tried to charge me $1500 for a part that isn't even in my car. My "booster was internally damaged" and the "vacuum would hold." My car has ABS. wtf. He was covering for the service rep who was out that day, but was very thorough and gave me an estimate via text which I could approve. He then informed me as to the approximate time to complete the service, which allowed me to walk downtown Slo and know that I would be notified by text if there would be any further repairs requested and upon the completion of the car service. Stopped by to get my vehicle serviced. Dropped it off and it was done within a decent time considering the fact that they where busy that day. The texts with the updates is very convenient. The gentleman when I picked up my vehicle mentioned that there was a part that they forgot needed to be replaced on my quote but installed a new one (gasket) anyways! That was great. I've been to Certified Auto Repair in SLO twice and both times they have been outstanding. Gonzalo was awesome at getting my car in to be worked on and the whole team is so professional and very positive (it's a great atmosphere). Most recently, I had a long drive the next day and my check engine light went off so I took it in. They have a really great system that sends you the report of diagnostics that they run so you have background which is super helpful and allows you to see in order of priority what should be worked on. They were able to get a fix done that day and I was able to be on my way. It's also in a great location so you can drop your car off and walk into downtown to hangout at a coffee shop while you wait. My car has been having troubles since the day I bought it, but I bought it at a low price and just assumed that it being a little shaky was the price I paid for that. 9 months later and it was completely unsafe to drive. Not only did my windshield wipers fail and my turn signals blink 4x the speed they should have, but I was having a really hard time driving at basically any speed. At 40mph the shaking starts, jolting to the left but pulling to the right. I could no longer take the freeway or go over the grade to visit family. I had tried getting new tires, having my wheels rotated and balanced, and all the tips and tricks the internet gave me and nothing worked. I decided it was time to take it in to a real mechanic that might actually know what was going on. Shopped around on google and yelp to see if there was a place that had good reviews, I was hoping to find a place with four stars, and then I came across Certified Auto Repair. #1 rated by Cal Poly? I'm a college student, so to me that means that they don't completely take advantage of college kids who don't know anything about cars. Booked my appointment and was told I could bring it in any time on Monday morning. Went in, got a quote for a fill inspection, and it was pretty much the exact price that a friend of the family mechanic told me to expect. Left the shop, and less than 5 hours later they knew exactly what was going on with my car. Turns out, it wasn't even the suspension or simply the balance which is what other mechanics had suspected; my brake system was completely screwed. Expecting $2,500, I got my quote for less than $1,500, and they gave me a 10% student discount off labor! I was ecstatic, because since we lowballed the price of the car, the expense of fixing it up was less than the listing price + the price we paid. They told me it would be done by Thursday, but yesterday I got the call that it was done already! I picked up the car and took it for a long drive on the freeway - I've never been so happy to go the speed limit. My windshield wipers work, turn signals don't blink 30mph, and best of all, I actually feel safe driving my own car. Thank you so much C.A.R! Had to get an oil change and get a second opinion on certain repairs before I paid a ton of money and moved forward with the process! I used to go to Landis but they currently are unavailable so I was told good things about Certified Auto Repair. I also had a holiday postcard in the mail from them with free windshield wipers with an oil change purchase. One huge bonus is I can walk there from my house so I was able to go home while my car was getting fixed up. My oil change was done in about 40 minutes, and Sam called me to let me know I need a new cabin air filter as well. He gave me a good price over the phone and worked on it while I was walking back. I got helpful recommendations about a few other replacements needed, and the final price for the day was reasonable! I also called Wednesday morning and was able to get an appointment Thursday appointment which is always a plus than having to wait another week or so. Overall, great experience, phenomenal customer service, convenient location- I'll definitely be back! They also charged me over $800 for an oil change and diagnostics on the leak. They always seemed shady to me but I went anyways. Had some major car problems when we were on vacation in Pismo and called around to a few places for estimates. Certified auto repairs estimate was at least $100 over what my mechanic from home told me it should run. When I found someone with a estimate of 1/2 the price of what certified estimate was I called back and told them thanks but I have found a better price. The salesman than asked me who and how much and when I told him he snickered and said yeah good luck with those guys (completely unprofessional and unnecessary). Coming from a family that owns automotive repair facilities I know what things cost and I know how to not be taken advantage of, be careful coming here they seem like the kind of sales guys who would take advantage of someone but if nothing else they are very unprofessional and unhelpful. I got a tail light replaced here today without any problems. Within minutes of me asking for a quote on yelp, I got a response from the owner who told me to come by pretty much whenever worked for me. (And they gave me an actual $ value quote of the most I should expect for it to cost - it was very low. Other companies did not give me as low of a quote or gave me no quote at all and just told me to come in so they could do a free check.) The lot was packed and the waiting room were small, but it didn't matter because I was out of there within 20 minutes with a working light! As a bonus, all the people I interacted with here were friendly and seemed genuinely kind. (Also, the owner's dog was around and was really sweet!) Overall great experience. A few days ago, my brother and I got a friendly warning from our Boys in Blue that a rear brake light had kicked the bucket. I visited the shop a few hours before closing fully expecting to say goodbye to the car for a few days while the electrical gremlin was found. Instead, a technician immediately came out, pinpointed a burnt bulb, and replaced it for free. The staff are incredibly friendly, and I spent the whole time chatting and feeling like I was a part of the family there. For old car this place is a must! For all the work they did on my boyfriend's old car trying to test for and eliminate the problem - they honestly undercharged him. Considering all the errors within old cars have to be troubleshot manually the turn around time was super fast (about a week). Won't be going back here, over priced, had my sway bar end links replaced, $118 for labor, which is nuts bc there's 2 bolts to each one, also was charge like $188 for a pair, I get them installed, still have the receipt and today I was changing my oil and see both end links have just snapped off!! After 4 months? Like what kind of parts are they using...absolutely unacceptable. I went online and ordered new ones which are very nice for $76, they are much better than these trash ones that were put on my car for $188, I bet it only costs the shop like $30...complete rip off and unacceptable they snapped within 4 months, won't be back, and do yourself a favor and stay away, place sucks. read more
