I got free tickets thanks to Yelp so I invited my friends (Christina P., Lesly N., Gabby H. and her mum). THE NUTCRACKER -- The ballet performance on 21 December 2019 was put on by students ranging from elementary school age to high school. The students performed awesome. I especially loved the part of the show with all the foreign dancing. My favourite were the acrobatics style dancers who did twists, turns, and flips (the female was dressed like the character from Disney's Aladdin). They were really flexible and excellent. Overall, the young male and female ballet dancers from the whole show were great. LOCATION -- The Westlake Performing Arts Center is on the grounds of Westlake High School. The school campus is huge as evident from the large parking lot. I recommend coming to watch a show here. Of course, the production you may see probably won't be as grand as a show at Playhouse Square in downtown Cleveland but it will still be worth it. The animal area now has interactive exhibits. Lots for kids to learn about wildlife, water pollution, etc. they even have a history of ship building of Lorain with some fun exhibits on display. This was a show simply for moms to see their children in a musical. It was about 70% children, which is definitely not how this show was advertised, however simply having a lot of kids in a show isn't a deal breaker. I'm not hating on the kids, but all I'm saying is all those awards I see these kids winning on Facebook have a lot less grandeur to them now. The real problem was the absolutely horrible directing. None of the actors were in character the entire first half, and when they were, it wasn't exactly right. The actresses, when expressing the right genre of acting, were acting like it was 2017 instead of 1912. The makeup was weird, and one character was just really shiny. The pit was terrible. The show was not all bad! The Mayor was very funny, Marcellus was pretty good, Hill was neutral (though forgot/changed his lines sightly very often), and Marian was charming. The second half was very good because it consisted of me driving home. Something needs to change. I know shows at this theater used to/can be good, but Music Man of 2017 (1991s was pretty good) can NEVER happen again, no matter how much little Jimmy wants to be in a musical. This was sad.

I hope they could move into a bigger space, thought I understand trying to keep the "old town hall" in Olde Towne Hall Theatre. Unlike its competitors; BAYArts showcased everything from sculpture to paintings, photography and ceramics. 98% of the time, most exhibits only offer photos or paintings so it was nice to see some alternative inspiration. However, maybe it was our mistake for going on opening night; my father had two pieces accepted so...but there were so many people that you couldn't appreciate the pieces as being able to see them was very challenging! In fact, I had to do a number of laps; only noticing pieces because I was forced into the same tiny corner as they were. But aside from being shoulder to shoulder, there was also a nice spread of wine & hors d' oeuvre. Unfortunately, the upstairs is closed off to the public yet there is an outdoor bar area on the wrap around porch. The items on display were fairly priced, well lit and (if you could see them) stunning! Although this is not a place I would recommend bringing younger children and it might be difficult if you use a walker (no where to sit & rest) or a wheelchair it is worth the visit if you are able to explore on a less busy night.
