Had a smog check and it was quick and easy - got me in the same day and I was in and out in under 20 minutes. Very friendly.

They fixed it in a few days and said everything was fine -- but when I picked it up, there was still a small line seeping coolant. In my view, a repair means the problem is fixed completely, not halfway. I paid $800. A few months later, the low coolant warning came on while I was driving home. Since they had already repaired this exact issue, I had the car towed back to them, expecting they might stand behind their work. Then the fun began. Every morning they promised the car would be ready by evening; every evening it turned out they didn't even know what the problem was yet. This went on for SEVEN days. It got comical: one mechanic would redirect me to another, saying "he went home, I don't know what's going on with your car -- someone else was working on it." They eventually "fixed" it, and this time I paid $1,200 because they "worked on it for a long time." When I picked up the car, another line was sweating coolant -- "nothing to worry about," they said. On top of that, their invoices are anything but transparent: no OEM part numbers, just vague descriptions like "part coolant upper hose." On the second invoice, $900 of labor is a single line with no hours or rate breakdown -- while their own first invoice shows they know how to itemize labor when they want to. There is no way to verify what was actually installed or compare part prices. I have both invoices. The finale: on Friday, July 10 -- three months after the second repair -- the low coolant warning came on again. Third failure of the same system in six months, $2,000 total. The car has now been sitting at their shop for 4 days. Yesterday I warned them I had a long trip coming and needed the car; they assured me it would be ready. When I called, the same old excuses started: the mechanic who worked on it "went to the doctor, and I don't know anything about your car." When I asked them to call him and find out, nothing happened. Bottom line: if you want to keep your nerves, be treated like a human being, not be strung along, and not overpay -- avoid this place. For the money I've spent, I could have had this fixed at a BMW dealership without any of these problems. By the way, the car is a 2019!

I put it off for over a year before finally bringing it to this shop earlier this year specifically for a brake bleed. I even supplied my own premium DOT 4 brake fluid. I understood there would be no warranty because I provided the fluid. A few months later, in May, I returned for a full safety inspection. Their own inspection showed that the brake fluid was green/brown and in poor condition--the exact same problem I had paid them to address. At that point, I called and left a voicemail explaining that from my perspective it looked like the reservoir may have simply been topped off while I was charged for a full brake service. I told them I would gladly listen if there was a legitimate explanation. The explanation I received was that a brake bleed "doesn't change the fluid, it just removes air." That statement raised even more questions. Brake fluid exits the system during a bleed. New fluid is added during the process. Yet somehow, after paying for the service, the fluid condition was still reported as poor. The proposed solution was even worse. Rather than standing behind the work or explaining why the fluid was still contaminated, I was offered another brake fluid exchange for over $200. In other words, after already paying once to address the issue, I was being asked to pay again. I'm a college student. I don't have money to throw away on services that fail to solve the problem they were supposed to solve. What bothered me most was not even the money--it was the complete lack of accountability. If your brake fluid is discolored and you are paying this shop to address it, keep your receipts and verify the results afterward. I did, and the paper trail speaks for itself. Based on my experience, I have serious doubts about the value and quality of the brake service performed here, and I will not be returning.

That alone cost $400. Afterward, we were told an additional $1,100 in repairs were required--many of which were grossly overpriced. For example, the tires they quoted were nearly double what I could have purchased at a tire shop. A rear fender reflector--$7.99 on Amazon--was quoted at $30 here, with the excuse that it had to be OEM from VW. Fine. We waited two weeks for the part to arrive, only to be told they ordered the wrong reflector. Another week passed before the correct one came in. When we finally returned, the reflector installation took 15 minutes. I specifically asked if we could wait for it, but was told to leave the car because it was "in a long line" and might not be ready until the next day. Thirty minutes later, I got a call saying it was done. In total, this required four separate trips, over 100 miles of driving, and not once did we receive an apology, acknowledgment of mistakes, or any offer of a discount. Instead, I was met with dismissive responses like "it is what it is" and "it's always something." The person I dealt with was snarky, condescending, and completely unconcerned with customer service. Mistakes happen--but the attitude and lack of accountability here were unacceptable. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone.

I've also recommended them to many friends and family over the years. Unfortunately, my most recent experience has caused me to lose confidence in their inspections and workmanship. I brought my car in for an oil change, coolant service, and a comprehensive inspection, specifically asking them to investigate what I believed was an exhaust leak. During check-in, the advisor even commented that they could smell exhaust in the engine bay. At the end of the day, however, I was told no exhaust leak could be found. Within a week, I took the car to the dealership for a second opinion because I was still concerned. They immediately identified a cracked exhaust manifold. Their inspection also found brake pads measuring only about 4-6 mm remaining on all four wheels, despite Big Brand's inspection having rated the brakes as being in good condition. During that visit, the dealership also pointed out that my oil pan is badly deformed around the drain plug and told me the damage is consistent with someone using excessive force to remove a stuck drain plug. Big Brand has performed every oil change on this vehicle for roughly the last 80,000 miles, and I recall a previous visit where I was told the drain plug had been seized and was difficult to remove. After inspecting the oil pan myself, I found the deformation is severe enough that accessing the drain plug with normal tools is now difficult, and there's no longer enough clearance to install a Fumoto drain valve. I understand that no shop is perfect, and I wouldn't be writing this over a single missed item. What disappointed me was the combination of missing the issue I specifically asked them to diagnose, rating my brakes much more favorably than another inspection performed just days later, and the apparent damage to my oil pan after years of servicing my vehicle. I'm hoping Big Brand will step up and make things right, because until this experience I had been happy to recommend them.
