We came here to look at the exercising equipment. Academy offers a limited selection for treadmills, ellipticals and bikes and the prices range from $250-1000. I saw an elliptical that I liked and mentioned this to a worker named Andy who assisted us in getting this into our car along with another worker. I recommend getting the bike mat as well. One of their ellipticals, I tested out unfortunately wasn't assembled well. As evidenced by the noise it would make when you tried to move it and the stiffness of moving the handlebars towards you. They have a decent selection of dumbbells and kettlebells, including colorful coated dumbbells which I appreciate. I picked up some red dumbbells and the prices are comparable to Walmart. I'll definitely be back to pick up some more. The workers are a hit or miss in terms of good customer service, they appeared to be short staffed, service can be slow and the attitude of workers appears to be nonchalant. read more

Horrible experience, massive waste of my time, I will never shop here again. I was attempting to buy a bicycle for my wife and I so we can start biking with our young children. We wanted to buy from a local store as opposed to online, came to regret that! There was a teal Huffy cruiser that my wife really loved b/c it was her color and had a rail to put our 2yo in a seat. Got the bike home, inflated the tire to 40psi as called for on the side of the tire, and after 5 min rear tire explodes. So a problem with the product, right? Well, this was just the start of this horrible experience. Tried calling the store to bring the bike back and nobody answered ANY line for ANY department for at least an hour, and 5 attempts. So I called the corporate number. I was asked if I wanted a return and I said no, my wife really likes this bike, and I want it replaced. So the corporate lady was somewhat helpful and got the store on the line, nobody had that bike in stock anywhere, so she convinced me to take the bike back to the store and wait for their 3rd party maintenance guy to fix it. She said she relayed the message about not answering the phone and that the store will help. Her exact words were, "The store will take care of you and make sure you are happy." Nothing could be further from the truth! So I dropped the bike off and the manager took my info. They again tried to "refund and done" but I explained I wanted THIS bike. They said they'd call me back by the end of the week. Did not hear from them that week, so I called. They assured me it would be fixed, no idea why it hadn't been that week. So next week I again couldn't get anybody on the phone, and contacted corporate again. Keep in mind contacting corporate took over an hour each time. This lady told me she didn't know why it was fixed but she would call the store, and stay on them until the following Tuesday and she would monitor until they fixed it. Well, the store calls me WEDNESDAY 9/21 and says the bike is ready, so I'm like GREAT! We have been messing with this for nearly the whole month of September. The bike I ordered online from a different vendor was delivered 2.5 weeks prior, assembled by me, and my oldest son and I had been riding but my wife and youngest couldn't join because we are waiting on this issue to resolve. So Saturday 9/24 I pick the bike up, take it home and inflate the tire. I immediately notice the tire itself is still peeled outside the wheel well at the site of the explosion, and I hear air escaping rapidly. Looks to me like they didn't even touch the tire. GOOD THING I didn't put my wife and kid on top of that tire! At this point I'm totally disgusted, and regretting every moment of not shopping somewhere else. I return the bike, the same kid who wheeled it out had an "uh-oh" look on his face, and starts to give me a return. Don't really expect him to be all over the issue, but I did ask him to speak with the manager. After all, the store was supposed to "take care of me" right? So I patiently explain it to this manager and he replies, "well what to you want me to do about it" in a tone of "what will it take for you to go away". Not "let me help you with that, we're sorry this happened," etc, but total "meh I don't really care" approach (9/24, about 3:40 PM, Keller store on Tarrant Pkwy). I replied I want a refund and I won't be shopping with them any more, that this was a horrible experience that wasted a month of my time, and none of their promises to "take care of us" were met. So l said "I'll be leaving a review about this experience everywhere I can post". ---He shrugged and replied, "If that's what makes you feel better" --- I replied it didn't make me feel better, the whole situation made me feel disgusted, and other people need to know about this experience. He nodded absently, pushed the bike aside and walked off. The poor kid watching all this gave me my refund. So I'm an engineer and work with customer quality all the time, and the golden rule of customer service is YOU NEVER LET AN UPSET CUSTOMER WALK OUT THE DOOR! This seems totally lost on the company and the manager, so I'm not surprised they not only sell crappy products but don't seem motivated to fix their mistakes. I want this warning to serve for anybody who might think about rolling the dice and shopping here, especially for a bike. The google rating doesn't look bad to me (4.3 / 5 at the time of this review) but our story, presented above, should convey alot in my opinion. If something goes wrong with your purchase, good luck getting it resolved without having to devote a large amount of your personal time, and maybe not even then, as in our case. You would do better to shop at a place where the products are higher quality and you have some expectation of the company willing to help you if you have a problem. read more

Had a very good experience in this Academy Sports on Sunday. As usual I was at the gun counter checking out the offers. There was an online advertisement on the new Redfield line opticals. I would like to say one of the managers took extra time and making sure I got the product that I was looking for and made sure it fit the actual item I was trying to fit it to. Always a great experience at this Academy Sports store. Way better than Dick's (named appropriately for how I am treated at the Alliance location). Anyway, super friendly and helpful staff. Almost always have what we need for the kiddos sports needs as well as our shooting needs (guns and ammo also sold here). In any case, they have much more for hunting, fishing, camping, etc. give them a try if you are in the area! read more

Mom and I came by to do some Christmas shopping in the evening. Luckily the lines weren't too bad, but still there was a little bit of a wait. They were quick to open another line when they saw it getting busy. The only reason for the 3 stars vs more is because they have such a limited selection of hiking products and like other Academy's, it's a little messy and our dates. Getting ready to try jogging. Needed some inexpensive shirts and shorts (in case I don't like it). Looked on-line and saw some deals. The price point on the BCG brand was particularly appealing (about $15). So off I go. I was not familiar with this BCG brand, but they have shirts too ($10), so I bought some. There are BCG socks too, but I did not like them. Bought Adidas. Did not have the shoes I have, Saucony, but there are some attractive deals on other brands, many on special. Horrible. Employees are plentiful, but don't want to help you. They're all on their phones. Not to mention, they aren't abiding by the state law for face coverings. Went out a bit today after being home for so long due to the pandemic and people were everywhere without their masks up over nose and mouth, or wearing them under their chins, or just not wearing a mask at all. I approached an employee after an unmasked gentleman was seen coughing without covering. I asked if Academy was enforcing the mask mandate. He told me that no, "if you're not wearing one, we aren't going to ask you to wear one." I asked if he knew if they could be fined. He said, "No. Had no idea." This really shows a lack of leadership at this location. I also saw a lady come in with LACE fabric over her face. Holes and all. Like, really? I called to speak to a manager. Kaylie has me on hold for ten minutes. I get a guy named Vince. I asked if he was the manager and he said no. I again asked for the manager. Finally, Reggie got on the phone and I told him about my experience and the whole time he was talking over me and and obviously trying to get me off the phone ASAP. A friend of mine was fired from there because a customer's car was severely dinged in the parking lot and she asked to see surveillance to assist in catching the person that dinged her car. This was under the guise of compromising "intellectual property", supposedly. I can't understand why helping the customer is the WRONG thing to do - how else is she supposed to have the possibility of filing a police report? As I understand it, the manager on duty also gave my friend the green light to help this woman. Should the accountability not lie with the manager on duty? This doesn't seem like very good customer service nor would it encourage me to visit your store. This Academy Sports location is one of the more toughest places for me to shop in. I completely understand that there are times that the store doesn't have what I require in stock. I get that. What I don't get is the unwillingness of employees to not assist you in finding whether that item is available online, at another store, or in back stock inventory. While this location is like every Academy Sports location that you'll experience outside of Fort Worth, I find this particular store lacking in basic customer 101 assertiveness. If I ask you of a shoe product within the shoe department and you flat out say "we don't have it", don't walk away when I discover it 10 minutes later buried underneath a pile of product rubble. If you tell me that you don't have a camping product without looking for it or suggesting an online sale yet I find it easily within another store such as Dick's, don't be sad if a manager misses their revenue bonus at the end of the month or quarter. I find that there are more employees standing around counting the minute on the clock to their next break or gabbing with other employees than assisting customers either through suggestive selling or being assertive in showing customers where a product may be, or if it can be ordered. The store selection is actually pretty good, which is much expected. Yet given the sheer size of this location and choices of product, you would hope that the employees would at least be somewhat involved in taking my money when I show an interest within their product. This store has me scratching my head every time I show up and leave empty-handed. read more

Couldn't find what I needed so I went to "customer service" the girl behind the counter told me she THINKS what is out is all they have in the store. I replied if she could check and she told me they are remodeling...........as the frustration set in that she wasn't even competent enough to answer my question. I just wanted them to check or maybe ask like you checked. Instead I asked where the next nearest academy was. She told me and I asked if she could call and see if they had what I needed. I went to academy to buy 2X underwear in the womens clothing section. They do not carry anything larger than a XL in woman's but carry larger sizes in Men's as big as 4XXXX I was told that I could buy underwear in the men's section for my daughter from a lady that worked there. Or as per the manager, I could "Special Order them." Really. This is how I would sum up my shopping experience. If you are a size larger than XL in women's don't shop here but if your a man, we have your sizes. What is up with that? Today was the Grand Opening for this location. It was a friggin' nightmare to get to it - 377 always blows, and Saturdays increase its likelihood of ruining a perfectly good mood. It took 15 minutes to finally get there, no thanks to the fine railroad folks who decided to work on the tracks today, too. All that aside, you chould just about get an entire free outfit from them today... and a full tummy of food to boot! Considering the place was blown out, all of the employees were friendly, helpful, and quick to hand out the goods! One woman gave me some free socks for trying on some New Balance shoes - it took me a few minutes to realize they were free - I thought she was trying to push them. Prices at Academy are awesome. This is a review of Academy's online store and not this physical location. I felt like complaining since no one else would listen. Simple enough, I had a $250 gift card I wanted to use and ordered several garments online. Received order and one of the garments still had a security tag on it. Called the online customer service and she started walking me through how I could drive to a store and get it removed. I asked if there was a way that did not involve me having to drive for their mistake and she mentioned I could print a call tag, return it and then they would replace. It sounds so frustrating I almost want to return everything, except I have the gift card and can't take my business elsewhere. Think I will stew for a couple weeks until I need to go near the location and have it removed. Thank goodness the Internet is able to bring bad service to the comfort of our living rooms, 24 x 7. read more

Typically do most of my outdoor shopping at academy, but the lack of service today was pretty upsetting. Went in to purchase a firearm, but in 15 minutes was never greeted or even looked at. I get that 15 minutes isn't too long to wait, but you'd think with three gun counter reps and only three total customers it would be quite easy to have a one to one ratio, but you'd be wrong. Would have been fine to wait if I received even a glance from any of the reps. Will be looking to branch out from now on. read more

I honestly don't know why I keep coming back here. The first time I went in to trade sizes in on a pair of shorts I ordered online. And online said it was unsure if this store had the shorts so why not check. Come to find out this store only sells Columbia brand for men only. Sorry ladies, you're out of luck. Second time went to get new running shoes and they had red tag sales on all the shoes. Went to go. Check out and they were $10 more than what it showed.
