sleeping and taking up 4 seats (this is why BART is fortifying the entry gates)

Not much to write here: a 1973 BART station that has been modernized over the years: - A 4-level south parking garage with around 900 stalls and bus plaza was completed in March 2019, replacing earlier surface lots - Plans from 2004 onward aimed to expand circulation, widen platforms, add new fare lobbies, and enhance ADA access. Seismic retrofits occurred in 2009-2010.) ...and as of 2025, Next Generation fare gates were installed. Swing gates with tall plexiglass barriers (~7′ high), integrated 3D sensors, and cameras designed to prevent non-paying entries while allowing seamless access for wheelchairs, bikes, strollers, and luggage. So far they've managed to keep the shady characters away! So for that latest development, that's worth an extra star in my opinion. Now... a fresh coat of paint would do marvels and actually moving forward - instead of fencing the area off - with whatever redevelopment the parking in front of the station is suppose to get.

Walnut Creek station is pretty clean generally and well maintained. On the weekend parking is easy and plenty. Even the parking building structure seems in a good condition. Furthermore, the Bart train platforms are also clean, and the station is pretty clearly marked so it's easy to know which platform is for inbound/outbound. It's not my go to Bart station (as I prefer Pleasant Hill or Concord), but it's a really nice station in general.

Lots of new construction and housing in this area. I always liked the idea of living near a bart station - not even that I would have to use it all the time but it gives a feeling of being connected with all the hot spots around the bay. I hop on bart here after a short walk. The station is new and clean with lots of parking and massive parking structures. On the train most people are wearing masks except for this one lady talking loudly on her cell phone. 'You get like this every year. It should never get to this point. Every year this happens.' Shes frustrated and is the sound board for her friend in some sort of yearly crisis. They were talking about some boyfriend - I think the problem was her friend was frustrated about the clothing he wore or maybe she thought this boyfriend was a different person until the moment when they moved in together. Everybody is polite on this train except for loud woman on phone. Based off her uniform she is a security guard maybe going to work in the early afternoon. Generally if the people around you are stuck with you there is unspoken rule of not being so loud. Overall a very pleasant experience this time. I've taken bart many times lately and its never really crowded and seemed safe. Once in a while there is some off person but I've never seen anybody act out.

So spent $5.70 on a ride to Broadway Plaza. Bartable stated that the center was very close but no signage at the station and the maps wasn't very clear. Ended up to be a nice short walk of 15 mins. Many shops between A and B starting off with Target.

Took Bart to Walnut Creek BART Station. It's on the Pittsburg Bay-Point Line and it's pretty far from Fremont. I went when the Bart had bus shuttles for the closure of Coliseum-Fruitvale. Such a pain. Sundays have to transfer from 19th St to Pittsburg Bay-Point. There is separate bathrooms - didn't use. The Free Downtown WC shuttle is on the Left once you exit the train station. I didn't see the stop until I was heading back. About 15min walk to Downtown, only 3 blocks.

Original from LA, first time using the BART earlier this week while I was apartment hunting. IT WAS AMAZING!!!! Fast pick ups, smooth rides. Hassle-free, affordable transportations!!!! Los Angeles Needs This!!! "LART"

This is my first time getting in and out of this station. This station is a whole lot nicer and cleaner looking than the stations in urban areas (Oakland, SF, Richmond). There's plenty of parking spaces, but the lots here get full quick. This afternoon I left from the Lake Merritt BART Station for this station. I had to transfer over to the Pittsburg Bay Point train. Along the way I started to nod (zzzz's). I almost missed this stop if it weren't for the passenger sitting next to me. He was getting off at the same stop. What I like about this station is its location. It's convenient and within walking distance to the retail businesses, shops, restaurants along the Olympic Boulevard, Locust Street area (Downtown Walnut Creek). No, I did not almost a mile; instead a friend picked me from the station for the Cheesecake Factory. The drawback: Access in and out of the station during the noon hours is fine, but during commute hours, it's quite a bit of traffic - drivers with their vehicles parked along the side, waiting to pick up passengers to head home - yep, traffic congestion during the peak hours, making it difficult to enter the lot.

Cal State East Bay has classrooms at 3 campuses: Hayward, Concord, and Oakland. While attending their paralegal program at night, I tried to keep all of my classes in Concord, but ended up with a couple in Oakland. Conveniently, I could leave my car parked at work and walk over to WC BART. From there it was a short ride to 19th St/City Center. Only once did I fall asleep and miss my stop. :) I could have parked my car at this BART because It has to be one of the safest stations (tied with Lafayette and Orinda, perhaps?) but I enjoyed the walk. I believe parking at night is free, but it's definitely not during the day.

One of the cleanest station out there. I feel safe at this station. They have Bart police patrolling the area on a regular basis to prevent unwanted thieves from snooping around your car. There are still plenty of parking after 9am. The station is located near Target and other stores. It also walking distance to downtown Walnut Creek. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from. If you're looking for a safe place to park your car and have a great time, go to this station.

We used the GPS to get here to the North parking lot and ended up parking in the overflow lot with a select amount of other people so we weren't alone. We were unaware it was the overflow lot till we walked to the BART station taking the little path and saw closer parking spaces. Oh well we were already parked and the walk wasn't that far. There is a parking FEE from 4am-3pm Monday - Friday. You need to remember your stall number so you can pay for your parking spot inside the station. When we arrived at the station we didn't see the pay station so we asked the station manager and she informed us it was free. If you need to pay you have to pay your fair and inside the station is the machines to pay your parking. It's only $3.40 a day. Not bad if you're comparing it to street metered parking or a parking garage. Still I'm not used to paying for parking at a BART Station. When we arrived at the BART station we looked at the machines and didn't see a way to put money on our BART tickets so we went to the station manage and asked how we do this. She informed us that they no longer use the old school paper tickets and now the new form of payment is a clipper card or a credit card. She said we could mail in our tickets and we'll get a check for the remaining balance. We asked where we ship them to and she said we can do it in station. We then asked if we can do it in this station and she said no she was out of the forms, then she looked and it turns out she still had a booklet of the forms so we were able to turn them tickets into her. She filled out a form for us. We signed our name to the bottom of the form after showing her our ID and she said it should only take 2 weeks and if we don't get the check in the mail by then to call them. Good thing we arrived early. We were able to enter the BART station by using our credit card. It worked like a charm. You just use a credit card to enter and the same one to exist and it automatically charges your card. It costed us $5.95 to travel from the Orinda BART Station to the Montgomery Station. That is the cost each way using a credit card. If you purchase a plastic Clipper card there is a $3 charge. If you load the Clipper app to your phone there is no charge to use your Clipper App. I'm not sure of the advantage of using the Clipper card versus using a credit card. Bathroom. They actually have 2 unisex bathrooms that have that great red and green tab on the door so you know if it's occupied or not. They don't have roll toilet paper, but the old school little square sheets that dispense like hand towels do. We were shocked in a good way at how clean and fresh smelling the bathrooms are. And I was just shocked that they have bathrooms that we were allowed to use. My husband was shocked that you didn't have to get an agent to open it for you. So overall we were thrilled beyond belief about the bathroom situation. We used it before and after the trip and it was just as clean if not cleaner at the end of the day. Safety. The station seems safe. There was no one loitering around the station. No homeless people camped out, ect. The station and the parking lot were relatively clean. There was a six pack of used or half used Corona in the parking lot next to a tree, but other than that it was pretty clean. Our car was safe. No damage happened to our car. There is always a fear that your car may be vandalized while you are gone or it 's broken into and all your stuff is stolen. It's happened before to my Husband and his friends at another Bart Station and that's why we didn't park at that station.

There's a jail nearby/down the street and when some people get released, they don't have anywhere else to go. I've seen deer and raccoons in the early morning hours. Last winter, I saw a family of four deer waltz by in the parking lot -that was something. As long as I don't see any big cats or mountain lions *=D Anyway the trains are really nice as well as the conductors and Martinez is somewhat of a hub. We needed overnight parking and at first could not find any spots nearby. I checked with the station agent who directed me (with rather poor directions) to a lot on the other side of the tracks. So we had a bit of a hike back to the station. Glad we had left plenty of time. The Capitol Corridor train certainly beats BART. Seats are comfortable and you can actually hear the announcements over the PA system. The Capitol Corridor offers a cafe car which we did not need, but that is a good feature. Once we arrived in Sacramento we had a bit of a walk to Old Town where we had planned to have lunch. We did not check out the Sacramento Amtrak station until our return trip. It looks newer from the outside than it does on the inside. Large waiting room with very uncomfortable wooden seating. The waiting area was also very warm so we waited outside where the metal seating (under shade) was clean and much more comfortable than the wooden seats inside. Signage on train arrivals and track numbers were clear. Very helpful as you need to know which one of six tracks and, of course, which direction you are headed. Plan on a few minutes to walk to your train. The walk way is nicely landscaped. Much nicer than anything I have seen with BART. All in all a great way to head to Sacramento (or other destinations) if you don't want to drive.

Now since I'm going to Oakland/San Francisco I don't want to deal with finding parking, outrageous parking prices , or risk my car getting broken into. You know Oakland these days. So Amtrak it is. Ride that Choo-Choo Whewww-Whewww I start at the very south end of the train route so it's 5 hours of extra time for me. Speaking of this, I really suggest you check out Durand Bernarr. Everywhere I walk now, that song Mango Butter is in my head. Anyhoo, back to Amtrak. They have the new and the old trains. The new cars have sliding glass doors between the cars and are one level. The luggage racks are bigger and are bicycle mount ready. There's also a tile lip on the floor to prevent your wheelie suitcase from rolling away. A lot of passengers have a difficult time finding the trash can. These new cars now have the receptacle built in so you have to look on the sides for the stainless steel rectangular door that are usually located near the restrooms and the water fountains. Speaking of water, these new cars have water dispensers like you see at the airport. Just bring your travel water bottles and your set. Another thing passengers have a hard time finding are the electrical outlets. Tip: they're located between the seats. No more food car. Remember those? Yah, I miss them too. Now drinks and snacks are free. They are Coca-Cola products (Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, Dr Pepper, Mr Pibb and Fanta). It is far less stressful, and, with a monthly pass, much cheaper. The trains are clean, and the conductors friendly, and it usually goes off without a hitch. Occasionally, there are delays (such as when the Benicia Bridge is up to allow maritime traffic to pass, or infrequent mishaps). When they do occur, communication could be better, but that would be my only complaint. You can bring your bike or scooter aboard (most cars have three spaces, plus there is one that holds 13. In the early morning, the bike/luggage car is also the quiet car, and usually kept dark as well. In the afternoon, if you do not need to go past Sacramento, avoid #538, as it gets very full (often no bike racks or seats are open). The #536 and #540 have plenty of room and run within half an hour. The Martinez station is a bit larger than Davis, has more consistent staffing, and is cleaner. There is also a bit more UP traffic, so there is fun people-watching when the train enthusiast photographers are out. One time, there was also a busker singing about Box-car Willie, and vocalizing authentic sounding steam whistle sound. The station sits in charming downtown Martinez, and is also close to the waterfront and yacht club.
