Hudson-Bergen Light Rail is a tram system around New Jersey - it carries on from the PATH, meaning you can get off at Exchange Place, Hoboken and Newport (probably more too) and continue your journey with here. Journeys again are a set price no matter how far along the line you go which for me is pretty stupid and unfair if you're only travelling one-stop but at $2.25, its still 50 cents cheaper than PATH / MTA travel in NYC. The trams didn't seem too nice or modern and I do feel they lacked room, I'd hate to experience one at rush hour! The routes also should have been clearer laid out as if it wasn't for a combination of CityMapper and asking a fellow passenger, I wouldn't have known which stand to wait on for a tram, let alone which one to get from that stand! Most stations are accessible which is a bonus as it serves one of the few ways to get between the stations, usually served by PATH with their long ongoing renovation which is temporarily using lifts, so it serves a more reliable and frequent service to replace the Shuttle and if you are affected you can use your MTA ticket for no extra charge (even though it does take longer and is more inconvenient) The UK - Manchester and London in particular and most of Europe (Amsterdam, Stockholm and co) really does trams so much better, by comparison this is a mediocre disappointment with the only extra star being as its an alternative to the dire PATH when travelling within NJ 2*

Jersey!! I'm in Jersey crossing two rivers in another state where it is less densely populated. Hudson-Bergen Light Rail transports me from the NJ PATH system to my destination at a moderate price for Zone 1 at $2.10 one way, which is far lesser than New York's MTA subways and buses. Self-serve ticket machines are fully functional and very instructive to follow with a separate machine to validate one way tickets with a date/time stamp. Service is prompt and trains are functioning. A three car train that enables my travels further to see Jersey in a new light. The screeching sound of Hudson-Bergen Light Rail's trains do not resonate an ear deafening noise as New York's MTA subways.

A bargain at $2.10 each way, the light rail runs just over 20 miles from start to finish with a total of 24 stations that are perhaps a little close together, but that's just me. The trains are surprisingly clean and comfortable, perhaps because food and drink are not permitted. And the next station announcements are amazingly clear and totally understandable. I caught a train this week from Pavonia (behind the Newport Center Mall near Newport PATH station) down to Liberty State Park. A good ride. You do need to purchase a ticket before boarding and validate it. And then hang on to it. I didn't see a ticket inspector, but I'm sure that they have them.

I like Light Rail, Because of its eco-friendly system. I like Light Rail, Because it's so quiet, no jerking along noisily. I like Light Rail, Especially its very clean seats and aisles!! I love Light Rail, Because always comes on time!!

This was not a social visit and most of my business was in Queens. However, I needed to get a vital record and for that I had to head into Manhattan. Having nothing else to do till I got the death certificate, I decided to make a dry run to figure out where the place was, how to get there, and make sure i could get back to court on time the next day. I was lucky in that I was not heading here during commute times so it went smoothly. It is right under city hall with easy access to the Brooklyn Bridge and other spots in that area. No bus came at 1:30 p.m. but a white bus arrived at 2 p.m. with no visible signage and the driver in no uniform but in casual clothing, and he was unsure if this was the bus he bought a ticket for. He approached the bus driver, and showed him the ticket, trying to inquire if this was the right bus, but the driver waved him off, closed the door and drove off. He had to ask other people outside about the bus, and they signaled to him that the bus that left was his bus. I was so disappointed by what had transpired, as it is not often easy for Deaf individuals to communicate with Hearing individuals, and he did my best in approaching the driver and finding signages to determine whether he was in the right place at the right time, and whether he should have boarded or not. He had taken an Uber to the bus stop and can prove that he was at the stop early in time for the trip. As a result of missing the trip and awful experience, he had to book a bus ticket with a different company to make it on time to New York. When reaching out to customer service, they were not helpful, being negligent to customer experience, and only refuted that the majority of the people (obviously without accessibility issues) were able to board the bus, and even then, we didn't see anyone else board the bus so maybe it was at a different stop. Would not recommend, and with the response being appalling, this business deserves to be shut down.

The Downtown Connection has been serving the community for over 20 years, and it remains NYC's only free circulator bus. It's a good resource for connecting Lower Manhattan and Battery Park City. The buses run daily from 10:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., each bus seats about 22 people, and they're easy to spot thanks to that bright red branding. There is, however, room for improvement. They claim to have an updated tracking system with real-time maps and apps for iPhone/Android, but in my experience, the tech doesn't always match reality. The biggest frustration? I've had drivers cruise right past me while I was standing at a designated stop. I'm not sure if they're just trying to stay on schedule, but it defeats the purpose of a commuter service. Bottom line: If you can actually catch one and the driver is willing to stop, you certainly get your money's worth. Just don't count on the GPS being 100% accurate.
