im a disabled veteran and i went to take the 56 bus on patrick ave and roosevelt. the unhoused has taken over the entire bus stop leaving me a disabled veteran no where to sit to wait for the bus. as a disabled veteran i have a right to sit down and wait for the bus! ac transit please go out to the ac transit bus depot on patrick ave and roosevelt with the hpd and clean up the bus stop and make it accessible to the public! the unhoused should not be able to take over and entire bus stop! please also clean the bus stop for the publics safety! read more

AC transit has gotten worse and worse. Plan on being a minimum of 25-30 minutes late to your destination.

I live in an apartment complex and I was running around in circles trying to find the right times to take the bus to patronize businesses in DownTown Hayward and I was able to find a correct time table online and found that the bus stop arrived out our complex at 52 after the hour. I'll give it to them they have on time accuracy. When they a bus is going to get there it will get there. Had used to walk down Watkins to go to the Lucky's shopping station but now I can get there easier now since Bus 41 lets off in front of the BART Station and City Hall. It's only $2.25 for a one way. I was about to take an Uber and the surge pricing was super crazy and so was a cab but was not really in a walking mood today and this really did the trick. FYI They do accept clipper on your phone and also on your watch so you don't need to use your plastic card any longer. I found the Apple Watch payment to be better than the physical clipper card because when you add value it becomes immediately available. With the plastic card it takes a day to load. read more

I have decided that public transportation in the Bay Area is no match for the New York City metropolitan region's public transportation. It's sad but true. AC Transit falls under my Bay Area Mediocre Public Transportation Agencies list. Some of the AC buses feel fake. They feel like they're made of the cheapest plastic or something. It's a weird feeling and you probably think I'm crazy but seriously ride an AC Transit bus and you decide. I take the AC Transit bus at the Fremont BART station so it's the first/last stop for some of the buses. There is a dedicated schedule posted at the bus stops but I feel like the bus drivers take their time to start the buses. The bus drivers are usually chilling in the BART station or somewhere else so there's often a confused crowd of to-be bus riders (me included) waiting for the bus driver to arrive. Maybe like 1-5 minutes but when it starts hitting the 5 minute mark, that is getting rather unprofessional. There are also few lines that run very late (past midnight). I suppose this is due to a demand issue but it would be nice for non San Francisco folks to not have to worry about getting home after a late night in the city. The bus stops that they put are often in really open, exposed parts of the street with no bus shelters. Near my stops, people have resorted to flipping shopping carts (wtf) to use them as temporary benches of sorts. Why can't AC Transit build more bus shelters or at the very least benches? read more

I ride the buses to get around the east bay since it's cheaper than a car and my commute is only 8 miles each way. At the time of this review, I've been at the bus stop for 30 minutes waiting for a bus that should have arrived 15 minutes ago. The 212 to be exact. Always. Freaking. Late. The next bus is apparently in 40 minutes. Big waste of time, no? It wasn't the first time either. I keep track of the buses through next bus and I'm pretty sure they skipped my stop...where a lot of people usually wait. It gets terribly frustrating since its a waste of time and energy to wait at a stop way ahead of schedule for buses that never follow it. Even in the mornings some buses just don't arrive...what gives? This is supposed to help reduce traffic in the road by taking those who could have been driving and getting them to their destinations on time...all this bus system does is encourage people to ditch their stupid system and get on the road themselves. Some bus drivers also breeze through stops where people are waiting just so they can have earlier breaks and all that. What about the people who rely on your service? I'm posting this on all of the AC Transit yelp pages because the ENTIRE agency should know this! Buses should run on scheduled times and also should have free wifi and power outlets on ALL of the buses, not just the Transbay ones. ALL buses should have heat and AC. ALL buses should run more frequently. Like the SF Muni runs more frequently than AC Transit. Also it's aggravating when bus drivers see you at the bus stop or running to the stop as they are pulling off, but still refuse to stop, even when the bus isn't crowded. This has to stop! read more

Occasionally, I have to take the bus to the office when my car is in the shop for repiars which will keep the car overnight. Therefore, my mode of transportation to the office are the bus or my bike - not bad options. However, with the shorter day light in winter, wet weather, and cold air temperature, I have to get on the bus for my ride to the office. I just have to be more flexible to be sure to be at the bus stop in time to meet my ride. In the Fremont area, taking the bus has not been too much of a problem. The bus runs regularly near my home and office, and it has never been crowded. Fellow passengers have been quiet and polite. I can not say that it is convenient like my car or bike. However, it does get me to the office ornwhen I need a ride to places I can not get to without transportation! read more

I am so fed up with this bus service that I'm yelping about it at 6:40am on my phone (will have to post this review when I get to an actual computer). I was just crossing through the intersection to catch my 232 bus to UC Bart. Mind you, this bus comes once an hour. As in crossing, I waved and tried to flag down the bus driver so I could let him know that I'm just crossing and plan on getting on. NOPE. He glances at me while im running and flailing my arms wildly and keeps driving. He drove off slowly enough that if I wasn't dragging a rolling carry-on, I could've run to the next stop to catch it. What a tease. To top it off, he was 3 minutes ahead of schedule. You see, it's Bus drivers like this that are the reason people hate public transit. At least w Muni, if a driver sees you running towards the bus, he'll wait. On another note, a blonde, frumpy looking bus driver for the 264 line gave me complete attitude for asking a question about when the bus stopped running. I needed to catch the bus to get me to work this morning. When I boarded the bus, the female driver was rude about the cost to ride (this is my first usage...and likely last...usage of the bus system). Then I remained standing (behind the yellow safety line, mind you) and she snapped at me, asking, "Is there a reason why you're standing there?" I really don't appreciate being treated poorly, especially when I pay great attention to how I treat EVERYONE that I cross paths with. Very rude driver...rough start of the day. read more

I live in San Francisco and work in the East Bay. I can afford a car but chose not to own one because it did not make sense to me. Among all the transit agencies I utilize, AC Transit is the worst. The buses and passengers along my route are fine, but drivers are almost uniformly rude if you ask the simplest question (but I miss the sweet older lady who used to drive the morning bus). If you want to call customer service, it better be between 8:30 and 5 or you're out of luck (shoot, I start work at 7:30). When you do reach a service rep., they are indifferent at best and rude at worst. The entire organization operates in the dark ages. Before I got my Translink card, I would have to download and print an order form for my montly pass, fax while hoping my credit card inforemation got in the right hands and wait for it to srrive in a hand-written envelope. Why can't one order tickets online like you can from BART? While my morning ride is typically fine, the evening leg is unpredictable at best and I never know if I will make my BART connection on time. When I called to make a complaint this morning, the person on the other end of the line told me that their organization is by far superior to SF Muni. Nothing can be further from the truth. In my three years living in SF, I have yet to experience the number of problems I have with AC Transit. read more

Lousy, lousy, lousy! I wouldn't even give them 1 star, they're that bad. The first bus (yes, the first bus) did not show up this morning. It wasn't even on Real Time. So, the bus that showed up was the 2nd bus on the schedule. According to Real Time the next bus won't show up for 45 minutes. The schedule says that they're supposed to be every 15 minutes. If this is this morning, what will it be like when it's time to go home? Will there be any buses? This is a system that was excellent 60 years ago when it took over from Key System. No more. We just experienced a fare increase July 1, but service did not improve one iota. In fact, I've seen people get on and the drivers don't make them pay. How do I get a free ride for a system this bad? I just got off a 10 hour service shift tired as hell and this 212 bus just left me stranded while I waved my phone at her trying to get her attention. This is not the first time. First time I caught up with her on my bike and was nice to her about it. Bus 215 is the worst. It never comes on time in the morning n it is always late at nite. Sometimes it doesnt show up at all. New driver does not know the route and had to ask passenger for direction. The head of AC transit should be fired immediately. read more

Beurk! I have ridden public transport for 17 years and I never liked the AC transit. There are countless reasons why but I want to begin with the upsides which is: bus #217 is always there when I finish eating at the great mall. Transbay buses and shuttles are more professional. CSUEB buses are available for a long time. Downside has a lot. I do not like this public transport system because the bus goes through bad areas. If you are stuck waiting for a bus call the police because OAK is not a good place to wait. At night the buses are so slow which makes the ride sketch. Alameda buses are eerily empty which creeps me out. The bus drivers do not know how to drive, one driver I saw got angry just because a passenger was not feeling okay, another refused to let me change lanes on the freeway while I was driving. Luckily she got better later on. Some of the drivers even act like 5 year olds or middle schoolers. Be careful around these buses, they are not your everyday commuter vehicles. read more

I was waiting for the 56 at 7:55am, coming from downtown Hayward picking up headed to union landing. The bus was at least 10 mins late. When she got there she didn't pick me up at the stop she made me step into the street which is quite dangerous. She then kept missing her time to merge, and letting people off where it was combing. The bus number was 5040. Can't believe how bad these drivers are and no one does anything about it. AC Transit Van Hool (Van Hell) and other bus choices have the Bumpy Wumpy Wumpy ouch! Worst ride of any bus I've been on in any country, and the worst seat backs that hurt your spine just sitting in them, and no padding, either. Great that the bus kneels for old people like me. Then it shakes, rattles, and rolls, your kidneys loose like riding a prewar Harley. At least I know not to drink coffee before bus riding here. Drivers: The drivers on the 65 and 88 lines are more than courteous, and on time - they get 5 stars. This review is about the lousy worn dirty smeared window buses themselves - with few creature comforts, and jungle gym seating with no lateral support for the violent swings, starts, stops, and JOLTS happening without warning, but often. Also these drivers I have ridden with ARE courteous to me, and do not abuse their break time downtown, as others have written about other lines, which is good, My local bus stop has been cut down in size to plant a drought garden, so the reduced edge is right at the bus sign, so instead of a 3 feet deep stand, you are in a cattle chute between 2x4 border, and the high speed street curve. Scary at times, like a roller coaster is passing right next to you. Wonder when someone will notice, because either you stand on a loosely packed slippery bark slope, in somebody's irrigation system, or crowd around the AC sigh at Grizzly Peak and Sunset. It would be great if I was a plant - otherwise, thank you, but no. I wish routes were consistent on weekends as well, but the bean counters want to keep us off the streets on weekends, obviously - or that's the net result. The AC Transit is a good transportation to use If you're not driving. I notice that some of the bus stops have no schedule of when the bus is going to appear at that stop. So I would recommend that you check online to see the bus schedule before you take the AC transit to your destination. read more

Bus driver #32778 on Sunday's 251 line in Fremont/Newark does not know the Clipper card beeps and ripped me off for $2.15 with $.25 remaining all because she don't know the beeps when a card is low vs. when it has insufficient funds in the negative. Cards will charge into the negative before they are denied, but this lady does not know that nor what the beeps mean and probably has been ripping off people for a long time considering how old she looked. read more
