They also have three fun social events a month: a dance party, a non-dance activity (e.g. karaoke, indoor rock climbing, or go-karts), and Rueda in the Park (a group dance in Memorial Park). The Director, Ally, has created a warm, friendly atmosphere. I remember once, in my early days at the studio, going out the door after a group lesson when I heard her shout "no one leaves without a hug." I turned around, went back in, and got my hug. Dance Salsa Jax is a nonprofit that rents space at two studios. They teach the most common Latin dances, Salsa (Sunday afternoons in Avondale) and Bachata (Wednesday evenings on Old St. Augustine Rd.). Ally also offers reasonably-priced private lessons. In preparation for the year, I visited Grace's website and pulled down the first class start date and loaded them into my calendar. On day one, I arrive with my 4 year old and 18 month old and the door is locked. After being let in by a construction worker, I walk up to the desk and I'm met with the look of "what are you doing here?" I say "I'm here for the 2:45 class, it starts today." In a condescending tone "Are you not getting our emails?" Me, with a baby on my hip and a 4 year bouncing around ready to start dance, "I get a lot of emails." The lady's reply "well you need to read them! Classes don't start until next week." We leave. I log into the website and I'm not crazy, it says my daughter has class that day. I check my emails. I missed the one that says classes start August 12. That's on me. I reply to the email asking that they update their online portal to reflect the correct dates. I mention that the customer service I had just received was unkind and unnecessary. I receive a reply from the same lady at the desk saying she's sorry I felt I was treated poorly, email is their method of communication, and their website cannot be changed. I'm in a group chat with 10 successful, working moms. After discussing what happened with them, two other moms mentioned it happened to them too. One even shortened a vacation to be back for the wrong first day because the website is inaccurate. 30% of our group chat. Out of all of their customers, I'm certain we aren't the only 3. In one of the many emails I have received from Grace Conservatory they list their values: Kindness, Community, Humility, and Excellence.    Given I was not treated with kindness and humility, I don't expect my child will be treated with those values attending class there either. We pulled our daughter and enrolled her in another near by dance studio. The communication and interactions have been night and day difference. Being in the Nocatee Town Center should not give you a license to treat paying customers poorly. Websites can be fixed. Communication can be better. Separately, and more importantly, kindness is free. You simply do not have to be rude to anyone that walks through your door.

We moved an hour away from the studio this year, but I refuse to change studios because Hailey and Kyle get to know each child individually and know just how much to challenge my daughter and how to support her. She is very shy but has found a family in her class and teammates, and she truly trusts, not just Hailey and Kyle, but all of her instructors. Since joining their competition team last year, my daughter's skills have improved exponentially, and I can see her confidence has, as well. Hailey and Kyle are both unbelieveably talented, passionate dancers and extremely genuine, kind human beings. I am so proud that my daughter has the privilege of learning from them.

Our family has been involved with Danscompany for over 12 years and even though my children are grown, we all continue to be actively involved in Danscompany! My children learned so many priceless life skills from the teachers and the mission of this non profit organization. After 5 years at another dance studio, we had to face facts and make a change. Not an easy task…read morewhen you're looking for solid instruction that offers real progress (especially since the trust put in the last school was misplaced). Open house tonight was an eye opener. There's no question that moving to The Florida Ballet was the right decision. The attention to proper form, the patience, the barre work---all stellar! Explanations on what your body should be doing, the mechanics of correct position and posture was illuminating. The instructor was hands on, changing incorrect form as it was happening and giving concise and clear tips on how to fix whatever move they were learning/practicing. Instructor was friendly and very professional. Kind and patient with the girls but never relaxing the high standards she obviously expected. We are thrilled with what we witnessed tonight and are confident this studio can make up for the wasted year or two at the last one. Viva ballet!
