The place was all sorts of dirty. The waiters NEVER checked on us. They were sitting back in the back talking and goofing off. I was charged a $2 up charge for a cheese quesadilla. The food was mediocre at most. The random guests were more nice than the servers. I would pick Taco Bell over this place any day. I'm amazed at the quality of food here. First off our table of 20 was put together in the 5 minutes it took us to drive there with chips and salsa already on the table. How nice!! The salsa was very fresh and there were two types: medium and spicy. The spicy was actually spicy! (I can barely tell when the normal person says something is spicy). It was enough burn to require water in hand but just slight enough to keep you going for more. The fresh guacamole was perfect!! The flavor was perfectly salty and limey and the fresh onion and tomatoes made it even better! Some places just don't flavor it right. You can tell these people are truly mexican! I ordered the steak and shrimp dish. I'm still dreaming about that shrimp. It was grilled to a crispy perfection and nice and juicy and big! The steak was thin and cut up into squares. My plate almost looked like a curved skewer of steak, onion, peppers, shrimp just without the skewer. I wish I didn't eat so many chips bc I wanted to finish my meal but couldn't! Everyone commented on how good it looked and they were right, it was excellent! I got the lime margarita on ice. The glass was huge as were the large beers that were ordered on the table. The small was half the size of the large! The server was hilarious and teased the guys who got the "baby beers". It was a fun time, with great food. Acambaro is a hard restaurant to give a review for, because the consistency is wildly different every time we visit. One time we will go for happy hour, sit at the bar and have great service, hot food and great drinks, the next time- we will wait for 10 -15 min after being seated for someone to even acknowledge we are there, (while they're not busy at all) and then receive cold food to top it off. I can say the service is consistently good, the staff are friendly and helpful. If you order a dish like fajitas you will most likely get them while they're warm, other dishes like enchiladas and chimichangas are just a gamble. When they're on their game it's great, when they're off they are really off. read more

Being from Texas we are picky about our Mexican food. Have had several dishes, tamales, beef and cheese enchiladas, crispy and street tacos. All good. Plus you have choice of hot and mild salsa. I've only had the mild, great flavor. Margaritas are hand made very tasty. read more

As frequent visitors to Monett, the dearth of decent restaurants here is glaringly apparent. As a town of nearly 9,000 you'd think it could support a few respectable establishments... but it doesn't. Acambaro is the one exception and Monett's shining star. I can't pronounce its name but we've eaten there half a dozen times and they always come through. Our group of four dined at Acambaro last night and had a great experience. We were seated promptly and had chips and salsa on the table within minutes. Our server suggested a pitcher of margaritas--a free nacho appetizer came with it--a no-brainer. Food was all good and our server checked on us regularly. Our bill came to just over 50 bucks including drinks and before tip--very reasonable. Acambaro had a pretty good crowd on a Wednesday night so they don't seem to be struggling like some of the others in Monett. Keep it up! read more

Always heard good things about this restaurant, but it was terrible. Fajita meat was cut into huge chunks and vegies were barely cooked. Beans were runny. Pico was old and the lettuce was browning. Child's soft taco was flavorless. Queso dip was chunky and lukewarm. Service was subpar did not receive any refills, even had to request silverware after food was served. read more

The meals are always fresh, with top notch ingredients, prepared well and served fresh and piping hot. If you enjoy a mixed drink, you won't find a better bartender than Vincente. He mixes the best Pina Coladas from here to south of both borders. He will also gladly make suggestions or try a new recipe that is never less than tasty. I just moved to Missouri and love Mexican food. I find that Acambaro never falls short of pleasing me. I have tried numerous Mexican restaurants around the area and couldn't find the one that feels and tastes authentic until I stumbled across this one (I'm Mexican and find this as a recurring conflict when moving to new areas). They bring out complimentary chips and salsa and offer two different salsas (spicy or mild) which I find very convenient for my friends that can't handle the heat. The margaritas are worth the price ($6.00 I think) for the size and they are superbly mixed. My favorite dish I recommend is the enchiladas bandera although, all the other dishes look delicious. Last but not least, the restaurant is clean, the staff is polite, and the atmosphere is inviting. I highly encourage you to head on over there and eat for yourself. Not good at all, even after a long day hiking. The chicken fajitas were dry and overcooked. The carne asada was chewy and overcooked. However, the cheese enchiladas were UNDER cooked, forming a solid log of cheese inside the tortilla. Generally, I thought it was difficult to mess up American styled Mexican food. Most Mexican places around S.W. Missouri don't really cater to Americans, but Acambaro seems to be the exception. The staff is mostly friendly. I love the enchiladas--they all are good--chicken, cheese or spinach. The only thing I've had there I didn't like was the chile rellenos--to my taste the chiles were bitter. read more
