This is the least organized book store I have ever been in. The owner is very nice but I doubt he even knows what he has. There are several sections that say "miscellaneous ask for price", so I really can't tell you my thoughts on the price of the used books. It would be a good place if you want to go on a "blind date" with s book but not if you are looking for anything in particular. read more

Ok this place cracked me up. Owner was sitting in the doorway when we walked in and said he could help us find things if we wanted. It was bright outside and when we walked in couldn't see anything. It is SOOO dark inside that I had to wait for my eyes to adjust. It looked like a hoarders paradise with books literally everywhere! On shelves, floors, in corners, on desks. It was amazing. They are nicely arranged by genre but there ain't no Dewey Decimal system going on here. Genres also don't have books alphabetized so you have to go row by row to find what you want. I had a blast. Daughter found a book and told me and the owner that this is what she wants her house to look like when she gets her own place. read more

If you are a used book fanatic, this is what you dream about finding and possibly where you want to spend eternity after you die. Quiet, historic building, darkly lit....with piles of books bordering between organized and unorganized, creaking wood floors, and a knowledgeable owner. Plus, the beach is right there across the street. Nice life, eh? Like any used book store, I would spend hours and hours here. The collection here is very, very well curated - and you can just tell that the owner doesn't put crap up on the shelves (although I intentionally avoided the Romance section). While I was there I roamed freely without any interruption (which I appreciate) -- I did overhear the owner take a few calls from customers, and answer some questions about what he has in stock or what he would be interested in buying -- man, what a genuinely nice guy who knows his stuff! The location is a lot bigger inside than you might think, and the subjects & authors were pretty well organized. Most book prices hovered around $7-$10; some were about 50% of the original retail prices - but there are some gems in here that are great finds and go for more. I really appreciated that related topics were grouped near each other, which makes for seamless browsing as you jump from one section to the next. What more can be said really....you either like old used book stores or you don't. If you do, Abraxas is what's up. read more

4.5 stars. I absolutely love places like this. I will first say that some things could be a bit improved. Breathing in there is not the greatest, and I have no allergies. Bookstores are musty, but the "must" was strong with this one. It could use a good sweeping and some fumigation. I do however know that there was flooding here, so this could be a moot point. Also, some of the shelves themselves were a little precarious, tilting over to a concerning degree. Lastly, let me say that I personally don't at all mind stacks of books on the floor; I rather like them actually. I dig and move and such and have a good time, but some passers-by might be deterred, and miss some of the selection. That said, it is a fairly well organized and great selection of quality books, old and newer books alike, all mixed together. I'm not really a fiction reader, so I was pleased by the selection of non-fiction. The character of the store is fantastic. Hailing from dreary New York City, I was happy to be in Florida's beautiful weather. But, I'm not used to so much sun, and believe it or not, being in a dark bookstore was a welcome break for a half hour or so. I love the owner's eclectic art and interest of the mystical, magical, and metaphysical. He was also very friendly and offered discounts. Quite frankly, I'd pay the guy $20 just to hear about his life. Despite little blemishes, I give this store my very highest recommendation to everyone, particularly bookworms. I'm pulling for it to stay alive and well, especially in what I might politely call...an unlikely town for such a store. I'll be back. read more

We came down from Jacksonville and wanted to shop at Abraxas. Owner said the store was open until 6 p.m. and we got there at 4:30. The sign said "Open" but they were closed with no explanation. I called and admittedly wasn't terribly friendly in my message. Someone else came up behind us so at least two customers were lost. I posted on FB asking why they were closed - no answer. I later asked in a private message - not nasty, just inquiring and disappointed since we won't be in the area to shop there again. The owner had a CONNIPTION and started cussing me out! COMPLETELY unprofessional! He said he had to close to take a friend to the hospital. I immediately responded that I was sorry this happened and hoped his friend was okay. He responded about how I was a shitty, self-centered person and went ON and ON about how I was NEVER to try to EVER shop in his store! He doesn't need to worry as I don't have any desire to shop in his store after being treated this way. As a former store owner myself, I mentioned that, had he scribbled a sign saying "Sorry - Family Emergency" and turned off the OPEN sign, this conversation would never have happened. We would have been disappointed, of course, but would have gone on our way and hoped whatever happened had a good outcome. But this sorry owner turned my simple question into World War III. I have NEVER encountered anyone who runs a business THIS unethically and with this much disregard for potential customers! read more

Today I met the coolest person I've ever met in this quadrant of the United States. I never did catch his name, but he owns this store, and he is the personification of a Master. He's met a lot of people and has a lot of stories, and knows enough to run a proper bookstore. His inventory is sublime. This is curated bookstore, and he is confident enough in his enterprise that he knows it is definitive; he answers the phone, "Bookstore." Boom. We found our way there because there was a parade of pickup trucks flying Confederate flags making a circle and driving up our beach, over and over. We wondered if they were armed and looking to provoke a confrontation. One of our party, asked, "Where is that bookstore?" and we agreed that it was time to go check it out. They probably wouldn't follow us there. If you are within driving distance of Daytona Beach, and have enough shelf space, go there. He has something that would interest you. read more

Rotting books in the window - Rotting books on the shelves inside. This book store has really gone to hell in the last few years since it was flooded two years ago during Hurricane Irma. No one seems to be looking after it anymore. Most of the lights don't seem to work and it is a dimly lit rotting mess inside with ripped out floors, books literally rotting on the shelves and books stacked on the floor everywhere blocking access to the dust laden shelves. It is such a shame as years ago this store was a little book lovers haven here in Daytona Beach. read more

I don't get impressed by much when it comes to bookstores, but this one got me. Absolutely amazing, I was braced by the sheer variety of selection. Set aside several hours to explore. I've visited this bookstore 3 times over the course of year. It has, I'm sure, a lot of gems but they are probably hidden behind piles of books. It's one of the most disorganized used bookstores I've been in. But, that may have been due to a storm that hit the coast and flooded his store. It has a musty smell and darkly lit. While that may provide a romantic ambiance for those that profess to be "book lovers", it's not a great setting to find a book. read more

Five Stars, hands down. This is what a used bookstore should be. Perfect atmosphere... high ceilings, old bookcases filled with books, stacks everywhere, thousands of books, yet still somehow in good order. A little intimidating at first but I had no problem finding my way around as everything is clearly labeled. They had an impressive selection of history and fine art, architecture, and photography books. I left with a small carton of books, many that I had been seeking for some time. The prices were very fair and appropriate. The owner is extremely knowledgeable not just about his stock but about books in general and is like an eccentric (in a good way) character out of a book himself. When I was there he also had a smart pretty young woman helping him. Also the obligatory bookstore cat patrolling around the shop. Definitely an afternoon well spent!
