This company is terribly inconsistent, I work for a company that contracted Academy to transport employees from the parking lot to our work place. The drivers are consistently late at both clock in and clock out. They also have a habit of leaving early, sometimes leaving my coworkers at the bus stop they are supposed to stop at. They have also made wrong turns multiple times on a route that stays the same. This company is a joke. read more

This company left a group of 50 of us in the lurch and strung us along until hours after our departure time. We were supposed to go to an event and they showed up four hours after their time of arrival and after subcontracting to another bus company and ruied 50 persons Saturday. My luggage and 2 for another passenger was not on the bus at next drop off Terminal 5. Bus drive (John) said we had not report form. Gave us phone # for Academy bus Claim Dept. said to submit claim Monday Gave him Name contact & Flight info. Academy Bus had no driver report. Given the run around 7 calls to NJ Corp.. No one or dept has accepted a formal report or complaint todate. One Dispatcher gave me the drivers cell phone number confirmed his name was John. Unbelievably inept driver!!!! Verifiable, Passengers were all from Carnival Venezia Cruise. Had to stop Driver from pulling out from 1st terminal without closing compartment doors. read more

Comfortable busses, rarely stick to route times, my trip says 1 hour 35 minutes, usually 2 plus hours each way daily. The big problem I have is no restrooms on the busses to and from New York. We pay high prices for the monthly passes and because of medical issues, I almost pee my pants and at times have to get off a stop or two earlier so I can use a rest stop. Then my wife needs to come get me! This is unacceptable for a 2 hour trip each way every day. They need to add restrooms to the busses! read more

More than 25 daily commuters on bus 1915, yesterday 8/21/17 at 5:30pm, suffered the absolute worst commute ever. The bus did not have air conditioning, in fact, hot air was coming out of the vents. People were sweating, upset that that particular bus was not put out of commission, and replaced with an air conditioned bus to take it's place. Myself and many other commuters called dispatch and were told they did not send out a non-working bus on purpose, but refused to do anything about replacing it. The dispatcher was rude and yelling at me on the phone, as if it were my fault. I have asthma and could've had an episode due to heat exhaustion. I took photos, videos, recorded the phone call I made to the dispatcher and also downloaded a "Room Temperature" app that read 95 degrees inside the bus, however, the REAL FEEL was 105 degrees at least. We were all drenched in sweat and tempers were high. The monthly bus fair is NOT CHEAP, and I along with other commuters on that bus, expect FULL compensation for the trauma and utter disregard for our safety, Academy Bus 1915 and the company's dispatcher put us through. Absolutely unacceptable and expect an IMMEDIATE RESPONSE! I will give them until the end of business day today, to respond, before I take further legal action against them. read more

There aren't enough words in the English language to adequately express how much I hate Academy Bus. I pay hundreds of dollars a month for their bus "service" only because I have to. Well, ok, I COULD take the ferry for double the cost, or drive and extra 20 minutes each way to catch a NJ Transit train. This second option is becoming more appealing with each no-show bus I have to deal with. I currently use two different routes- Route 36 to Port, and Monmouth Rest Stop to Port. While Route 36 is... relatively reliable, you can forget about Monmouth. Buses just... don't show up. How can you justify charging someone $425 a month and then just have no answers for when they have to stand for hours (literally, I'm not exaggerating) for an actual bus to show up? Oh wait, Academy doesn't have to provide justification- M-O-N-O-P-O-L-Y. There's no shelter at Monmouth, so you're SOL if it's raining/snowing- Hope you have a heavy duty umbrella, sorry if it's windy! The new bus advertisements are a goddamned crime. You can't even see out of the windows with a lot of them. Not all of us are plugged into our smartphones- sometimes it's nice to disconnect, zone out, and just take in your surroundings. Oh well! Monopoly! Need more money from the ad revenue! Time to raise ticket prices again! I can't be a complete Donna Downer. Most of the drivers understand passenger frustration and do their best to get you where you need to go in the shortest amount of time. Sure, I've encountered a few crazies and slowpokes, but all in all, thanks be to the bus drivers. I'm pretty sure they've never even visited this page, or maybe they have, and they print out all of our reviews and then wipe their butts with them. I use Academy's charter services 2-3 times per month for university sponsored trips. It wasn't until they were unavailable for a couple of my events and I had to work with other companies, that I learned to appreciate the service I receive from Academy. Oh wow... where to start with this joke of a transportation company! The only thing good that came out of my two years with them is their awful service has inspired me to move to the city next month so I no longer have to commute by bus. Jersey City, here I come! As others have said, everything goes to heck on anything considered a holiday. Buses from NJ to Wall Street are already sparse as it is, so getting to work on time on a holiday schedule is like being in an episode of Amazing Race. Most of the drivers are in a perpetually foul mood which makes an already insulting ride even more unbearable. Many drivers skip Wall Street stops altogether, and get nasty if you take too long to get off (7:10am Cheesequake bus, I'm looking at you). Prices climb steadily. Expect a price hike about once a year. It's nuts that living in rural NJ is a more expensive lifestyle than living in the city, but between my husband and I we pay $700 a month on bus fare. That alone could pay for rent somewhere. Public transit is supposed to be AFFORDABLE. If you ride Academy, it's probably out of necessity, which is the only way they get away with offering such poor service. But if your living options are open, avoid living somewhere that will force you to commute on Academy. read more

I hate the fact that they do not operate more frequently. Today, I had an emergency and needed to be back in TR, NJ by 2:30 p.m. Unfortunately, I was out of luck. Since the first bus does not leave Wall Street until 2:20 p.m. My options were to either pay NJT $19 to get me home (which I was not happy about since I already give Academy $455 a month) or go to Port Authority. The problem with that is.....I parked at the Terminal so I would have either had to take a cab from Monmouth or Forked River. HOW INCONVENIENT!!!!! Update: It is the Wednesday before Thanksgiving (the busiest travel day of the year) leave it to Academy to reduce the number of buses instead of added early buses so that folks can get home. On the 1st Parkway Express bus out of the City they had to turn at least 20 people away, because the bus was full. Freaking get a clue. read more

The bus ride might be fine but I would hesitate to purchase a ticket online. BTW you can't buy a ticket over the phone; just in person. When you go to the purchase ticket page you will find that the page is not encrypted and your personal information is very easily compromised. Click on the little icon to the left of the web address. You will see a pop up window with 2 tabs. Click on the connections tab. You will see that the page is not encrypted. What does that mean? You are sharing your personal information with anyone that is in the business of stealing information. That's a problem! If I am wrong I do wish someone would enlighten me. Academy Bus, in the two plus years I have been commuting to wall street via route 9- today this company hit a new low. First, how do you keep a schedule if you blow by every stop? This asshole bus driver was 4 minutes early to the stop at Union Hill, I am running from my car, and he stops at the red light. "Phew, I made it!" I said to myself relieved. NOT! This asshole fucking refused to open the god damn door. Stopped at the red light leaving the park and ride, 4 minutes early- flat out refused. I waited the entirety of the red light pleading with the man to let me on, 45 seconds of begging and the asshole refuses with this smug look across his fucking face the whole time. Another thing, other passengers of academy- fuck you too. I get it.. you didn't get bent over and fucked in the ass TODAY by the bus company, but you have in the past and will again. I take the Academy bus from Old Bridge to Wall Street. I needed to purchase a monthly today but for some reason your only vendor is a shoe cobbler who closes early. I then took the subway up to PA and purchased a monthly but was then told I could not take the bus out of port authority even though I had just spent $325 and the price is the same. I was told I would have to buy another ticket. Since I am never giving your company another dime I took the subway back downtown and I am now holding on for dear life on a standing room only bus. So apparently you have no issue breaking the rules and putting my life at risk when it is financially beneficial to your company read more

Our bus broke down in the Bronx at 11:45 PM. It is now 2:22 AM and they have not sent another bus to get us, but instead they sent a mechanic, who took almost three hours to get here, and he is not doing anything to help the situation. I pay $425 a MONTH to take the bus daily from Monmouth Rest area to Manhattan, which is already a sin. What makes it worse, is that this bus provider is consistently terrible. From bus drivers who don't know their scheduled arrival times, buses that don't show at all, buses that get cancelled, and bus drivers who just plain can't drive, it's never a surprise when things go wrong, because it happens daily. For example, I'm currently waiting in line at Port Authority after a long week on a Friday, when all one really wants, is to get home as soon as possible. They cancelled my bus, without warning or notice. I have been waiting in line for an hour for the 7pm, and no surprise, it's late. Academy, please show respect to your customers, who pay you more than what a beautiful car and car payment would be, to get treated like scum. Stuck in the 1950s. They don't even have ticket vending machines, much less mobile purchasing app. Ticket "house" at 109 is only open a couple of hours a day. If you don't buy a ticket from a grumpy guy in there, you better have exact change for a driver. And forget about GPS app, where you can find out where your bus is. The other company has it, but not Academy. If your bus is running late, forget about finding out where it is - you cannot get through to them on the phone. And they cannot even spell (their timetable for years lists WEEKDAY'S and WEEKEND'S). Ever increasing fares and constant reduction in service is a whole other story. I will never ride Academy Bus again. I'm giving it two stars (instead of one), because maybe it's better on other routes and other days, but my experience was awful. I took Academy from Port Authority to Atlantic City on a Saturday, and back Sunday. Tip: DO NOT TAKE ACADEMY ON A SUNDAY. This was the worst. Details: Saturday, I bought a round trip Academy bus ticket, and I took the noon bus out to Showboat casino. It was on time and a pretty smooth ride, except most of the people on the bus were very loud and rowdy. I can handle this for 10 minutes, but 3 hours of screaming, ghetto language was painful. The bus driver didn't try to quiet anyone, which was disappointing. (I've been on Greyhound buses where the driver kindly and effectively asks everyone to be quiet.) Sunday was the real nightmare. I went to take the 3pm bus at Trump Taj Mahal. Got there 25min early, but there were already 70 people in line. At 2:55pm, a worker announced that only 46 people would fit on the bus, and that Academy would not be bringing a second bus. (By 3pm, there was at least 20 people were behind me, so Academy left 40+ people stranded.) The next Academy bus was at Resorts casino at 4pm. I walked directly there, got there at 3:15pm, and was 46th in line. Ugh. I stood there waiting for 45 minutes. When the bus came, 10 "friends" of those in line in front of me, suddenly jumped in the line. I tried telling a group of three that they needed to get in the back of the line, but one woman started yelling and threatened to fight me. Since I was now 56th in line, Academy turned me away again--Me and at least other 30 people who were behind me. People were cursing and yelling, "Academy sucks!" A worker told us that Greyhound was much better and had many more buses. After 2 hours of Academy stress, I took a cab to the Atlantic City bus terminal and took a Greyhound bus back to NYC. Greyhound was a quiet smooth ride. Next time, I'm using Greyhound. read more

Years ago I liked Academy but they must have been taken over by a zombie corporation. I bought an Atlantic City ticket for the 10am bus When I went to the gate there was a taped sign that noted the bus would be 1 hour late and leave at 11am. I went to get breakfast and went back to the gate and overheard the bus might not be there until 11:30 or later, Went to the window and requested a refund The clerk said I was told when I bought the ticket that the bus was late. I said 'No', when I saw the sign at the gate, I went back and the clerk who sold me the ticket checked with the dispatcher on the phone and confirmed the bus would be delayed She screamed at me Don't talk to me like your wife or mother. I'm mad that I even have to give this company one star. Every day durning the week this company shorts out on busses at the busiest time when trying to leave Port Authority in NYC. Two of the companies employees went on to tell me the reason for lack of busses and drivers is due to incompetent management who feel as though canceling busses instead of hiring more drivers better fits the customers needs. If you can find an alternate route from the city to your house, I suggest you do so. Academy is constantly never on time or cancels busses all together. WORST transportation company ever! My husband went out to Atlantic City and I called them in advance to ask them about purchasing one way tickets back to NYC. I called the (212) # on the bus schedule and he said that my husband can purchase tickets at the Taj Mahal at the kiosk machine by the bus terminal and then catch the 10PM bus at Ceasar's. My husband went to Taj Mahal to get the ticket and the kiosk machine didn't print tickets for Academy buses. The agent said the only way you can get tickets for the bus is at the bus depo that was open from 9AM - 6PM, and that's the only way he can get on the Academy buses. I kept calling Academy to ask if there is another kiosk machine that they were referring to and the Academy bus employees at the Port Authority were super rude, and said they don't know and were completely unwilling to help me. That I should call the bus depo there, except the bus depo was CLOSED already at the Taj Mahal. For one, you guys should give people the ability to purchase tickets online both ways. Additionally, your employees need to be better informed about how to purchase tickets - your website doesn't allow you to buy tickets FROM Atlantic City to NY. There isn't any information about how to get tickets when you get to Atlantic City. It doesn't specify anything about the ticketing agents/window or times that tickets can be purchased. Academy is actually the worst bus service ever!! They are stuck in the Stone Age since they refuse to send out emails, have an app or a notification system. If you're going to have a holiday schedule, how are you going to let your riders know? When they're standing late at night waiting for a bus that's not coming since they were not notified? In the morning they do not go by the schedule that is posted online. The buses won't come for 15 minutes, then finally after 20, two come at the same time? People pay $320+ for a service that doesn't get them to work on time and doesn't pick them up to go home on time. If there was another bus service that stopped in the Wall Street area, there is no way I would take this VERY poor bus service. Academy should really look into getting their shit together. read more

There was flooding on the Turnpike...act of God. when a bus arrived at 7:20 they decide to fill it with commuters going to Lincroft ,109 and said it was not going to Asbury Park. ok...another Bus that showed up late was suppose to be going to Asbury Park, they again filled it with commuters going to Lincroft ,109 and told me that I should have gotten on the 7:30 Bus to Asbury Park. I got to the Asbury Transportation Center at 10:35. They don't care. read more

On two occasions we traveled between stamford, CT and NYC with Lucky as our driver, best trips with Academy. Let's make him our permanent driver!! ...On a more recent trip with Academy, however, we had the unfortunate incident (different driver) where the air conditioning in bus 6562 worked in the morning, but then did NOT function during our return trip. It was an arduous trip back for a group of over 40 passengers. Please make sure the AC is working on this bus! This is a dangerous situation in warm weather! read more

Drivers for the most part are professional and drive well! Don't think the company does much to please customers. I pay $411 a month to commute and am tired of having to stop for local pick ups/drop offs or stopping for the occasional 1-2 Atlantic City passengers. Management: who is more valued?
