A technician came out the same day I called, but I was not told this and I was not home, fortunately, a friend was using my kitchen and let him in. The technician said I needed new batteries and a new charger for my stairlift and emailed me what to get and where to get it. He was wrong about the charger. It just needed a new fuse. An invoice was emailed to me, which I never received. Today I was called and told I owed $214.74, although, I was originally only told of a $145 an hour charge. I was told the rest was probably a travel charge. When I said I had not been told about the travel charge, that part of the bill should have been dropped. (Frankly, they should have been able to tell me over the phone what the problem was since they were wrong about the charger and did not even look at the chair itself.) read more

Charged for two plumbers on a simple job that did not require two plumbers. This seems to be the practice. Asked for a reevaluation of the invoice and was told it was correct. Sending two plumbers out when they are not needed and charging for two plumbers seems to be their MO. They charge from the time they leave one job until they are finished with your job. Also replaced the entire faucet rather than a simple packing job. I do not recommend this company and will be filing a complaint with the BBB. read more

Electricians are difficult to find in this area. Years ago we used Aboveboard Electric and were hoping they had improved their service. When I telephone the office I was refused service in an abrupt and rude manner by the woman who answered the phone. I run a business and have never had such an unprofessional encounter. I went to the Oregon Contractors Board and looked up their license only to see they have a filed complaint against them by a home owner this year. read more

Unprofessional. I scheduled an appointment and an employee came out and spent time looking at everything to provide an estimate. The estimate never came. I called every couple weeks to inquire about the estimate. The very friendly receptionist kept noting that they're working on it. Four months passed and still no estimate. I was more than happy to find Alsea Electric who was courteous, timely, and finished the work on time and at a great price. read more

It was not long ago that I wrote a very complimentary review for this company after they added another power line to our home. Oops! I was a bit premature in my praise. Since then I have needed assistance for 2 minor electrical issues and they came, on short notice, and rectified the situations. However...I thought this company was different and not simply after the money. WRONG. The first issue was resolved quickly but billed for overtime (I wasn't informed in advance) and it cost me over $250 to install a switch and replace the plate. Maybe 10-15 minutes. The second issue was (I think) related to their work installing our additional power line to an outlying barn. The first time I started my dishwasher after the power work, it stopped and wouldn't restart. So too for the garbage disposal. Both are on the same circuit. They both always started before the work. Always. Their tech showed and, after 1 hour plus, found "some loose things" in the panel box. Once tightened all worked fine. During the power line install the techs had been in and out of the panel box a number of times...even moving some things around. Apparently this was not related...evidence the bill which I felt should have been a n/c as not our fault. Certainly there was some speculation as to why these 2 stopped working. No discussion. No fault of the company. We were charged again for $200+ for a service call and repair. Shame on me. This company like many was, and is, "just after the money!" Service with a bill!!! read more

I have used these guys in the past for electrical and they were good. I used them for plumbing this time and I feel they were a little unreasonable. They sent to plumbers for a small leak. One was on his phone the whole time. The parts were $23 dollars and they charged me $835. I called and they said I was being charged for 2 at $100 per hour and an hour travel for each. I wasn't even informed they were sending 2. Another company had cut the ceiling out and showed them where it was leaking. I appreciate they came out in a day or so but seriously this is outrageous. You should be given the option of paying for 2. They arrived 8:30. Called me at 10:09 they were leaving. If you think this is fair then they are for you. But I won't use them again. read more

Charged me $211 just to go out and tell me 2 outlets didn't work in living room (already knew this), and living room ceiling fan and bathroom ceiling fan didn't work. Already knew this! That's why I had them come out to give me estimate on how much to fix it!! No estimate at all! Just told me they don't work and well like I said, I already knew this!! Where's estimate to fix it? I will be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau in Newport, OR as well. read more

Called and talked to the office gal; just wanted to know if they could find a break in the underground line to the pump of our water source. No callback. Waited 2 days and called again. Office gal said she would check with the boss. It's been a week now and still no response. I get that everyone's super busy but the office gal is too busy to call and say, "Sorry, we don't have the equipment or the time."??? I definitely would recommend Above Board to anyone looking for an electrician. It was a nice surprise that the electrical work for our new heat pump was finished in just a day. The work was done quickly with very little disruption. The electrician, Dwight was great. He was personable and professional and worked in sync with the HVAC crew that was on site at the same time. I appreciate that there were no surprises and that the bill came in at the low end of the estimate. We'll be using Above Board again. read more

EXTORTION! Spit on me & my baby while yelling in my face when I asked them to fix errors on the bill --2 hours for a bunch of chat & 30 minutes work. OVERPRICED -$650!!! + $20 added on a $60 permit. The receptionist is rude & talks over you. If you go to their tiny office, they send electricians in like bouncers to corner you in a 2'x5' space between the wall & counter to yell at you "Pay it or not?!" I was holding a baby! Bullies. Quietly stood back when I brought in my (bigger) husband. They'll turn you to collections on day 7 when the bill is due 30 days from when the receptionist drafts it... and mails it. She's somebody's wife btw. Don't let them into your house! Unless you want a LIEN! They sit in the driveway while GPS trackers clock time. And they ask you if you're intelligent enough to comprehend that it takes a billable hour to pack their utility van with an outlet cover & a screwdriver. Bumped into the owner's relative & she confirmed it's a scam. 40,000 customers a year the owner boasted --while scraggly unkept kids run around the warehouse. Have mercy on them when you lay them low, but I warned everybody: SCAM!!! read more

We called this business as we knew and like one of their electricians Dwight. We requested him for wiring a sump pump and he did a great job so we called them again to hang an entry light and to handle some electrical in our bedroom. For those projects they sent an apprentice and journeyman. The first go around brought a nice apprentice but a cocky journeyman who took hours figuring out how to hang the light with many attempts to get it right though it was pre-assembled by my husband- we just did not have a tall enough ladder to do ourselves. Next up was the bedroom outlets and junction boxes. In the process of removing one of the boxes, they cut a plumbing pipe spraying water into the room. Thankfully we had no flooring installed yet. Journeyman basically said it was our fault the electrical box was so close to the pipe and that he was unsure when it could be fixed both the leak and the electrical. The owner Randy did send a plumber that day to fix leak at no cost to us and then the next day same apprentice and different journeyman both of whom were professional, efficient and friendly. Our bill arrived yesterday. Imagine the shock of being charged for 6:5 hours of time for the day 1 debacle. We are all for supporting your workers and billing for time spent but considering the delay, mistakes, poor attitude on day 1 this represents poor customer service and we will go elsewhere next time. read more

I have used Aboveboard Electric many times in the past and have always found that they did an excellent job and billed correctly. I wasn't aware but there is a new owner now of this business and things have changed I'm afraid to say. First they sent the journeyman and an apprentice to the job, it was the first day on the job for the apprentice. So you can imagine this does slow down the journeyman on showing him what to do. Even if you take all of that out, they bill for 6 hours for the Journeyman and 7 hours for the apprentice when they were just at the site for 4 hours, adding drive time puts it at 4.5 hours. When I informed them that camera at the front of the community records who comes and goes, so I had proof of when they were at the residence they would look into the bill. Then when owner finally called he was trying to explain that they had all this time in job off site that they were billing for. He said they came out to take pictures of the meter box, which was a lie as I took the pictures myself and texted them to the journeyman. Then owner said well he has two hours into finding the meter box and he should get paid for his time. It took me two seconds to find the meter box on line, so I don't believe it took someone in the field 2 hours to find one. Then there was time throwing way stuff from the job etc. It goes on and on, bottom line they billed more hours then the job took and lied about it. I have filed a BBB complaint as I do not like when people lie about things and just bill whatever they want to. I just want to be billed for what the actual hours for the job is, not trying to get a deal or short change anyone. read more
