My favorite at Steak Inn is the whole catfish and last night was no exception. The catfish was cooked to perfection and was complemented with a great baked potato. It is a bit of a drive to Shell Knob, but Steak Inn always makes it a worthwhile experience. The service was good, but anyone who goes to Steak Inn often knows that they are busy. I love the views from the restaurant, and as I get older I enjoy them even more. read more

This cozy little place always gets 5....that's right...5 stars (from me)! So many places around the lake; we'll; stink! But (not) The Steak Inn. The steaks have a loss of smoke, that taste wonderful. And that little crazy salad bar...gosh so I like it. Homemade dressings and croutons. And an onion salad....has celery seed to set it off...I just love the cold salad dishes. My only knock on the place: They need to have real bacon bits on the salad bar - (not) those Baco Bacon but crapper things. But other than that..... They don't have prices on the menu saying that it's due to the prices changing so often but with what they charge for some of their steaks could easily afford to print out paper menus with the price each day, they just like people paying the higher prices because they can't see the difference between some of their different steaks. Not sure if it's because we are not regulars but the waitress seemed to want to check in a little as possible. I also would have expected a lake view with how they played up being on the lake. I am giving three stars because I feel like changes are needed. This place rarely disappoints. I was a little unhappy to see the prices on the menu disappeared. I believe that's a hardship on the wait staff if you have to ask them the price of dinners. My right to know the price before ordering helps me decide on my order. The rib eye steak was $43.95 for a 12oz. Too me that's a little pricey to learn after you ordered your meal. The KC strip was $34.95. We also ate the Walleye fish. It was very good but different. I thought it would be battered in cornmeal, not flour or cornstarch. It was a tiny bit tough on the outside but still good. I also disagree with getting your condiments at the salad bar for the bake potato. When the line is long your potato is now cold, along with your dinner. I don't want to go wait in line to get the fixins' for a bake potato when my meal is on the table getting cold and there's 10 people in line at the salad bar. $43.00 is a lot of money to pay to eat a steak that's barely warm after waiting through the salad line. I remember them bringing a baked potato tray to the table before and setting it down, then they come and pick it up. The Crusties on the salad bar are delicious, however, they are gone too quickly. Tuesday is a very busy night. I love it that this is a small town steak house and go there every year. I think a few things could be improved. My advice to the manager, bring back the potato carousel that lets you stay seated with your party and keeps your dinner with you at the table. The bread was equally delicious. Remember, I am the guy paying the bill. When the (payer, IE Me) has a less than positive experience, I'm wanting to do something different. What I remember most is that my dinner was getting cold when stuff I wanted should have been on my plate or brought to my table with my dinner. We have come here several times when we are in the area over the years. We were disappointed with our meals this time. My shrimp was breaded frozen, could have had better from the grocery store. The restaurant is stunning. However, I ordered the stuffed shrimp. The menu said with cream cheese and crab. It came deep fried with pink (supposedly crab) cream cheese. It was mushy. I returned it, ordered grilled shrimp which was great. But when the bill came they charged us for both! Maybe I'm old but seriously? The filet was Medium not MR, but had good flavor! The sirloin was Medium to Medium Well and was okay. I asked for ketchup for the fries but never got it. We finished without her checking on us. There are no prices on the menu so we expected to pay $60-$75, but our bill was $89 + tip. We will not go back. Once we were seated, old menus had prices covered with with ugly black stickers (many torn) so you no idea the price of anything at all. We decided what to order and then told they didn't have that. Asked about market price of the lobster (over $100 ) Seriously... we could eat at Level 2 in Branson and get fine dining service for less than that. But regardless, we settled on something to eat after providing our waitress with a pen...she was clearly not happy to be there, possibly overwhelmed or overworked. Salad bar was fine... not as many items as before but it was fresh and tasty. And our food was fine. Nothing fabulous but it was good. I was reminded yesterday why my family and I no longer frequent this establishment. The hostess/ owner is notoriously rude, unorganized and unprofessional. I felt like a character in Willy Wonka waiting in line hoping to win a "golden ticket" even though we showed up 45 minutes before they opened to make certain we would get a table. We've had great steaks all over the country, like Del Frisco's in NYC, R2L in Philly, Metropolitan Grill and Salty's on Alki, etc. etc. Is the ambiance like Del Frisco's? Um...no....but wait......the steaks, oh my! Last 3 or 4 times we've been there I've ordered a KC Strip and they have been some of the best anywhere at any price. Love the fries and salad bar. Showed up early to try and miss the rush. When we showed up we automatically felt unwelcome by the hostess. When asked how many was in our group and when we told her 7 she asked if we had reservations. When we stated we did not she said that they were not going to be able to accommodate us. No where I have looked has said reservations are required or necessary. One of the employees was adding items, but just couldn't keep up. The large block of cheese was the hold up, I guess no one had ever sliced cheese off a block.
