Down to 1 hour per night, I realized that I needed to do something to allow my body to have restful sleep. Tossing and turning for hours, I would resort to watching stupid late night TV shows, only to have commercials tout amazing sleep aids. I went from the natural ones to more powerful prescription type sleep aids. Nothing worked and some made the situation worse. My wife had gone to Sari and received a lot of relief from pain and dizziness due to a brain injury fall. She mentioned to me that Sari may be able to help me sleep. After the first 1 hour session, I was able to fall asleep within an hour and stay asleep for seven hours. A week later, after a second session with Sari, I was able to fall asleep within minutes and stay asleep for the entire night. Throw away the meds and call Sari! She is amazing at what she does!

Absolutely phenomenal! Excellent people, treatment, and environment. Will absolutely recommend any…read moreof my coworkers and friends with anything from minor, to severe issues. I could not be more thankful to Spooner Scotsdale and its employees. It's a long story, but something I feel worth telling incase any one else has the same hesitance or is scared. I'm a young man, and I'm not very open to physical therapy with the preconceived notion that it's only for old people, and isn't for debilitating issues like I have, more for stretching and general pain. I was extremely self conscious about coming in, and I am not comfortable with people touching me at all. I also delayed coming in for far too long, which I regret, because it was honestly, I feel, the only thing that can and did help me. I herniated a disk, and couldn't move after lifting something far too heavy. I couldn't move, I couldn't lay down, I couldn't sit or do anything without complete agony in my lower back and leg. I was unable to put on my socks, or do any normal daily tasks. This continued for about 3 days not getting better until my partner forced me to go to Spooner Scotsdale. I was very, very scared that they might tell me it's unfixable, because at the time, I didn't know what the issue was. The drive up was incredibly painful, but so worth it. I came in for an initial evaluation with Geoff, and cried pretty much the second he started talking because the pain was just unbearable, and also worried that this is something I will have to live with for the rest of my life, but Geoff was incredibly reassuring. He closed the curtain to give me some privacy, and calmed me down. He evaluated me, and after some movements and assessing, he explained what's happened. He had some spine models he pulled out to show me what's happened and helped me visualize the issue, and he kept talking to me until I fully understood what was wrong and how it happened. That was incredibly valuable to me, since up until this point, I didn't know anything except I couldn't walk or do anything really. He then helped me do some stretches and exercises, which before his explanation seemed incredibly counterintuitive to me since it just aggravated the issue more, but he explained it in such a way that I could see how it would help and was incredibly appreciative for showing me. I then explained that my schedule is very fluctuating due to work, and it would be very difficult to schedule additional follow ups, which was another big fear for me since I always thought you needed to come in consistently for a month for physical therapy, but he was extremely accommodating and showed me some home exercises and stretches to do, and printed out a sheet to take with me incase I forgot. I am genuinely impressed, that only after an hour with him, that the pain had been relived that much to the point I was able to get a ride home without much issue. Which is saying something, because before my only solution was to take enough ibuprofen to make a pharmacist queasy, which didn't even help the issue, just lessens the symptoms temporarily. I cannot put into words how phenomenal he, and every single person in that clinic was, at every step of the way. I am genuinely thankful to everyone in that clinic, and I will be every single time in the future I'm able to bend over without gritting my teeth. I will be recommending Spooner to all of my coworkers and friends. Thank you:)

Wait time with call buttons is much too long. Not because staff isn't attentive (they are), but they are handling too many patients for the amount of staff needed. Laundry was never done even thought I noted on the communication board and to all staff that facility was to do laundry. Dad was left without pants because they kept "forgetting" to do laundry. When I complained and they finally did dad's laundry, half his clothes were lost and I was given someone else's clothes instead. Discharge process was unorganized, rushed and uncommunicative with case manager in knowing time/transfer and i was rushed through signing papers without fully understanding what they were. I was also never given options for home health companies - they ordered through a provider that I didn't want to use. I should have been given options for home health companies, but was not given options. I would also leave messages for my case manager to ask the doctor but her follow through for answers was incomplete. They are truly overworked and understaffed at this facility. On a positive, I loved CNA Brian Julian (super nice, VERY knowledgeable and friendly) Jen (NP), Eddie (NP) and "Z" (NP) were amazing too. Edwin was great also. Staff was fantastic - they just need more staff, better communication and hands on help to make this facility a five-star.

Am surprised that there was little understanding of advanced demetia care techniques. Multiple times telling staff that Mom cannot ask for pain medication and responsive was that she was PRN or giving medication on a schedule, regardless of need. Afraid to leave Mom alone given the attention administration gave to intake instructions. They are quick to follow their procedure regarding intake, billing, ect. but all but ignored or were rude when it came to communicating during discharge. Can't stress enough how rudely the receptionist became when I kept explaining that whoever was supposed to return my calls after several, was not. One of the most unpleasant experiences in the 8 years of caring for my mother. I feel like I can not leave a negative enough review regarding that issue. Patient care I would rate as average to adequate.

It is important to note that This facility is actually located in Mesa, not Scottsdale. Advanced Health care is INCREDIBLE! I am only 55 and even though I look and feel 35 (if I do say so myself) I am already looking into making darn sure I have the right insurance in place so whenever a time comes that I need to be admitted to an inpatient rehab facility, I can make sure I have the ability to choose this place. My mother has straight medicare with a supplement. We learned the HARD WAY about advantage plans after her stroke 2 years ago. Advantage plans are disgusting, worthless options and I would never recommend anyone who is over the medicare age of 75 to be on anything other than straight medicare with a quality supplement plan . But that is a review for another time and place. Advanced Health Care is five stars all the way. The staff is attentive, caring, professional, friendly and work hard to make sure your loved one is welcomed and made comfortable from the moment they arrive. The therapists are amazing. They make sure your loved one works hard from day one so they can get back as much of their old life as possible once they leave. I researched the facility and discovered that it is owned by Larry H Miller. He must've built this place in honor of his parents or either he's just an incredibly phenomenal human being because this place is as close to perfect as homemade apple pie and the fourth of July. The building and interior is designed to look and feel just like a warm and cozy, well cared for home. The beautiful stone fireplace, the living room set-up, the little library and dining room area is very well decorated. The private rooms are nice and big and decorated in warm, Earth-toned colors. The whole facility feels exactly like you could be in your own home. It isn't sterile or cold or unfriendly feeling. I highly recommend this cozy, intimate, quiet rehab facility for anyone needing care or for anyone concerned with leaving a loved one in the care of others for several weeks at a time. You will feel good about your decision I promise you.
