I have always dreamed about going to a golf school but with working 60+ hours a week, there was no time for golf so why bother? My husband and I recently retired so it was finally time. At the advice of a dear friend and phenomenal golfer, my husband and I attended different golf schools (apparently husbands like to coach alongside the pros and that's not always a good thing). My husband went to school first and I was shocked when time was devoted to selling and fitting golf clubs. Conveniently the school owner was a club distributor for top of the line clubs, of course! And he was selling follow up coaching after the school ended. I went into my school concerned that I was attending (and paying for) a similar situation - some instruction interspersed with hard selling. I couldn't have been more wrong! I was immersed into a positive learning environment lead by pros who LOVED the game and LOVED teaching. They told us that they would give us new club recommendations ONLY if we requested and they could not obtain the clubs for us as they were not in the club distribution business. How refreshing! I consider myself essentially a beginner. Day 1 was pretty intense with instruction on putting, chipping, pitching and full swing. And we were video-taped which isn't a big deal. The team changed my grip, my back swing, my follow-through - honestly, at the end of the day, I was overwhelmed. Day 2 was much better as I was able to practice what I learned from Day 1. The drills they have created are a blast plus you can be yourself at the school. Meaning that if you want to celebrate your "wins" with a high 5, you are encouraged to do it! No quiet whispers at this golf school. Here are some of the reasons I was very impressed: 1. About half of the 13 students that attended my class were return students. That tells me that this is a top-notch school. 2. The owners and their pro team are exceptional. They have endless patience, they authentically care about their student and their golf skills are amazing. In addition, they are inspiring teachers. They understand about different learning styles, they offer just the right amount of encouragement and support and they are terrific listeners. 3. The relationship with their students doesn't end at the last day of school. They invite students to reach out to them for advice after school at no additional charge! 4. I'm a 7-handicapper and I just finished my third 3-day golf school at the Academy and I'll certainly be signing up for a 4th trip and more thereafter. Kyle Jerome and Randy Dalton are as good as golf instructors get. They also have an extremely knowledgeable instruction staff supporting them who are very well trained and who are ALL on the same page for every student and what each individual student is working on improving. Randy, Kyle and the staff keep things simple with every phase of instruction which covers every single shot in the game from driving to chipping to putting. Too many instructors often try to feed you with a firehose of swing flaws, swing thoughts and corrective information. Not these guys. They key on only a few things at a time for you to correct and have an uncanny way of helping you "feel" what a correct swing, pitch or putt should feel like, ... building that needed "muscle memory" that will last. They practice what they preach. When you miss a shot right, left, fat or thin, these guys will immediately show you "WHY" you missed the shot and give you the tools for self correction. Their primary interest is seeing you leave the school on your way to playing better and shooting lower scores. After you've left the school and return home, you are armed not only with a better game and understanding thereof, you also have the tools and information to help yourself out of a rut when you get "stuck" or start swinging poorly again. Lastly, they use a state-of-the-art video system that allows you to see your swing flaws and successes to eliminate the bad and enhance the good. My wife is relatively new to golf and I have played since I was 5 years old. We both signed up and I was excited for my wife to get some what I thought would be group instruction. I was wrong on the group instruction. There were two instructors for three of us. I felt it was one on one most of the time. I worried about 2.5 days of hitting balls on the range. I was wrong once again. We went from activity to activity, working in the sand, near the green, off the tee, side of the green, fairway sand, side hill lies, down hill, up hill etc. and then out to the practice course. Always stressing "our own" basics. Things that will improve our game. I enjoy Garrett S's comment about refusing to separate his grip with his right finger pointing down the shaft. I have played a lot of golf and I was hesitant but over the years my wrists have gotten out of control. That short drill with the right index finger pointing down the shaft did the trick for me. I felt it, I felt the difference, that drill made all the difference to me for where I was and where I wanted to go with my swing. I am not permanently changing my grip but it was a great drill. My wife and I enjoyed our time spent at Academy of Golf Dynamics. I thought she would enjoy and get a lot out of it, I was right she did but quite frankly, I am the big winner. I got even more out of it, I feel like I am headed back to my old high school swing and distance, and I had a great time spending time with two golf professionals and most importantly quality time with my wife, encouraging her with her now found love of golf. I just finished a three-day school with the Academy of Golf Dynamics and was very pleased with the experience. The facility and the instructors are absolutely first rate. The setting, just outside Austin TX, is great. My family came along, and they had no problem finding fun things to do in the area. We stayed at the Lake Travis Spa and Resort, which has very nice pools and gym. Be prepared for some heat and strong sun, if in the summer. Going in I was concerned that three solid days of golf might be a bit too much, mentally and especially physically. I need not have had that worry; they have a very realistic approach to the pace, and at the end of the class I was looking forward to more golf, not less. That was easy, as students and family can play for free on the Academy's three practice holes or one of two nearby 18 hole courses. We did both. The class emphasized how to play smart golf, rather than swing mechanics. There was some use of video to show us our major swing problem(s) (too steep at the top and then an outside-to-in path) and some very useful, individualized instruction aimed at improving mechanics. Better swing mechanics will take some time, but I am optimistic that I know how to proceed. They send along your swing video and narration that will be a chilling reminder of what's needed. In the meantime, we learned techniques of the short game - long putting, sand shots, and 3/4 speed approach shots - that will help scoring right now. I've already used them. I could go on, but here's the bottom line: if you enjoy golf and especially enjoy improving your game, then you will undoubtedly enjoy the Academy. read more

This was the best Golf instruction that I have experienced, hands down. The instruction that I was able to receive in the 3 days would have taken weeks worth of hour lessons with my local pro. What makes it different is that you work on your entire game and they have the facility to help! There are three practice holes (Par 3,4, & 5) that are available during class and on your free time. We simulated shots from variable lies, distances, and course conditions both at the practice facility as well as the practice course. We had classroom time as well as hitting. I was given a few items to focus on (not overwhelming) that will have an impact on my swing and scoring. There were beginners in the class and they felt comfortable as well. Unlike other reviews, our teacher ratio was 3:1 and we had multiple instructors which allowed for the message to be presented in different manners. The split "baseball" grip that is mentioned was something that I experienced as well. This was just one of many drills that I was given to help with the feeling they were trying to convey...not a suggestion for future play. In any event, this drill along with the coaching allowed me to make the changes to achieve the improvement I was looking for in my swing. If game improvement in a short amount of time at a fantastic facility is your objective, this is the place to go. They have some condominiums available, I stayed locally but they looked very nice. There is also a full resort at the end of the property that has I nice patio grill overlooking a par 3 with good food and service. read more

Just completed a 3 day school after waiting 10 years (way too long!) to repeat. Kyle, Randy, Nick and Kyle haven't changed their approach to helping golfers perform better. 10 years ago, they diagnosed my swing after two strokes on their range, then adjusted my swing with immediate results. Their personalized instruction and strategies dropped my score by 10 strokes. This session was a long-overdue refresher. I leave no longer guessing what to fix after a bad shot, rather I know exactly what went wrong and how to fix it. Students get effective attention from each instructor. Similar feedback from different instructors helps reinforce what I need to improve. They keep instruction focused on 2 or 3 areas so you don't feel overwhelmed. Use these gentlemen most effectively by listening and trusting that they are far more knowledgable than 'we' are. There's a reason they are booked months in advance and have many repeat customers. We really had a good time at the academy, this was our 2nd time and we traveled from Chile to attend. As our first time, it was a great experience. For us the premium here are the instructors, they are very professionals. How they approach the students and put us on the fundamentals in a very easy way and the results that you experience on the practice shows that is possible to be a better player, enjoy and love this game. Simple drills, simple changes without overloading information help you to understand your weaknesses and improve naturally. Another important plus is the video explanations and the availability of keeping in contact with them if you forgot something or have no idea what are you doing wrong. We are different level players (hp14 and hp34), and we both enjoy our stay and now back home we need to do our job practicing and put in place what we learn, and the most important have fun improving golf. I attended another 3 day school about 5 years ago and I've had a load of private lessons over 40 years. Any respectable pro can get you hitting solid shots on the practice range. But these guys know more about a golf swing than anyone I've yet met. They teach you why shots are mishit, diagnose your particular problem, give you invaluable practice routines - and yet they build on your swing rather than trying to change everything at once. I've been twice, my most recent class had many returning students, one on his fourth time. Students improve every time they attend, regardless of handicap. Randy, Kyle and all instructors are world class -- they know golf and they know how to make YOU better. Knowledgeable, down-to-earth, attentive, excellent teachers, and they just happen to be great people. They say it is a 3:1 student-to-instructor ratio, but it actually feels like 1:1. A great program. I have been looking recently for a school to attend with hopes of lowering my 10 index. I had attended this one 20 plus years ago but thought I might want something at a fancy location with a big name teacher. But a friend had just attended this school and recommended it highly. If you want fancy, this is not for you. If you want effective, down to earth, competent instruction geared to every category of player with a great teacher/student ratio (ours was 2.5 students to one pro) this is for you. Kyle and Thor were great, and they are also excellent players with playing experience. They coordinate instruction so that you are not receiving different advice from different members of the staff. I have attended the Academy several times over the past 10 years, in that time Kyle, Randy, & all of the other great instructors have worked hard to make the Academy a place that can truly improve your golf game. From day one they are identifying what makes your swing work, prescribing subtle adjustments that make for a more consistent swing. More importantly though they provide you tools to self-diagnose and fix problems if they reemerge after you leave the school. Even making themselves available year round to personally address any questions that you send their way. To add to that, their instruction goes beyond the range. They take you out on their practice facility and show various course strategies to address problematic shot scenarios that will pop up during actual play. What a great way to start the golf season. Randy, Nick and the two Kyles are incredibly knowledgeable, helpful, and keep their instruction very simple. With feedback from 4 different instructors, you're guaranteed to get feedback that resonates and makes sense to you. I liked Kyle/Nicks advice on my drives, Kyle's around the greens and Randy in bunkers - and you don't get that variety of feedback and help with a normal lesson. The school handles different skill sets very well due to the constant personal feedback and tips. My Dad and I attended together: one of us typically shoots 85 and the other 105, but both came away w an equal amount of improvement. The online software is a great way to keep in touch going forward and continue to improve. It seems like that will make the $$$ investment go a long way. read more

These guys are the best! Why else would I have attended 7 times? The short game school was phenomenal and will hopefully become a regular part of the curriculum. All of the pros are extremely knowledgeable and have a knack for identifying that "teachable" moment. In just a few swings they can identify my problem and suggest a drill or fix that actually works for me. They continue to provide advice even after the lessons are over and quickly respond for my email requests for help. I can't wait to use the V One app and have them analyze my swing when it gets out of whack. A special "Thank you" to Thor for giving my golf novice sister a lesson during lunch one day. There is a reason why this school is so highly ranked. Going through swing changes is never easy. I struggled on the first day, but every instructor there was extremely positive. It made the process a ton more enjoyable. You can tell that they genuinely enjoy teaching the game of golf. The instructors provided simple drills to make swing improvements. The same drills you can practice at home. At the end of the Academy, all of the information given to you over the previous 3 days was emailed to continue the improvement. The facility has a driving range, putting greens, chipping areas, practice bunkers, 3 practice holes as well as 3 golf courses in the area. Wow. Simply the best instruction I have received by any gold instructors The methodology is simple and straight forward and is reinforced throughout the 3 day school. The instructors focus on one or 2 things to improve during the school. And if you follow and then practice what they tell you, the results are almost instantaneous . The class this week was small because of a cancellation, so the hands on instruction made it even more remarkable . They give you a video of your swing before you even leave with instructional voice over as well as drills that are spot on for improvement.. These instructors are real pros. This is their whole focus and you can tell by the way they talk to you and instruct that they have seen every level of student and know how to give you the right inputs. read more

I attended the Academy with my wife and another couple, not as a modified vacation, but seeking some serious help in our golf games. We all agreed that the experience surpassed our expectations. Our group ranged from single digit to mid to high handicaps and we all received instruction that was appropriate for our level. The instructors knew their stuff and, while friendly and approachable, they were extremely professional. They clearly had one goal and that was to make us better golfers. I have just recently returned from the Academy so I haven't had a chance to work the instruction into my game, but I can say that as an experienced golfer, I don't see how I can not help but improve if I commit to the instruction I was given. These guys are absolutely the best. My scores continue to decrease as I implement the practice drills. I have gone several years now and I plan to keep going as they continue provide new information, drills and overall improvement to my game. Instruction is individualized and a direct reflection of what I am doing and what I should be doing. What's so impressive is no matter which coach is watching you they all see the same thing and reinforce the instructions, i.e., there aren't seven opinions there is one instruction supported and reinforced by seven coaches. I've played golf for 20+ years and frankly, I thought my game was hopeless. I'm embarrassed to say I play about once per week and rarely shoot under 100. I've taken a few lessons here and there over the years without seeing any improvement. I signed up at Golf Dynamics in Austin pretty much as a last resort. Wow! The instruction was so personalized, basic and simple. Like throwing a switch. My ball was up in the air, I understood what was really wrong - and it wasn't hopeless after all.
