Mathnasium has been great. I expected some push back but he would ask to go. After 6 months I do find myself negotiating terms with my son, but he still enjoys going. They have a reward system that really motivates him. He has excelled so much in his school work that his teacher has taken notice. He has definitely gained the confidence that we wanted.

This Mathnasium in White Flint (N. Bethesda) is more expensive (by $25) than the one in Rockville,…read moreprovides 1.5 hours 1x a week vs. 1 hour 2x a week than the one in White Flint. As far as I can tell, you cannot reserve appt times in advance, you simply show up. I did not get an answer on what happens when too many kids show up on the same day... While the one in Rockville operates by a rule base system (which can be frustrating at times), there doesn't appear to be set rules for the Mathnasium in White Flint that they are willing to share with you prior to signing up and actually looking at the contract (I did not get to that point). The main problem I had with this particular location is that they insist on talking with you over the telephone, and don't like to answer questions via email. They are extremely private about sharing the details of their organization and how they run it and they were extremely reluctant to provide details of their organization in writing. I got the suspicion, although I have no way to prove or deny it, that they run by an exception system where if the owners like you, you can get what you need, but if they don't, you easily lose sessions you paid for. It would be awesome if someone who attends this Mathnasium would provide details of the organization so people could make an informed decision.
