We weren't even tempted to try the numerous, highly rated restaurants in Valladolid (only a 15 minute drive South). The menu is limited, but everything is delicious here. If you're staying at the hotel, Hacienda Kaan AC, breakfast is complimentary and simply amazing. They serve a three course meal starting with sliced fruit, local pastries, and ending with a dish showcasing eggs as the main protein. The selection changes daily, but it ranges from huevos rancheros to omelettes. Each breakfast is accompanied by coffee and freshly squeezed local juices; ranging from orange to watermelon. Dinners are phenomenal. After returning from our daily hikes through the local ruins, nothing is better than being treated to cold beer and expertly mixed margaritas. If you like malty, dark beers similar to Negro Modelo, make sure to try León, which was originally brewed in Mérida, Yucatán. Their best dish is their house specialty chicken, which is served in an white sauce derived from peppers (we think). However, their fish and steaks are top notch too. Please note that steaks in Mexico are different from the US; they are cut thinner and flavored with regional spices. Typically they are served with onions/peppers too. Don't expect the thick cut ones you'll find in the US and I suggest ordering it Medium (most places don't even offer a choice). I absolutely loved the beef I was served, but I wanted to give a heads up. Final notes: The hotel and restaurant are separate; meaning you can't charge food/beverages to your room. They do accept credit cards, but local storms may cause the machine to be temperamental. They don't really have typical hours. They serve breakfast and dinner, but you may need to walk around and look for the attendant or, if not present, the cook, who'll run and grab a waiter for you.

As a recommendation from our nice waiter, we ordered the focaccia bread, and it was amazing. Chewy, covered in garlic oil and fresh out of the oven, you cannot go wrong with bread like this. Since my family all loves Italian food, we decided to try this place. The restaurant is close to the main plaza in Valladolid. When we arrived, we were greeted by the owner, a real Italian Nona sitting in the garden. It was then, I realized this place was the real deal for Italian food. The garden has beautiful plants growing and although it was a bit warm we were comfortable. A fan would have helped but I settled for a cold drink. The menu is small and everything tastes fresh. I had potato truffle ravioli with cream sauce. It was hearty and flavorful. The truffle gave the dish an excellent depth without being overpowering. Our kids ordered a more simple pasta with meat sauce, which they loved. My son had a fresh lemonade, which was perfect after a long hot walk, and I had an ice-cold glass of white wine. Our dinner was delicious, and the service was friendly and fast. Prices were very affordable and we left feeling satisfied and happy.
