Gym is included, but the machines are extremely limited and half of them are broken. Pool and hot tub is included, but the hot tub is ALWAYS broken. Movie theatre included, but it takes 2 hours to set up because its so outdated. Storage closet on the porch is included, but we weren't allowed to open it and it stayed locked the entire year! Apartment was given to us in very bad condition, oven drawer broken, ice machine broken, furniture broken, ceilings brown and the entire thing smelled like smoke for months from previous tenants. However when I moved out they charged me $150 for tiny cracks in the sink that were there when I moved in. But I can't appeal that because you have to write down everything that is broken when you move in, but if i was writing down every small thing like that it wouldn't even fit on the page so how was I supposed to know what was important? The washer and dryer are very outdated and stay broken even after several attempts at service repairs. Rated 2 stars because the service repairs (when they actually work) are done in a very timely manner and it is a quiet location near campus and is very walkable!

I stayed here for two years in a row and let's just say this past year (24-25) was probably way worse than previous ones. Let's just start with them charging outrageous prices to "transfer units" when you're the one doing all the work.... Right that makes sense (aka a money grab). On top of that, maintenance was poor last year but responded in better time this whole year which was more reasonable. But one account I could tell you about with maintenance was when our smoke detectors were going off for over 30 mins and no one was in a rush to even help us. Then told us days later they were dated and needed replacements. Nice! Although they are very kind, they don't respond as quickly when it's a "emergency". Also my keys did not work for the first month in BOTH of my units and I was the only one with this issue. They made me return my key to fix it and then never called me back when it was done (like they said) so I had to keep calling until they reprogrammed it once. I had to sit in front of my front door for almost an hour waiting on someone to come use a master key because it didn't work. It doesn't even take 24 hrs to reprogram the key but it was always last on their agenda. Again, putting myself and roommates at risk for leaving the door unlocked. Now let's begin with what my roommates and I walked into this past summer. We received our keys after having to fight with them because they tell you one thing and then go back on their word (they WILL do this multiple times, so communication through email is ideal to have proof). Walking in we immediately noticed black mold in my shower, dust everywhere, cat fur imbedded in my roommates room, food splattered in our microwave and a sticky fridge. That's just the beginning. It was absolutely disgusting, even our glass sliding door look like it had been shot. It may have been something else but shattered glass on our porch is dangerous. Even though you agree to move in without it being shampooed it should've at least been inspected. Absolutely ridiculous for the amount we were paying to move in. The only way we could've had it "cleaned" was if we moved everything back out and wait a week... After all of this we just gave up. Now is to renewing a lease with them... in previous years they will offer deals, deadlines, multiple emails, calls and endless amounts of reminders. But this year they were far from marketing to keep their residents. Now I've heard from multiple people including people in my units they only got like 2 emails and when we went to renew our lease we were told that they gave away our space, with no last warning, one last opportunity to keep giving them money. Honestly a loss for them. I put up with an outrageous amount of stuff and would've continued to stay their because of the price and location but that's about the only thing good about this complex. They market themselves to be a HOME but it's very far from it. To noisy neighbors, parties, terrible guest parking, and gross living areas it's not really all that GRAND. It's truly the worst I've seen and I've been to multiple other complexes in Starkville. My final thing I will say is management is just subpar, they don't really care enough about their residents to be understanding or work with them. I hope this place really does fix what people have said about them because it's outrageous... been in business for years and had multiple managements and it's still awful years later. I hope that the new residents this year do not have to endure what my roommates and I did for 2 years in a row. Thank goodness my time here is done.

They are charging a non sufficient funds fee and telling me that my bank is charging them. That is their level of knowledge. They should know that it is their bank or the software trying to put money into our accounts even for no fault of ours. I had a direct deposit for almost 2 years and when I am tryng to move out they are doing all kinds of software glitches and trying to charge me as much as possible thinking that I cannot do anything. These guys are nasty and the people who work here change every couple of months and they just hire any person of the street to fill the seat and these people think they own the apartment complex. Be careful with them. I would rather rent somewhere else unless every where is as nasty as them and you are helpless.

The apartment looks amazing, and everything in here is either new or looks new. They were…read moreunquestionably the best place about the move-out process: not only did they honor the few things we noted on the move-in inspection, they even allowed us to move out without repainting since they were going to give it a fresh coat anyway. They were also efficient about sending the security deposit back. It made the moving process totally stress-free. One thing I should mention is that there were some staff changes before we left. Amy moved out of state, and Pam moved over to managing the Crossgates. It's not like it made a huge change, but things just weren't quite as smoothly run as they used to be. Overall though, we had a really good experience living at the Avalon, so I wouldn't let the change in management deter you.

Our fridge didn't work when we moved in so they replaced it with a brand new one. There is an exterminator that comes regularly so the bugs are at a minimum. We did not have a washer/dryer in our unit, but there is a nice laundry room in the complex and a commercial laundromat just across the street. Just a five minute drive from Main Street, it's not too far from all the action but it is far enough away that it is nice and quiet. Very family friendly, no noisy parties or busy traffic and there is a park just down the street. The grounds are well kept and look great. DO NOT let the super low price scare you away, these are great apartments and we'd live here again if we had it to do over. We signed our contract without having seen the apartments and were very nervous. Our plan was to just stay here until we could find something better, but we loved it so much we spent our entire stay in Starkville here in this complex.
