Absolutely phenomenal! Excellent people, treatment, and environment. Will absolutely recommend any of my coworkers and friends with anything from minor, to severe issues. I could not be more thankful to Spooner Scotsdale and its employees. It's a long story, but something I feel worth telling incase any one else has the same hesitance or is scared. I'm a young man, and I'm not very open to physical therapy with the preconceived notion that it's only for old people, and isn't for debilitating issues like I have, more for stretching and general pain. I was extremely self conscious about coming in, and I am not comfortable with people touching me at all. I also delayed coming in for far too long, which I regret, because it was honestly, I feel, the only thing that can and did help me. I herniated a disk, and couldn't move after lifting something far too heavy. I couldn't move, I couldn't lay down, I couldn't sit or do anything without complete agony in my lower back and leg. I was unable to put on my socks, or do any normal daily tasks. This continued for about 3 days not getting better until my partner forced me to go to Spooner Scotsdale. I was very, very scared that they might tell me it's unfixable, because at the time, I didn't know what the issue was. The drive up was incredibly painful, but so worth it. I came in for an initial evaluation with Geoff, and cried pretty much the second he started talking because the pain was just unbearable, and also worried that this is something I will have to live with for the rest of my life, but Geoff was incredibly reassuring. He closed the curtain to give me some privacy, and calmed me down. He evaluated me, and after some movements and assessing, he explained what's happened. He had some spine models he pulled out to show me what's happened and helped me visualize the issue, and he kept talking to me until I fully understood what was wrong and how it happened. That was incredibly valuable to me, since up until this point, I didn't know anything except I couldn't walk or do anything really. He then helped me do some stretches and exercises, which before his explanation seemed incredibly counterintuitive to me since it just aggravated the issue more, but he explained it in such a way that I could see how it would help and was incredibly appreciative for showing me. I then explained that my schedule is very fluctuating due to work, and it would be very difficult to schedule additional follow ups, which was another big fear for me since I always thought you needed to come in consistently for a month for physical therapy, but he was extremely accommodating and showed me some home exercises and stretches to do, and printed out a sheet to take with me incase I forgot. I am genuinely impressed, that only after an hour with him, that the pain had been relived that much to the point I was able to get a ride home without much issue. Which is saying something, because before my only solution was to take enough ibuprofen to make a pharmacist queasy, which didn't even help the issue, just lessens the symptoms temporarily. I cannot put into words how phenomenal he, and every single person in that clinic was, at every step of the way. I am genuinely thankful to everyone in that clinic, and I will be every single time in the future I'm able to bend over without gritting my teeth. I have been in the medical field as a Credentialist for 42 years now. This is NOT how to treat new patients - Front office believes SPOONER has too much money, so no need to treat patients with respect. 1st it took me 2 months to get an appointment. When I made the appt I told Nadia that it was impossible for me to get to the office at 5:00 as I got off at 4:30 and the office is at least 30 minutes away. I was told to just come in and they would see me when I got there. I received several notifications that stated I needed to complete my new pt application or I would NOT be seen. ok fair. Not how I would put it, but fair non-the-less. I tried several times to complete the document. It would not let me past the 1st page. Error message states that I must complete "required" fields before moving on. ALL lines had been completed including fields that were not required. I was stuck in this loop. The day of the visit I tried completing the form again assuming that all the other times the system had some kind of bug. The day of the visit I left my office at 4:30. At 5:07, Nadia called me and said that My documents were not completed and I was past my appointment time, so I would have to reschedule. I will not be rescheduling. in reviewing the reviews, there seems to be a constant theme of too busy to see patients. So I am alleviating some of Spooners problems of having too much money and patients by NEVER going to this place. I plan on letting my Insurance company and the referral source know what a horrible experience I had at Spooner. BTW Nadia, where you aware that patients help pay your salary. Try a little kindness and compassion. You never know who your patient is. read more

When I first arrived at Spooner I felt I was in PT heaven. Living with Vertigo is a nightmare. Doctors had been wanting to medicate me instead of helping me, leaving me to feel very hopeless about ever functioning again. But then I walked into Spooner. I was evaluated and it was determined I could "only stand 7 seconds" by the PT, Phd therapist assigned to me who was the expert in Vestibular disorders and seemed to very bright, earnest, and willing to help me. She also made and effort to speak to my treating Neurologist as I live with a rare disease so rare, it is seldom seen in medicine. I was touched she took time to learn from him, especially triggers. I had to work behind a curtain and away from others at first. I felt great hope! Things were going really, really well. I was so happy as I felt if things did not change I had not idea who I was going to function going forward. I was under great stress with so many other personal matters as well, so life was a lot. At the same time, my therapist was getting married. She was the happiest bride-to-be I think I'd ever seen, sharing every detail of the soon to be nuptials, location, dress, brides maids, who was going, skipping with glee and joy! I remember her saying she was as happy as a Disney Princess. I bought her a wedding gift to share in her joy. My health continued to get better. I told everyone about Spooner everywhere I went! I wanted a statue erected for her (as a joke) because I felt I was getting my life back. I could fly up the stairs and down, do the bear crawl, the bird thingy, stand on on leg, sit to stands...I was no longer "93 years old" but closer to 48 according to my tech. I got to see the wedding photo album, further sharing her life with me. And a thank you card for my gift. But then something happened when I came in one day. My therapist began to cry and weep when she came to the table to meet me. Not just weep, but sob, deeply sobbed. I did what any human would do. I held her in my arms, consoling her. She did not tell me what happened, only that she was divorcing, and to Google him. We never spoke of it or him again (but I wrote her a poem and care her a card). Spooner was never a safe place for me again. Eventually she would snap at me when I lost my balance and touched her arm of a second, "Don't touch me!" and in a medical emergency had me get up and walk before I was ready causing tremendous muscle pain, putting me in bed for days. I eventually moved over to a different PT therapist who was unremarkable. It all just kept spiraling downward. I remember his tech doing something very reckless with me. When I asked him if he knew my diagnosis he quipped (after working with me for many weeks), "in never found time to read your chart". I fell into a very dark depression after I left. The PT person I liked so much had gone from being encouraging to saying discouraging things, hurtful things, painful things to me. I am at the end of a very harrowing medical journey. I did not hurt her. Tom Spooner had a responsibility to handle the situation instead of others needing to be careful around her. She was not the victim. read more

This one star is for the front desk for being unhelpful. Came here for my neck pain therapy. The first day of evaluation was wonderful, everything went well and I couldn't wait to come back for more. Unfortunately on my second day of visit which was four days later; a different front desk girl started asking me about my payment. I was like, what payment? When I spoke on the phone to make my first appointment, one of the front desk girls told me that my insurance will cover for all of my visits. Why didn't you explain to me on my first visit that I had to pay $100 for first visit and $90 every each visit until I meet 23 visits which is $2.080.00 then my insurance will cover. Why no one in the office explained to me on my first visit about it??? I wasn't mad, but I was very disappointed with this miss understanding service that I had to go trough. I'm sorry that I will not come back or recommend this business to anyone. What ashamed. read more

I would rate zero stars if I could but then I doubt YELP would post. Please never use for pediatric therapy. We've been to multiple locations, but this is by far their worst location for pediatrics. Two of my children were evaluated for specific injuries/issues, and instead of PT for those specific recoveries and strength/stretch/support, they had my kids doing work outs. Put them on the treadmill, sit ups, push ups, planks, burpees. One of my sons was there for Severs disease and they didn't do any stretching, massage, recovery. Hard pass. Physician referred me to 15225 N 40th St location, over 11 miles from my home. Called right away to make an appointment. Call center seemed to be contractors; wasn't great. First available appointment is over 6 weeks out & early morning. Appt day finally arrives. I drive the 11 mi in Monday morning commute traffic, an over 30min drive. On arrival, Receptionist says, "I just called you. Your appointment is cancelled." (Allegedly, therapist had a last-minute family emergency.) Now another 35 min 11-mi drive in city-bound commute traffic, late for work. read more

I have to say, I was surprised and shocked at Spooner's new payment protocols that were explained to me over the phone. Obviously, my injury requires a certain amount of time in treatment. I was taken aback when I was offered payment options based on various packages that had varying treatment plans. It was like making a spa appointment rather than scheduling PT services at a medical rehab facility. As I age and stay active, I'm learning about the importance of knowing a top-notch physical therapist....and Torrey Foster at Spooner Physical Therapy is exactly that. Over the past few years, I've experienced lower back pain (SI), a broken bone (ankle - probably done with basketball), shoulder impingement, and a strained glute/hamstring. I've tried several PT's with mixed results....but, my recent experiences at Spooner with Torrey make me feel like my search is over. What makes so happy: 1). First and most importantly: I am making progress with healing. I've been working on two issues, and both are being treated in ways that are providing great results. 2). Torrey takes the time to explain what's going on (I love/need to know what the issues are, and he even breaks out his textbooks for me!). He also pays close attention to my pain, my progress, and adjusts accordingly. 3). The PT assistants are helpful and friendly. I've worked with two, Julie and Karen, and have been pleased with both of them. They explain each exercise clearly, watch to make sure I'm doing them properly, and are upbeat and encouraging as I work thru moments of pain. And here's the thing about Spooner: The time spent at Spooner is very efficient. Appointments start on time, the PT assistant works 1-1 with you as you move thru your regimen. You move along at a good pace, though there is more than enough time to talk - it does NOT feel like being rushed at all. My husband has been gong to physical therapy here for 2 weeks now to help in the recovery after his hip replacement. Between Rachel, Alex and Sarge, he has had nothing but the best experience! He always leaves exhausted but happy & feeling amazing. They push him to his limits, and have increased his flexibility already far beyond from what it was pre-surgery. The front office staff deserves 5 stars as well. They took the initiative to solve our insurance authorization problem when his primary care provider (who he has been seeing for the past 5 years) wouldn't do a thing to help. Where to begin... I always heard nothing other than great things about Spooner. Being in the medical field myself and continuous referrals outside the practice P.T. was on the high side of referrals and with that comes honest patients. Always a positive word. When a unfortunate bad accident occurred a year ago, I was hesitant to go to any type of P.T. I made every excuse because truly, I was in fear the unknown of how much direct contact would be placed on my injury. Yes, I had mobility issues along with frustration and confidence and pain every day, most of the day. So ..I sucked it up and called Spooner for my evaluation. I switched to Spooner 4 months post ACL reconstruction and I'm so happy I did. The first day I walked in, I was in amazed with how upbeat the clinic was and knew this was going to be the perfect clinic for me. The staff is kind, are all motivating and happy to be there. I had physical therapy at this location early in 2019 to recover from a fracture of the left tibia. When I first came, I was in a wheelchair and I could not walk. After two car accidents in under a year, my neck and back were in pretty terrible shape. I've been to Spooner after each accident, and after the standard 8-12 weeks of treatment, I felt like my young spunky self again. The first accident was a T-Bone on my passenger side, and my neck was all funky and hurting. Ryne massaged, manipulated and exercised my neck and shoulders back into pre-accident shape. He also equipped me with exercises to continue after treatment ceased, and they continued to help make my life better, especially since I'm at a desk all day long typing and designing away. The second accident was much worse. I was at a complete stop when I was rear-ended at 35+ mph. My neck, shoulders, back, and arms were achy and had shooting pains. I had a constant headache until Torrey started treating me. Torrey is Ryne's older brother, and he's a miracle worker with my neck and shoulders. Now, after 8 weeks of treatment, I'm feeling much better, and should hopefully soon receive the "we don't wanna see you anymore" go ahead to resume my normal life. These guys know their stuff - if you ever need PT, I'd recommend them. My mom (59 years old) went to Ryne after a leading surgeon botched her knee replacement. After a new replacement, she was in serious pain, and Ryne coaxed her leg back into shape and health with patience and understanding. She said she'll never go to anyone else. read more

Well, my therapists at Spooner has been working on getting my back pains controlled thru strengthening my core and they have been successful in doing that! I am receiving hand therapy at the Scottsdale Desert Cove location. My right little finger was broken and so stiff and painful even after wearing the cast for several weeks. I am so impressed with Brooke Allen and her assistants including Emily. They are encouraging and patient. Brooke Allen is amazing and after one therapy my finger was so improved I was amazed. When I have questions about my home exercises she can analyze ways I need to adjust etc.and give me hints on a better approach. I like that there is such a variety of therapies they use on me. Never boring. I am so happy to be able to cut my own meat, write, type and so many normal things I could not do before therapy.My life is greatly improved and soon I will play pickleball again! I recommend avoiding Spooner Physical Therapy under all circumstances..... especially if you are a senior citizen. Post neck surgery I was recommended to initiate my physical therapy at Spooner. The physical therapists were knowledgeable and did assist me in my recovery but the nightmare began when dealing with the Spooner Physical therapy accounting department. I had supplied Spooner with all the relevant information and documentation showing that I had met all of my deductibles due to the extensive (major surgery) I had just been through. For almost 14 MONTHS, with my continuously sending detailed letters and documentations to Spooner's accounting department to stop billing me for services that needed to be paid by Ambetter Health of Arizona. Rather than submitting these charges to my insurance company, they continued sending me the exact same bill stating that I owed over $400 to them when all the information they required showing I had met my deductible in May of that year 2019, made no difference to them. I was inundated by bills almost on a weekly basis. No one even read my letters or reviewed my documentation which I forwarded to Spooner but yet, I went through hell until finally and better wrote them a letter indicating that I was not responsible for any of these expenses and they settled it between themselves. Bottom line, although the physical therapists were good, the nightmare associated with the accounting department and their lack of expertise and professionalism has sworn me off of Spooner and will never utilize their services ever again. the nightmare they put senior citizens through trying to extort money from them which they were unable to collect from insurance companies, is unacceptable and a warning to those seeking physical therapy with this company you will regret it in the long run when they pester you weekly to pay bills that you have no responsibility for. Strongly recommend avoiding Spooner Physical Therapy, unless you wish to go through a financial nightmare...... for no reason!!! Who are these people working in the accounting department for Spooner (???) and what are their qualifications?? In order to expose a customer to this type of financial extortion is immoral and a clear attempt to take advantage of Scottsdale's senior citizens. I rarely post reviews but felt this review was necessary in order to help other senior citizens avoid the financial nightmare that Spooner Physical Therapy put me through for almost 14 months.... before admitting they were wrong and sent me an apology letter after close to a year and a half of constant attempts to extort this money from me. Shame on Spooner Physical Therapy and their Accounting Department, and their abuse of senior citizens. ** I will post both my letters and documentation sent to Spooner, as well as their final response, considering I received no response to any of my communication to them for close to a year and a half. They neglected my documentation and letters and simply (automatically) sent me a bill (exceeding $400) almost on a weekly basis, until I was preparing to file suit against them in civil court. This is absolutely the worst experience I have ever had with a physical therapy company and never experienced the insanity and harassment I was exposed to from the accounting department at Spooner Physical Therapy. I am certain my experience is not unique considering others I have spoken to, who have been through similar situations with this Physical Therapy company and their accounting department. Heads up, you don't need this frustration and financial harassment, including threat to send the account to a "collections agency" in an attempt to destroy a customer's credit rating. I absolutely DONT recommend this place, or at least not Pauleen! She has my Mom very upset over her recovery. She was told that she will never walk again without a walker and stop using a cane! My Mom is a very healthy, trim 76 year old who fell and is recovering from a broken hip and drop foot. Her biggest motivation is getting rid of the hardware and walking on her own. Pauleen crushed her and now she wants to stop professional therapy now because of this input. FYI She has never been told this by any of her other PT or Nurses or Docs...Encouragement goes a LONG way... shame on Pauleen! read more
