I honestly don't know why there are some bad reviews here because, in my experience, the people at Acapulco Driving School are really here to help you out. I had Mario as my instructor, and he was great! He taught me how to drive, helped me feel more confident behind the wheel, and prepared me very well for the road test. Thanks to his patience and guidance, I was able to pass my driving test! I also want to thank the entire staff for being so friendly and helpful throughout the whole process. Look up the requirements for getting your license before you sign up. My sister-in-law needed to get her license as quickly as possible. We asked them how quickly can she get her license and the lady told us that it depends on the student. My sister went the next day, studied the exam and passed their practice exam. My sister-in-law felt that she can pass the exam so she asked if she can go take the test. The lady said come back tomorrow morning and we can schedule you. My sister-in-law decided to go that afternoon and just take the test herself, she took it and passed it. She called the next day to see how quickly they can schedule her driving hours. They said they did not have availability until a month from now. My sister-in-law decided to just go take the driving test the next day and she passed. I feel like the school just wanted business, didn't vet the students experience but not provided valuable information on what was really required. The driving hours requirements are only for 21 years and under. It's only worth it if you never drove or you never seen the driving book. Save your $500 if your family can teach you. You will not get your money back if you decide to not go with their ridiculous schedule.. read more

I have always been a people pleaser as a youngin however, now that I am older I can safely say that my 15 year old self should NOT have had the experience that I did. The instructor was an older male who taught me the basics on the road. At first all seemed normal and I did learn. As lessons went on, he got comfortable enough to grab onto my right leg and tell me that I did a good job and was a "clean girl" in Spanish meaning a good clean slate girl for my age. I dislike giving negative reviews however, I feel this instance deserves to be known for better and professional work relationship between the instructor and students. I understand some Spanish cultures are different and it may be normalized to touch as as a good gesture but professionally, it is not acceptable now that I look back. I would genuinely like to see a professional standard to be upheld for this place because frankly, it is the only driving school in the Cicero area and Ciceronians deserve that standard. read more

One star. When I first went to sign up the lady at the front never mentioned how long I actually had to wait for the actual driving classes. I got my permit in 2 weeks & had to wait over 2 months to get my classes in. Seems like something that should've been mentioned when signing up. When I started the driving classes everything was going well, the instructor wasn't bad. However, everything changed on my 3rd class. The bad reviews are there for a reason, like one of them said, he does ridicule you when you make a mistake. He makes you feel dumb about messing up. And he gives attitude as well. I tried explaining to him how he was making me feel and he made me feel worse about it. It was obvious he loses his patience. I lost confidence in my driving because of him. Also, since the first class he would poke my thighs here & there, nothing too extreme but very unprofessional and I felt uncomfortable. Like others say, he does spend majority of his time on the phone. He's also the only instructor there too. In addition to that, they called me a couple of times to switch the time I was suppose to go in, but when I asked to switch the day all of the sudden they didn't want too. They want what benefits them & not the student. You can find a better place for a better price. Don't go there. read more

This place gets NO STARS!!!! I paid for driving lessons for my nephew with Acapulco Driving School thinking that he was going to learn how to drive...INSTEAD the instructor spent most of his time on his cell phone chatting it up with family and friends!!! When it was brought to his attention he proceeded to argue and make my nephew feel bad about mentioning it to him. It's bad enough that this kid was already nervous about driving now this "instructor" has to make things worse. I am disgusted with this whole driving school. I still successfully got my license on the first try and I believe the instructor (Luis Mario) prepared me for the driving test. However, the instructor is very unprofessional and was often cursing on the phone in spanish while we were driving around. He is also homophobic and has an old-school macho puerto rican attitude (he made it a point to say what he was-- even beating his chest like a gorilla "Yo so Boricua!") Yeah whatever I don't care what you are just teach me. He has an accent so it can be difficult to understand if you don't speak spanish. The driving school itself I don't think is very flexible in hours- seeing they only have one instructor. They will reschedule your times if you call ahead though. The price was reasonable at $300 for 3 lessons of 6hrs behind the wheel. They also expect you to pay upfront and there is no refunds so be sure they can accommodate your hours BEFORE handing them the money! read more

This place is absolutely great, with only taking two classes Luis Mario fully prepared me to take the drivers test the next day. Every one there was very nice, and I only paid $300. As to the previous review, Luis Mario is a great guy, every time we were on the road he gave me (and I'm sure others too) such high confidence, believing in us and knowing we'd pass the test. As for the "difficulty understanding his accent" me also being Spanish, had no problem understanding him as he would switch from English to Spanish constantly and one of my classmates who is white, and knows no spanish at all, that took the test the same day as me and passed with flying colors. In my eyes if you really want to stop being chauffeured by your parents/guardian and start driving by yourself, suck up any pessimism you have and get your license here. read more

This place is a nightmare! My husband decided to go here to get his license...Big mistake. I agree with a previous reviewer, the lady who works in the office is rude. On the first day of his lesson his instructor took him on the expressway....in the pouring rain! You don't do that to someone who is already apprehensive about driving. Then the instructor was on his phone the majority of the time. My husband finally asked him to hang up & teach him. Yes, I could have taken him out myself but I felt that a driving school would have been more professional, more helpful. Sadly this was wasted money. I really like the school. I had a permit about 10 years ago which helped a lot. The 1st day I took a pre test for the permit at the school. It was the same one at the DMV. I didn't need help in that area but I know they have books and other learning guides if you need help with that. They did take me to the DMV to get my permit and back. I would recommend avoiding going in the summer because there is many high school kids trying to get their license too. Scheduling gets book quick but overall they were pretty flexible. The 1st day on the road I was a bit nervous but the instructor Mario help calm down. If he isn't saying anything that means you are doing really great. But if you are not doing well in something he will tell you. I was doing horrible on my right hand turns but I listen and now I am good at it. The last day he takes you on the same route the DMV does, which made me feel great and confident. I would recommend this place, but if you have any concerns let it be known. Mario has a lot of patience and he is great on what he does. I was impressed with they help even older people get their license. read more

I'm very ecstatic I obtained my driver's license with the help of Acapulco Driving School. I will definitely recommend this school to anyone who needs to learn how to drive and obtain their permit or license. I'm very pleased I register at this driving school. If I can give Acapulco Driving School more than 5 stars I definitely would. I was very impress with the whole process. When I first came to register Lizandra was very professional, polite, kind and on point on explaining the step by step on obtaining my license. I was never mislead with the information provided to me. I totally felt welcomed. Once I started taking my driving lessons the instructor Luis Mario he makes you feel comfortable. He is an outstanding professional on instructing you the rules of the road and how to be a safe driver. He is very patient if you don't understand what is being instructed he will do his best on explaining it again so you can fully understand. He gave me a lot of confidence on maneuvering and taking control of the wheel. One of the many things I like about this driving school is that Luis Mario teaches you how to drive on the expressway. It is not mandatory for the driving test but is something one can learn for our own benefit. He also reassures we will be driving safe before taking us for a driving test. Acapulco Driving School not only helps you throughout the whole process of obtaining your license but they also help those people who are not competent on reading and writing to pass their written test efficiently. If zero were an option that is what I would choose. One, only one instructor. Yes he tries to make you comfortable but I found him to be very unprofessional. Radio on, eats and basically was on his phone and having conversations the entire time on my first trip out. Had me run errands for him too, had me pull over so he can meet up a relative to hand them something. What kind of an instructor does that? How is that suppose to make me or anyone else feel comfortable. Not professional in my eyes. On my second trip out he didn't make me feel secure and I felt like I was being ridiculed when I made a mistake. I knew at that point I was done. I have one more class but I am opting out and going somewhere else. I know, we will not get our money back but at this point I am okay with it. How am I suppose to learn from someone who can't even offer tips or techniques to help me grasp driving better. His wife, in the office, i have no ill feelings towards but she just comes off as sort of, why am I here attitude, like she is bored. I asked her if there were other instructors and she told me there was but they never come back. Surprise, surprise. She and her husband basically teach the driver's ed classes there which is mind blowing to me. I chose this school for convenience to where I live. But sadly I wish I never had my parents help pay for the classes here. Complete waste. read more

I would give this place zero stars if I could. The girl that answers the phone has a chip on her shoulder, she's very rude and has no type of customer service skills. She did not care to accommodate us in any fashion. My teenager unfortunately went there for his 6 hrs of behind the wheel. First off, we paid more like $365. Second, My son only needed 3 classes but for some reason the school spread it out and he ended up doing the 3 classes (6 hrs) in a month and a half because the school only has one instructor and it doesn't seem like they're willing to stay open longer or open earlier to accommodate everyone's hours. Third, my husband and son stopped by during business hours to drop off paperwork but no one came to the door. Lights were on but the door was locked!! I called this place multiple times to find out why it was taking so long for my son to finally take his last class and test... After about 7-8 calls again during regular "business hours" I left a message. The rude chick calls me back with an attitude. We finally schedule his last class. The day of his test the school cancels last after my son had already taken off school to accommodate the schools hours!!! The school was claiming we didn't turn in some paperwork and therefore could not take him to the DMV that day, we would have to reschedule! I called bullshit on the whole thing, left work and took my son myself to the dmv to take his test. We were there for a total of 40 min. My son walked out of there with his license. This school is a nightmare, I regret spending the money there. They are liars, lazy and rude. read more
