kids compound with double bunks, stuffed animals and another bathroom. Their website is top notch and the pictures are legit. Wonderful company. Totally a fan. Here's to getting away!! read more

Couldn't have asked for anything more! Our cabin had the most amazing view, a hot tub and even a fenced in back yard for our black lab. We woke up and had coffee every morning while rocking in a chair on the porch looking at the mountains. Every night we lit a fire and relaxed. Best sleep we have ever gotten! This could have been a great experience with a few minor bumps. The cabin was nice and spacious and my parents were celebrating 40 years of marriage. During the first day, we had a few minor concerns (2 bad TV's, broken door handle and TP dispenser), which should have been easily resolved. Instead, the owners took 6 days to respond and did not offer an apology or concern for our being inconvenienced. Then, worse of all, after sending them a courteous email to share our disappointment in their customer service, their response was rude and condescending. They told us that our complaints were minor when compared to soldiers sleeping on the ground in foreign countries (REALLY??) and that I should really blame my brother, who complained during the trip about not having a TV for 6 of our 7 days there. This is no joke and I'd be glad to send you a copy of the email if you don't believe me. Sigh...again, I don't want to be or seem embittered, but I am REALLY disappointed in how the owners treated their customers and would NOT recommend this experience to anyone else. My husband and I have been renting from Above the Rest for about ten years now and we have never had anything but an amazing experience. Each time we stay in a different rental and they have all been immaculate. The hosts, aka the Jenkins have never been anything but hospitable and helpful in every way. We would never dream of renting anywhere else and our dogs feel the same. These cabins truly are above the rest!! read more

We just made our second visit to the Cherokee Lodge, and had an amazing time. The accommodations are cozy, clean, and well-maintained. The staff is very friendly and quick to answer any questions. We highly recommend this cabin, and Above the Rest Cabins in general. It's the perfect place to make some special memories. read more
